How much have you stashed?

MasterFlea · 13/08/2013 15:04

My stashes are getting very big. I'm trying to use up some of it but still feel the URGE to add to the woolly stash.

I've currently got two big plastic boxes full of fabric and an archive box bursting with yarn.

What is yours like? Do you see it as a problem or love it?

Oh, I have that bag on my project list too. It's beautiful.

Soup when you say huge, do you mean you could fit a few books in it? That might be where my stylecraft order is going.

I bought a new plastic box yesterday for my stash.

Since this thread, I've come to the conclusion that winter is very long so it's important to be stocked up and it makes me happy so why not.

I used up some oddments last week and made a basket which the dds have adopted.

I've not made it but if you look at some of the pictures on this Ravelry thread, they look big and are often referred to as being huge.

Thanks for the link Soup. Love the idea of lining the bag with pockets.

Good tip Polter. Sturdy is good.

I've started one and got to about the 10th round and it's not looking that big so far. Mine's in Stylecraft Special DK. I think one of the good things about it is that it can be as big or wee as you like.

I do find it difficult to judge what the stripes will look like until I start though. With all my projects I'm just finding colours that go together and then crossing my fingers and hoping that they'll still look alright when it's actually crocheted!

MasterFlea · 19/08/2013 20:14

Please let me know how it goes jolly. I've been looking at all the lovely pictures of the bag on ravelry and am going to try it when my new yarn comes in the post. That's stylecraft too so would love to know how you find it.

Thinks hard about echoing Soups comment & stay well & truly in denial Grin

But instead - My Name is Rockinhippy & I am a Stashoholic who knew no red misspelling line, my ipad thinks that's actually a real word Shock

I'd be too embarrassed & couldn't even begin to list my stash contents - seriously impressed by those of you that can :)

But I have a room full of all sorts of fabric, some on shelves, some stuffed in bin bags Blush, I have drawers full of trims, sweet jars full of cottons, tin chests full of buttons & more full of beads, sequins, eyelets, boning, rivets & more

I dont knit or crotchet so I only have 6 part balls of yarn though :)

Rockinhippy · 28/08/2013 02:34

I would love to say that is a proper workroom, but alas not, it's an unloved & very tatty attic room, but I'm well on the way to kicking DHs vast vinyl stash out of it & it will be all mine & a proper workroom hopefully soon :)

JollyHappyGiant · 28/08/2013 08:16

It will be a while, MasterFlea. DD is a week old and I'm not finding a great deal of time to crochet!

gintastic · 28/08/2013 08:22

My stash is huge! 2 gigantic boxes of fabric, 4 carrier bags of wool, 4 jelly rolls unopened (my particular weakness...) and a number of unread crafty books.

Current project is a patchwork buggy blanket for my DD, it's made from old pairs of jeans so a bit more hardwearing. Couldn't resist some bits of colour from the ends of an Amy Butler jelly roll... Going to be great but real life keeps intruding on my crafting time. Just finished a crochet baby blanket for a shower tonight which am v happy with. DD1 wants a new school lunch bag as well, might have to oblige...

Ghostsgowoooh · 28/08/2013 08:26

I have a big storage tub and a huge bag for life full of yarn in my bedroom. Most of it was my mums old stash that she couldnt wait to get rid of,its all acrylic in minging colours. What on earth can I make with it?

Doodlekitty · 28/08/2013 08:36

Not enough!!! I've only been knitting 6 months or so and at first I bought odd balls so what I've got stashed is not enough for any of the projects I want to do.
I've also started knitting a sock wool blanket as a kal with my knitting group. Only problem being, I don't knit socks yet! So while everyone else has lots of 10g leftovers I'm having to buy full balls. On the bright side when I do start socks I'm sorted!

SoupDragon · 28/08/2013 09:57

its all acrylic in minging colours. What on earth can I make with it?

Go yarnbombing!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/08/2013 10:07

Could you do this wreath, Ghostsgowooh? I am doing it at the moment, and using cheap acrylic yarn.

Ghostsgowoooh · 28/08/2013 10:13

Whats yarn bombing? Blush

Ghostsgowoooh · 28/08/2013 10:15

Oh wow that wreath is lovely! Thats a great idea!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/08/2013 10:28

Yarnbombing is knitting or crocheting things and leaving them in public places - crocheting a load of flowers, for example, and festooning them all over bushes in the park, or putting a scarf on a public statue - things like that.

I was recently part of a craft bombing event nationally (same theory, but all sorts of crafts not just yarn crafts), where I knitted and crocheted sandwiches that were part of a picnic in the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow - that was fun!

SoupDragon · 28/08/2013 10:29

It's perfect for yarn that you wouldn't normally use :)

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/08/2013 14:13

My stash is huge, and growingBlush

I have yarn in the loft, ds2's bedroom, various bags around the house and a storage unit full to the brim in our kitchen/diner.

I love yarn, and sometimes I just can't resist!

We went on our holidays for 2 weeks and such was my anxiety about not having the right colour yarn, I ended up taking 2 big bags of woolHmm One for the ripple blanket I'm making and one for the mini granny squares blanket I'm also procrastinating over making! Our car was stuffed to the rafters and then some because I couldn't go without my yarn!

Most of it came back, I was too exhausted the end of each day walking, but my half made ripple blanket came in very handy, it gets chilly at night in the Yorkshire Dales!

JollyHappyGiant · 28/08/2013 16:11

Despite not having picked up my crochethook in a week I'm sending DH out to buy yarn tomorrow. Can't justify delivery costs from online retailers for just a few balls.

MasterFlea · 29/08/2013 20:37

Congrats Jolly! I hope you're enjoying plenty of snugly time with your DD.

What's a KAL? I've seen it mentioned a lot but never unabreviated.

My stash has grown in just a week. There's now a big bag of stylecraft in a second room. Working on the Attic crochet bag and loving the colours. May have to make two.

The yarn bombing sounds lovely. I'm imaging some child finding a crocheted flower and thinking it grew there.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 29/08/2013 22:26

KAL is a Knit ALong. The crochet version is, obviously a CAL :)

MasterFlea · 02/09/2013 07:04

Thanks Soupy. Another mystery solved.

Yarnbombing is fab for stash busting. And acrylics are the best as they keep their shape and colour. Here's some I (and friends) made earlier...look
