Quiche-tastic.

Bizarrely, I have no problem with US/UK. I can switch between the two without my effort. I actually have a slight preference for US as it makes more sense. And I don't know what a US TC is in UK... Something unwieldy IIRC.

I'm ok if I know for certain which it is to start with. I have one mary jane slipper that would fit bigfoot due to forgetting to check if the pattern website was English or American Blush

PurplePidjin · 11/06/2012 18:21

Extended Treble, i think (xtc) :)

GiraffeAHolic · 11/06/2012 18:24

Us treble = Uk double treble.

Wrap the yarn over the hook twice and insert the hook into the work, yarn over hook draw through work. Wrap the yarn over hook, draw through first two loops, yarn over hook draw through next two loops, yarn over hook draw through last two loops.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2012 18:30

See, US is far better much as it pains me to say it

English makes more sense to me because it refers to the number of yarnovers...

Jules146 · 11/06/2012 18:51

Oh... Blush must read up on abbreviations... must read up on abbreviations

Morning , lovely hookers Smile

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 12/06/2012 08:34

ooh hello - this looks like a good place for me.
Was taught by my mum when little and have just recently taken up again. Have made a bag to put my wool in, a beanie hat, some oven gloves, a cushion cover and now embarking on a throw. (this is the one and its looking good so far... www.garnstudio.com/lang/us/pattern.php?id=5614&lang=us )
Will try to post some pics later (but it may take a while!)

SoupDragon · 12/06/2012 08:51

Oooooh, fancy :o Very nice.

Hello ladies Brew

The two squares patterns I used were the Flowers in the Snow pattern from Ravelry, and Summer Garden square from Attic24.
Neither comes up to 6", so I just made up some borders.

I think I found that a row of Uk trebles / US dc is about 0.5", so a border adds 1".
It was a good opportunity for me to try out some new stitches, being a beginner. Turning corners I just did 3 or 5 stitches into the previous corner stitch. Adding borders also stabilises the square and makes it less holey / floppy if the centre is mostly granny clusters.

PurplePidjin · 12/06/2012 12:13

I do the same, thell, put a row of either dc or tc around (mine are slightly over .5" plus i often do something fancy in the middle which means the square comes up an odd size!)

Makes it sooooooooo much easier, especially on the mixed knit/crochet Woolly Hugs!

PurplePidjin · 12/06/2012 12:14

PS for corners on solid rows 2tc ch1 2tc in the hole works well :)

SoupDragon · 12/06/2012 12:16

I favour a 2-2-2 formation on my corners :o

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 12/06/2012 18:08

My corners are 3-1-3 :o
Funny how they're so different

Might have a go at this one if I have enough cream in the stash :)

GiraffeAHolic · 12/06/2012 19:31

My corners are 3tr 3ch 3tr :)

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 12/06/2012 22:27

I like a 2dc 2ch 2dc corner!!!

Heres my throw so far

Will use this thread as motivation to finish it and get it to full size and some nice edging.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/06/2012 23:50

I tend to use a 3dc corner - I usually edge in dcs.

TwoJackRussellsandababy · 13/06/2012 09:59

Morning Jules

I shall put myself in the 2dc 2chain 2dc team, though I think I work mostly in US terms Blush

My rainbow ripple is almost done, although took a lot more wool than I originally bought, don't think DH realises quite how much more....

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/06/2012 07:31

If a pattern uses the term single crochet, it is American right?

KnottyLocks · 14/06/2012 07:44

Yep Smile

American SC is UK DC.
