How much have you stashed?

MasterFlea · 13/08/2013 15:04

My stashes are getting very big. I'm trying to use up some of it but still feel the URGE to add to the woolly stash.

I've currently got two big plastic boxes full of fabric and an archive box bursting with yarn.

What is yours like? Do you see it as a problem or love it?

I am shit hot a past master at retail spin, Parker!

starfishmummy · 15/08/2013 16:29

I dread to think how much stash (knitting, spinning, sewing, art) I have. It is dotted around different rooms in bags - stuff I am working on, project for knit group (easy so I can talk), bags of stuff taken to workshops etc.

I did read a yarn stash tip - buy a beanbag and remove all or some of the filling and use the cover to store yarn. We have a sofa sized beanbag and I am almost tempted...

PukousMucous · 15/08/2013 16:39

I used to feel guilty about by stash, I had no idea I shared the affliction with so many. I have no idea what's in there but I love all of it none the less.

SDTG that wreath is too beautiful just for Christmas, that should be a permanent feature of every kitchen. It's certainly going in my queue behind a trillion other beautiful things.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/08/2013 16:40

I am planning to put it up in the office/library, Pukous - the walls are cerise, so it will look lovely there - and you are right, it is too lovely to be kept for Christmas.

PurpleFrog · 15/08/2013 16:49

MasterFlea - it is not out of stock at Deramores...

JollyHappyGiant · 15/08/2013 18:53

I'm doing a project with some white stylecraft special dk at the moment and it's not as nice a texture as the other colours. I wonder if it's the ball I had or that all white is not as soft.

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/08/2013 19:46

I did a blanket with white stylecraft as one of the stripes and thought it wasn't as nice as the other colours. It seemed to have a looser twist than the other yarn I was using.

My mum was using the white stylecraft baby and that was much nicer although it doesn't seem as thick as the standard DK IYSWIM. Smile

Kikibee · 15/08/2013 20:27

Oh heck, I have now added to my stash thanks to the Christmas wreath! SDT I hold you entirely responsible Wink

ParkerTheThief · 15/08/2013 20:39

I didn't like the white and there is one of the green shades (might be aspen) that seems much thinner than the others and doesn't work up as nicely.

Showtime · 15/08/2013 23:41

I've lots of assorted stuff, like everyone else, but last week, for the first time ever, I sorted through the two boxes of "small scraps of special fabrics"
throwing away any colours I didn't really enjoy, and made more room for even more fabrics...Reccommended.

MasterFlea · 16/08/2013 06:20

I went a bit mad on the Deramores site. I got the Attic pack of sylecraft balls. Of course, after I paid, I realised the other stuff was back in stock. oops!

I'm up for helping with oddments too.

Starfish I think I'd be too [precssioussss] over people sitting on the beanbag if it was filled with my stash. They might break the bands on new balls. Yes, I'm that sad.

My DDs love getting hold of a new ball. 18 month old rips the band to bits and the 3.5 year old goes fishing, bandages the horse or pretends she's on a treasure hunt and has to follow the line.

'Found' a lot of my stash the other night when getting the suitcases out. Must have around 25 balls of stylecraft and around 30 of Debbie Bliss. Oops

RedundantExpat · 16/08/2013 07:02

My stash is so big that giving away bags full of wool and fabric to friends after having read a decluttering thread hasn't even made a dent in it!

It has prompted me to actually start a rug out of my bag full of old children's tights, though.

PukousMucous · 16/08/2013 09:14

Redundant, I wish I was your friend.

goodjambadjar · 16/08/2013 11:49

Too much to tell my DP about. I tend to hide it, or he wouldn't be impressed that I have stuff I don't 'need'.

I have bought some especially for projects, and then I see something on offer, or is irresistible...
I have 2 large bags of wool, needles and knitting accessories in my wardrobe, and bits and bobs in my dresser drawer, and more bits and bobs in the sideboard. The idea being that I have projects I can pick up when I feel like it.

I have a small tool box of general crafting supplies, like stickers, paint, glue, glitter, etc

I have a large tool box for my sewing stuff like needles, etc, and a small storage box for fabric scraps, buttons and ribbons, and two large storage boxes of fabric.

I also have 3 storage boxes full of silicone bakeware. But I subscribed to a magazine which has nearly finished, and most of it had been really handy!

One advantage of being a lone parent :o

ParkerTheThief · 16/08/2013 13:37

I think DH is an enabler - when we were on holiday recently he was the one who spotted and pointed out the yarn shops.

Mind you, I don't mention tolerate his need to random bits of wood and more tools than anyone could ever need and he builds shelves for me to store my stash on.

goodjambadjar · 16/08/2013 15:37

This thread has made me take out my secret stash. I bought a James Brett colour pack a couple of months ago, and loved all the colours, except the mustard. It didn't seem to fit. But now, if my current project works (woolly cat shaped cushion), I can see myself using it to make a ginger and cream cuddle buddy. Grin

Thanks ladies!

Here's what you can do with all your yarn stash

JollyHappyGiant · 17/08/2013 22:48

attic24.typepad.com/weblog/crochet-bag.html

I want to do that with mine. But I'm really not a bag person, so I wouldn't use it. I wonder if I have time, and enough yarn, to make one each for my sisters birthdays.

Polter, you don't happen to know how much yarn you used, do you? I have about 11 50g balls of sirdar snuggly baby bamboo and I'm wondering if I could get 2 bags out of it.

Thank you so much for replying! I'm definitely not managing two then!

SoupDragon · 18/08/2013 07:04

As I understand it, the bag is huge so you could size it down.
