If you can knit AT ALL could you please CAT either of us?

We are making a blanket present with a Mn connection and would love as many people as feel willing and able to contribute a 15cm square, plain or fancy as you like, in cotton double knitting yarn. We can help with sourcing suppliers.
More details available off-board.

It's a surprise for the person in question, so please, please contact us for more info rather than make guesses etc on here...it's in an extremely good cause.

Very many thanks to anyone who feels able to help. XXX

19th Nov ladeez. I think you both have my e-mail address so please contact me off-board as it is a surprise for the recipient. Nice to see you both around btw
Don't worry about the show Fio, I ended up missing out too. Another time hopefully

PS It's not going anywhere near the pensioners of Peckham that I can assure you Hester (sigh of relief heard from SE15)

hester · 04/11/2005 12:30

oops sorry marina

Marina · 04/11/2005 12:32

So come on then, how are you all? How is your gorgeous dd?

Oh blimey, she is just a marvel. Superior in every way to every other baby that ever lived. Beautiful, of course, and hardly ever cries. Feeds like a little vampire - or rather, like a rugby player attacking a vindaloo after a hard night on the wazz. She's put on 2lb in two weeks, and her mothers are INCREDIBLY PROUD.

Suppose I should shut up now and go knit a square

AuntyQuated · 11/11/2005 12:58

How many squares do you have?

Marina · 11/11/2005 14:30

Including the lovely red one the other day from Sis and three very handsome crocheted jobbies from MummytoSteven this morning, 35!

If slackers like Hester would just stop admiring their humongous newborns and get on with it , who knows what might happen.

Please could all kind knitters give me an idea of how many more I can expect so I can start thinking finished dimensions and wondering how many I need to crank out to make an oblong.

Deadline for sending them back to me please is as near to 19th November as you can manage.

I've done 4. Will do more if you need any. (A few mistakes on mine )

tissy · 11/11/2005 14:33

marina, I've nearly finished my second one, but somehow my tension is all wrong, and it is 17x 17cm...is that alright? I have got time to unpick it and start again, I think!

NotQuiteCockney · 11/11/2005 14:34

I've done five (effectively) - one big one (30cm x 30cm) and one small. I'm thinking about making another one, with a new (entirely original) pattern on it - I'll do it, or not, this weekend, and post you what I've got on Monday.

I can do a spare square or two as needed, as well, just simple ones.

SueW · 11/11/2005 14:36

I've got two more to send.

sis · 11/11/2005 14:39

oh good, I'm glad my one eventually got there - sorry for being so slack in posting it.

tamum · 11/11/2005 14:45

I was forgetting the little details of actually, you know, sending them . I have 8 to send, although one of them (the first I did) is nearer 15.5 cm so may have to be chucked. I will send these on to you Marina, but will gladly do more as required. 35 so far is great, isn't it? Fantastic response

Marina · 11/11/2005 14:47

tissy, would you hate me a lot if I asked if you could whittle it down a bit? I am sorry, but we may be faced with a bit of a jigsaw puzzle otherwise.
Actually, I have a thought. If you can make it 17cm WIDE but only 15 cm HIGH (ie, unravel a few rows off the top but don't redo the whole thing) I will make you a little rectanglet to go on the end of yours to make it a double-widther.
Tinker, I think the odd little errors (mine have them too!) are what make it a proper special effort - it is obviously handmade. I have been doing sample "spreads" and the cumulative effect even of the ones I have so far is really gorgeous!
NQC, I must admit I am especially looking forward to seeing your magnum opus! I've done nine so far, one plain, three striped and five textured. But I have the perfect commute for this and am managing three a week on the train!

I did worry you might fax them to me or something like that tamum
Plenty more to come from the sound of things, it's going to make a lovely spread.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/11/2005 14:49

I've got distracted into doing a hat for my MIL, but I really want to make up this new pattern - it would be my first go at making up a textured picture on my own.

Marina · 11/11/2005 14:49

you are not the only one who gulped at that Tinker. Steady on there, Scottish Scientific Correspondent, you are scaring us amateurs! There's always boil wash as a reserve tactic tinker, don't worry...

OP posts:
Marina · 11/11/2005 14:50

If I was knitting a hat for my MIL NQC I regret it would be a steel wool balaclava with an airtight lining. You are a saint, clearly

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 11/11/2005 14:52

Mine aren't 100% precise, but I figure you can block to fit?

Ok, just checked, I have one 29.5 x 30, and one 15 x 15. Neither is pulled taut at all.

NotQuiteCockney · 11/11/2005 14:53

Oh, my MIL is getting a cashmerino. Rolled brim, and "ribbed leaf" pattern, which is not ribbed at all, really more of a twist-stitch-all-over pattern.

tissy · 11/11/2005 14:54

oh, OK, Miss....

I'll do it again.

Marina · 11/11/2005 14:55

Just the last few rows tissy, to make it 15cm tall, and I will do a little snip on the end to fill in. Don't reknit the whole square unless you are passionately keen to do so
Is it the same gorgeous colour btw...

OP posts:
tamum · 11/11/2005 15:12

Oops sorry, didn't mean to a) scare or b) sound smug. It may well be even bigger than that actually. I am only thinking of you, dear Marina, trying to sew up all these random size squares

Actually I thought I might scan them in and email them
