Quiche-tastic.

Soupy see above posts mourning lack of progress due to repeated frogging to allow for fluctuating waist size Blush

A knob cover you say.... :o I can't say I've ever seen a crochet covered knob!

Anyone have any nice patterns for a russian doll? I was thinking of making one for a friend's lo but haven't seen a really nice one.

SoupDragon · 30/06/2012 22:56

I have been sniggering childishly at my knob covers ever since I made them :o I even called them that to my usually straight-laced mother and she giggled (bless her).

No idea about Russian dolls. A search for matryoshka on Ravelry throw up a couple of nice ones (one of the ones I like is free, the other isn't)

ah soupy I hate ravelry :(
well, no I don't hate it, just don't get the fuss...but I'll try :)

My mum, who remained poker faced at years of giggling at fingering weight wool, has a tshirt of a famous shop in Dublin called "Knobs and Knockers"! She won't wear it out now or anything, but she has it :o

SoupDragon · 30/06/2012 23:16

My favourite tow were This one which costs and this free one which may be a dodgy translation!

Both links to the blogs/etsy where the pattern actually is rather than Ravelry :)

There's a Russian doll pattern in the latest Nikki Trench book. Cute & easy crochet I think it is called.

DillyTante · 01/07/2012 22:46

So, I'd never even heard of a pot holder before I discovered crochet but this one is so cute! It's on my to do list. Which is huge!

Have a big yarn bomb planned for Tuesday so watch this space.

PurplePidjin · 02/07/2012 08:56

Dilly, i told the knitting group I've just joined about yarn bombing and I'm trying to talk them into a mass one! We meet twice a week, so I'm tempted to do the church hall which is one of the venues...

None of them really "does" computers so i might load your blog up on my tablet to show them - i often load up a pattern I'm working on and take it with me, too Oohs of amazement at the marvels of the 21st century Hmm

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 09:12

I use my iPad for crochet a lot - I have a note taking app where I can put a screenshot of the internet pattern and then cross off rows as I do them. I rather like the merging of an old craft with new tech :)

PurplePidjin · 02/07/2012 09:37

As long as i load the page up on my wifi, i can put the playbook in and out of standby and still see the page. Pdf and word/excel files are even easier :)

It amazes the lovely but more mature ladies I've met who are all stuck peering at blurry photocopies Wink

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 09:42

I now have a virtual notebook dedicated to crochet so all my favourite patterns are there.
[geek]

I"ve not ventured along to any clubs/chats/meety things though

It's lovely! 6 hours a week of pure craftiness, chatting, coffee and biscuits :o

I have a wardrobe of baby clothes to make so it's my way of making time iyswim

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/07/2012 11:07

See, one of the reasons I took up crochet was to wean me off my Ipad habit. Which has worked to a large extent. I think if I started using it for crochet I would get distracted and end up back on MN instead. It would be easier than printing out bits of paper all the time though. What app do you use Soupy?

GrapesAnatomy · 02/07/2012 11:15

Oooh, what app is that soupdragon? I tend to enlarge the pattern and scroll it up as I do a line so I can only see the line I need to do next. Yours sounds much better Smile

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 11:26

I use Penultimate. It basically creates notebooks you can write in - a recent update added the option to add a photo which is grab as I screenshot the pattern (home key and on/off key together) and use that. Then I can cross rows off with my finger.

It is a great app actually - I use it for note taking using a stylus. Oe of the first apps I downloaded 2 years ago when I got my first iPad :)

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 11:28

I do love the fact that my fave patterns are all in one book I may have embarked on creating an index page. When a MN blanket project comes up, the squares I like the most are all there without having to search for them again.

GrapesAnatomy · 02/07/2012 12:11

Ok, I have invested a whopping 69p soupy (no pressure!) - can I have the notebook landscape?
How do you set out a pattern that is more than one page? I need to know everything Grin

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 12:14

You can - I prefer to work better portrait as i get more pattern per page. I think you'd have to make sure the Penultimate app was in landscape before adding the photo background to ensure it's the right way round.

If the pattern spreads over more than one screen on the webpage, I just take more than one screen shot and have each one on a different page in Penultimate :o

SoupDragon · 02/07/2012 12:15

I have to say that Attic24 annoys me as her patterns have so many photos they take too many pages :o

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 02/07/2012 12:15

I've been using Pinterest to keep links to all my favourite patterns, but this does sound better. I will investigate, thanks!

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 02/07/2012 12:15

Thanks Soupy :) I had seen that second link from pinterest but may need some serious concentration for translating :o
I must get some books, could I get cheap ones from Amazon? Very few crafty shops around here :(

I have the same but handwritten into a copy book
I like having all the patterns together, and I have my notes etc in the margin.

Jules146 · 02/07/2012 14:47

Help! What am I doing wrong?!! Blush What am I doing wrong when I do continuous rows of tr or dc my edges go wobbly... I have the right amount of stitches but its not a nice even edge... anyone know where I am going wrong or am I destined to only be a Granny crocheter??!! :(

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 02/07/2012 14:56

Jules do you ch3 instead of a tr when you're turning the row? That neatened mine up :)

PurplePidjin · 02/07/2012 15:24

The corners are the same on solids as shell grannies - 2 or 3 tc, ch1, 2 or 3 tc :)

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/07/2012 21:44

Yay - I've just finished a blanket, it isn't a huge one but I am really pleased with it.
blanket
I have so many unfinished projects that it is lovely to get omething completly done

Can I ask, am I the only one who doesn't get on with ravelry? I've registered but I can't seem to get to grips with it at all
