Yes, you can :)

It does form a pattern with the texture but it's absolutely fine. My ripple blanket has stripes made of one strip "right side" and one strip "wrong side" :)

As promised, I have finally put up my picture of the first crochet square I managed thanks to all of your help. I'm now like a crochet machine (where squares are concerned - I have yet to delve into other patterns) and will have to do something about them soon. They look so pretty in their little stacks though.

Thanks again Smile Thanks

KinkyDorito · 28/08/2012 20:07

Hope it is visible. I've changed settings.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 28/08/2012 20:43

Well done KinkyDorito, be warned - it is very very addictive

SoupDragon · 28/08/2012 21:13

love the granny square KinkyDorito, the graduation of colours looks really effective

It's 1980s wool!! I used to knit loads as a child, and I had a bag of wool. We found it in the loft at parents' just as I decided to start crochet. I used it for my experimental phase! It's a bit fluffy too. I think I knit myself a boob tube out of it when I was 9 Grin Grin.

KinkyDorito · 29/08/2012 11:11

A not-so boob tube really. Grin

Checking in. Smile

Skoggy · 30/08/2012 10:43

Hi all!!!!

I've been nudged in this direction from Pidjin. I'm Skoggy and I love my hook!!!! Grin

I've been crocheting properly for a short about of time but learnt when I was a lot younger. I'm on Ravelry (username is the same as here) and am very active on a crochet site called Crochetville (same username again). I enjoy doing CALs, swaps, making squares for comfort-ghans etc. Right now I'm trying to sort out an Etsy shop but its just a matter of finding time with a 1 year old and one on the way on 3rd of Nov.

Hope to "meet" you soon.

Skoggy

SoupDragon · 30/08/2012 10:55

"finding time" Hahahaha :o

Hello all!!!

Yep, definitely addictive - it starts with squares (January) and before you know it you can't watch tv without something in your hands!

Had a week off crocheting as had no wool, but yesterday my Debbie Bliss Prima arrived (thanks PantryBoy Thanks). Its a lovely combination of stone, aubergine, moss and sage. I thought I'd done my yardage sums and would have enough for a blanket but it looks a bit small, so may need to get some more and hide it from DP who thinks I am obsessed with wool

Currently negotiating with a turkish company on ebay for some chenille for a really thick throw as I can't seem to find any uk supplier that either has it, or has it for a reasonable price!!! DP is actually an ebay pro so I've left him with that job - god knows what I'll end up with even though my instructions are very clear!!!

PurplePidjin · 30/08/2012 15:47

Yay, Skoggy, you made it! I'm due 30/11... So, how do you feel about crocheted soakers Wink

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 30/08/2012 17:50

Welcome Skoggy.

Oooh, StuckInTheFens, is the Debbie Bliss Prima nice? I was very good and didn't buy any, mainly because I have sorted out my craftroom and had a shocking amount of wool.
I have decided that I have to complete at least 2 blankets before I buy anymore.

KinkyDorito · 31/08/2012 20:09

How many 4 round granny squares would I need to produce a large blanket (big enough for me to wrap myself up in)?

I think it will take a while. I've done about 30 so far...

Then I have to figure out how to join them. They are also all different colours, so I'm guessing that will make attaching them more interesting.

KinkyDorito · 31/08/2012 20:09

I also have quite a few ends to sew in.

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 31/08/2012 20:53

Evening hookie folks - I am now proficient enough to have moved on from granny squares and to be trying a circular baggie. Whoot whoot.

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2012 22:50

Kinky, what is the measurement of your squares?

KinkyAllTooOrangeDorito · 31/08/2012 23:36

3.5 inches.

KinkyAllTooOrangeDorito · 31/08/2012 23:39

I have also underestimated my productivity. I have 61 so far. Grin

Hello, I was suckered in to buying the 99p art of crochet magazine with a free hook and 2 balls of yarn! I have wanted to learn for a while so decided to go for it.

This is what I've learnt........ It's really hard!!!

I have just about mastered a foundation chain but as soon as I try proper stitches ( slip stitch and double crochet) the chain goes all twisty like a worm and I lose track of where I am and it just looks a total mess!

A pearls of wisdom from you lovely ladies? I really want to persevere.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 17:43

Hello :) You just need to take your time with that first row going into the foundation chain. It's probably the hardest row TBH.

Social I only learnt a couple of weeks ago. It took me a few hours of swearing to get into the swing of it. Soup linked to some really useful online tutorials for me that go really slow. They were invaluable, and are a little bit further back up this thread. Good luck with it. Smile
