Beginning of December, and he's Blue flavoured :o

SoupDragon · 17/09/2012 14:06

Boys are the best. :) BabyDragons are a fecking nightmare. Love her to bits but...

I adore the Baby Bamboo. It makes beautiful baby blankets.

The James C Brett "Cotton On" I think is a replacement for "Kool Kotton" (thankfully) which I think Lucy of Attic24 may have used but I can't remember what for and liked.

Awww congratulations Pidj, I'm a December baby too (2nd) :)

I've got to undo some rows later, can see where I've gone wrong and am going all weird shaped again - but better than before so it's all good :)

SoupDragon · 17/09/2012 14:25

Are you crocheting into the starting chain? Not sure what you're doing but not doing that seems to be a common mistake from reading a around - makes the edges wonky apparently.

PurplePidjin · 17/09/2012 14:43

That or accidentally skipping the last stitch of the previous row where it gets hidden under the turning chain or forgetting the turning ch altogether, oh no not me

LollipopViolet · 17/09/2012 15:50

I think I'm missing the last stitch of a row, then not, so the row basically shrinks by one stitch and I get a sort of weird shape instead of a square...

PurplePidjin · 17/09/2012 17:24

Crocheting into the previous row's turning chain can be a bit fiddly

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 17/09/2012 17:35

ooh thats why you have all the lovely baby things - for pidj chick!
the snake looks very cute...

(Family keep asking who I'm going to give my teddy to, and I have to bite my tongue that I don't want to give it to anyone because if there's a little 'stuck' in the next few years I'd like them to have the first teddy I made!)

I like patterns that tell me how many stitches to expect at the end of the row, so I can count up and check I'm staying on track... Get a few rows done and the hang of the pattern and then you don't have to count as obssessively!

PurplePidjin · 17/09/2012 18:09

Yep, pregnancy = crocheter's heaven - especially as it involves sitting on my arse on the sofa with biscuits :o

I count rows but it becomes more subconscious with practice iyswim.

Somersaults · 17/09/2012 19:27

Signing in. Will hopefully catch up back through the thread a bit later but there's a whining DD who needs my attention just now!

LollipopViolet · 17/09/2012 20:42

Whoever said about making sure you crochet into the chain you used for turning is a genius! I am in the middle of crocheting a lovely square thanks to that bit of advice!

I think that's how I'll do my blanket - squares, there's less counting and it's a bit easier to go back.

Just need to work out how many balls of wool I need and how many squares...

SoupDragon · 17/09/2012 20:57

Yay!

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 17/09/2012 21:19

3 squares to a ball, 9 squares to a blanket = 3 balks of wool + 1 for joining and edging = 4

If they're 50g balls. Otherwise, 200g of yarn in total :)

LollipopViolet · 17/09/2012 22:36

Look what I did tee hee!

It's not perfect, but it's a start. I'm making a pink square now, to attach to it :)

SoupDragon · 18/09/2012 07:04

That looks exactly like my first efforts. Except mine was lilac :o

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 18/09/2012 09:48

Yay, Lolli! Thanks

LollipopViolet · 18/09/2012 20:05

I'm guessing the yay means it's looking OK?

I went to the wool shop today. Oh my, when I know some more patterns I'll be in heaven!

Need to get rid of my current stash before I go spending, but don't think it's soft enough for a Little Hug, so am making a pink blanket to use that up, and will be showing it to various people I know with baby girls, to see if they'd like it.

Then I've got 2 shades of blue to use, but a friend has a 1 yo DS and another friend's DP has recently given birth to a DS.

Friends are going to be getting blankets for Christmas muahahahaha!

I've seen a LOVELY wool I'd like to use to make a blanket for myself, for when I get cold at the ice hockey - Look!

I also LOVE the marble baby wool here I felt it today - it's SO soft!

PurplePidjin · 18/09/2012 20:56

It looks fabulous! Hope you have plenty of free time to make all these blankets, though Wink Mind, you could crochet at ice hockey, on the bus etc :o

LollipopViolet · 18/09/2012 21:24

I'm currently job hunting after uni, so I have too much a lot of free time!

Hmmm, crocheting during the hockey, at least in the intervals, is a possibility. Might earn me the reputation of the crazy crochet lady among my friends, but oh well! :)

PurplePidjin · 18/09/2012 22:18

Decent friends will let you get on with it, maybe a gentle ribbing - but we can teach you that technique later Wink

LollipopViolet · 18/09/2012 22:27

That's what I meant Pidj, there is much ribbing amongst my hockey friends for various things - it's great fun! :)

PurplePidjin · 19/09/2012 07:30

Just tell them they obviously don't want a Christmas present this year :o

SoupDragon · 19/09/2012 08:12

I crochet at rugby :)

It's not me playing, obviously. :o

SoupDragon · 19/09/2012 08:12

Your hockey friends will all be after team scarves before long.

I crochet everywhere, if I could get away with it in staff meetings I would (it would probably be a more productive use of my time)
