Hi girls - i hope this becomes a useful area

OP posts:
peanuthead · 28/04/2010 19:29

Katiec - it's because you're having a boy this time round!

katiecubs · 28/04/2010 19:33

Do you know peanuthead i've had a strong feeling from the very beginning that it's a boy - will have to wait till august to see if i'm right!

Hope you and the baby are well xxx

Sorry Helenlouisey - just read back and saw what you said - I have to say that I think having hyperemesis and then having to terminate is the biggest slap in the face. My termination was back in Sept and I was fairly sick with it - having been really bad with DD 3 years ago and really bad again with this current one - and it seemed so unfair to put up with being so ill for nothing. I know it's still totally awful to go through what we've all been through but to go through it with hyperemesis is vorse somehow. It's so hard.

There's every chance you might not be as sick next time - I've found all 3 of my pgs different in terms of sickness. And if you are - it will end! (well that's what I keep saying to myself too....) Not sure if this is an encouraging post or not but it's meant to be symnpathetic at least.

Hi to everyone else - nothing much to say about TTC - never really worked for us....but I do unfortunately remember only too well the count down to period day.

peanuthead · 28/04/2010 19:44

Xpost Katie - I only say that because I was so sick with DD and not that bad with (lost) DS. And now am really sick again and I "know" it's a girl. And I know your lost baby was a girl. I need to get a life, am obsessed with morning sickness and its various permutations currently.

MimsyStarr · 28/04/2010 22:37

Hi HelenLouisey, welcome. I also had a T18 pregnancy first time round, and chose to terminate. Had better luck with my second pregnancy - DS is 18 months now. I am so lucky to have him! We are TTC #2 now. I joined this thread when I was pregnant earlier this year, but had MMC at 9 weeks. And trying again now... unfortunately got my period yesterday so no good news here just yet.

Starting to TTC again after the first time wasn't as nerve wracking as I thought - initially. My consultant at the FMU did a good job convincing us that the odds were that we would be fine next time. Just had to get pregnant to prove it! But then, each month that I didn't get pregnant, I took it harder and harder. It took us 8 months and by the end I was a bit of a wreck. I didn't know about Mumsnet back then!! I could have really done with the support at the time.

So you are in the right place. Hope we can all help. x

Havingkittens · 28/04/2010 22:55

Oh bugger Mimsy, sorry to hear this isn't your month. Fingers crossed for next time. Are you trying any special tricks like using pre-seed or anything?

Excuse the TMI but at my ripe old age I don't seem to be experiencing the EWCM like I used to. If it doesn't work out this time I might try it, and grapefruit juice and Robistussin. Haha, been reading all the frantic TTC threads!

MimsyStarr · 28/04/2010 23:00

Kittens, we almost need to do stats/tickers like a bus so I can keep track of where we are. I can hardly keep track of myself! My period arrived before I even got around to buying more pregnancy tests. Another symptom of my lack of enthusiasm in the TTC stakes lately.

TTC#2 Cycle 10? UCL 27 CD 2

Can you all remind me to SWI this month???

Havingkittens · 29/04/2010 00:33

The thing I'm never sure about with those stats is the first TTC (erm, can't find the hash key on my MacBook!) number. I don't have any kids so far but effectively this is the 5th time I'm TTC.

So, TTC?1-5 Cycle 2 (since MMC), UCL 29 (I think, this time) CD 23 (by the time you read this as it's after midnight)

Still finding my feet re cycle lengths as they were between 23-26 days before my last pregnancy and 31 days before the pregnancy before that!

So, it looks like you're not the only confused one. I can't even write out my stats properly!

MimsyStarr · 29/04/2010 13:58

Yes you are TTC#1, trying to conceive your first child. I also get confused about the Cycle one, but I think it's supposed to be the number of cycles you have been trying to conceive this baby. So for me it has been since my period returned after having DS, which I think is 10 cycles (but then I could qualify that by putting '2 post MMC' in brackets after it).

Do you know, I actually bought some Robitussin when I was TTC with DS. Never got round to using it and I think I have chucked it out. So not sure if it works, but worth a try again!

What is pre-seed? Sounds like I could put it in my windowbox!!!
(which is currently awaiting the warmer weather for the planting of my lettuce seeds!)

Havingkittens · 29/04/2010 15:05

Haha, Pre-seed is a "Sperm friendly" lubricant which I'm guessing has a similar texture to EWCM. Probably won't help your lettuces much though.

Gosh, I couldn't even begin to know how many cycles it's been since I started TTC! I started in July 2007 (I only remember this because Glastonbury was supposed to be my last wild weekend before TTC). Would I then just try to average out how many months that's been and use that as a 'guestimate'?

katiecubs · 30/04/2010 19:32

Just popping in quickly to wish everybody a happy bank holiday weekend!

Am off to Bournemouth on another teetotal hen weekend x

OP posts:
MimsyStarr · 01/05/2010 15:06

Thanks Katiecubs. Enjoy the hens night!

Kittens- I know, it is depressing when you look back at how many cycles. A friend who started trying same time as me is having her baby this weekend. People from my NCT group had gone back to work and are now preg with their 2nd and I have been trying the entire time and got nowhere ... whinge, whine, whinge! I am going to stop whining now.
Oops DS is up so better go now... post later ... x I know I am lucky to have DS so shouldn't whinge!

MimsyStarr · 03/05/2010 21:22

I have just been reading back through this thread because I usually read it so fast that I am sure I have missed half of what is going on. For example:

NumptyMum I am in Glasgow too, and I just read your post from a while back about arrangements for your DS when you go in hospital. When exactly are you due? We are away for most of June but I think we are back for the 27th so may be an option for helping out if you get stuck, and go over your dates.

And Mishtabel I have just realised I missed your post replying to me. Sorry, what a nong I am. Well I moved to Glasgow via London, so the shock was not as great as coming here direct from Brissy. DH is from here but we met when we were both working in London. Been in the UK for 5 years and a weegie for 2. (I don't make a very convincing weegie - I try out the accent with DS and he just looks at me but he laughs when I say 'Awreet'!).

I miss Aus lots even though we had been visiting more than once a year (not this year though). But my parents are coming to visit soon, so that will be great. I have a very large family and I will miss seeing the rest of them. We Skype but it's hard to skype with a toddler around.

Where you are living sounds lovely. My sister lives roundabout Lismore. Its chilled and great to be near the coast. The UK must seem impossibly glam to your DD in comparison (though I reckon if she lived here she would probably think the opposite). How is your MIL getting on? And how is your bella Bella?

NumptyMum · 03/05/2010 22:31

Hi all

Back from hols - though Gatwick Airport was a nightmare. First at check-in, asked about being pregnant, produced the letter, and because it wasn't within 7 days of my RETURN flight they hummed and hawed until I pointed out that having been on holiday for the last 10 days I doubted I could have got a local doctor's appointment in order to write me a letter when the last letter was only a week previous. Then, going through security, DH had his laptop scanned and I had my bag searched (we must have looked REALLY suspicious, pregnant lady and husband with toddler). Fault - I had got DS's toddler cutlery with me. No, not a knife, but his FORK. FFS, was I going to PRONG someone to death?! Really pissed off they confiscated it as it was a present from BIL and mainly because it seemed so unnecessary and petty. After all, if I were a black-belt in karate they could hardly confiscate my hands and a toddler fork would be the least of their worries. I hate Gatwick. Almost wished I could give birth in the 1 hour that we would be in the air, just to spite them.

Anyway, the hols were lovely. Stayed at my Dad's for first part, then to my Mum's, and did lots of things that DS really enjoyed, like swimming, visiting farm parks, going on buses and steam trains. So, other than the last bit it was great.

But now I'm really conscious that I'm on the home straight, so to speak. Got to get drinking the raspberry leaf tea, remember what actually is useful for hospital, in fact, visit the hospital wards (as not been there before), think of possible names for baby, check to see if there's stuff I need to buy still, and I finish work in 5 weeks - yikes!

Mimsy - thanks for your offer of help. If last time is anything to go by, I'm not expecting baby until mid July... I've already a couple of options re childcare but might be nice to meet anyway - are you ever in the west end of the city? I have friend from here who's done opposite to you ie gone from here to Aus (Adelaide) and now has to skype/visit infrequently to see family. They've not been there long though, only left last year. Also know what you mean re NCT group/other mums; two folk in my group have had their 2nd and are back at work after mat leave already... in my plans, I'd have done that too if my body had been co-operative.

Mishtabel - your caravan stay sounds lovely, hope you feel refreshed after it. Katie - hope hen weekend was fun, in a teetotal way... Katerina, if you're here, wishing you all the best - guessing you must be due soon?? Peanuthead and Allstars, how are things with you? And to all those who are TTC (Kittens, Helen, LittlePoot, Mimsy) wishing you all well and hoping the stress/excitement/tension/anticipation/frustration of POS doesn't get you down... xx

Cantdothisagain · 04/05/2010 15:30

TTC - I recommend holiday booking. People always seem to get pregnant after booking holidays... Speaking of which - LittlePoot?

Numpty, grrr about the fork, how STUPID. We got accosted once and accused - turned out MIL had tucked a jar of homemade jam in my handluggage without telling me...

BabyCant is three weeks old and thriving. It's a year since the due date of my first lost baby - so odd, to imagine I could have a toddler rather than a newborn. So grateful for newborn though...

Anyway Numpty not long now, wow. Katie, you are doing well with the hen nights - hate that sort of thing even when not off alcohol... and keep us posted on the TTC, everyone else. It's time for a new BFP...

Havingkittens · 04/05/2010 18:14

Hello, hope you all had a nice holiday weekend. Shame about the rubbish weather. We went to the coast and it was cold and rainy all weekend until, of course, the sun came beaming down on the drive back.

I wonder how LittlePoot's holiday is going. I guess she's back at the weekend. I wonder if she has and 'news'.

I caved today (god, I'm so rubbish!) and POAS 2 days before my period is due. I didn't think I would be pregnant as I've not been feeling pregnant. Although the last few days I've been really thirsty and tired so my curiosity snuck up and got the better of me. Soooo, there was a VERY feint line. You know the kind that, if it was a sound only a dog could hear it! But, it was there. My period is due on Thursday and I have to get up at 5am and bugger off to work whilst my other half is asleep. Sadly, Thursday is also our anniversary and I probably won't see him for most of the waking hours of the day, nor the next so the plan is to POAS again on my last internet cheapy and if the line is still there and darker I will do a digital test and leave that inside a Happy Anniversary card for him to find before he goes to work!

You're right Cantdo, about booking holidays. I haven't booked one but I know that is a sure fire way of getting some freelance work bookings for the time that I'm away. Mind you, what I did do was buy myself a brand new pair of high waisted jeans last week so it amounts to the same thing. The other thing is that a couple we know are having a party in a couple of weeks. The last two times they've had a do I've been pregnant and not able to tell anyone why I'm not drinking so maybe I will continue the trend.

Lovely to hear your little one is doing well Cantdo. So chuffed for you.

Katie, I'm with cantdo on the hen nights thing. Must be hard sober, I'm not a big fan of hen nights either!

Numpty, my uncle wasn't even allowed to take a fork onto the flight with him when he was the Captain of the 'plane! Quite ridiculous. The whole liquid thing is crazy too. Especially when it comes to baby milk etc.

peanuthead · 04/05/2010 19:34

HK - may I be the first to offer (muted if you like) congratulations? A line is only there if you are pg! That'll be the jeans!

Havingkittens · 04/05/2010 20:07

Thank you Peanut. How are you doing? Has your sickness waned yet? How many weeks are you now?

Yes, very tentative at the moment in case it turns out to be a chemical pg or early m/c. I will let you know how it transpires in the next few days. I've been so tired so, typically, this week I am working like a mad thing. Thursday and Friday will be somewhere between 12-19 hours long if the last shoot I did for this lot is anything to go by.

NumptyMum · 04/05/2010 21:53

Fingers crossed Kittens! Know what you mean about the faint blue line - I had that this time and it DID get stronger after a week, so here's hoping... and I hope you get the strength for your very long work hours later in the week, such a shame it's on your anniversary. Would be GREAT if you could give your most wanted anniversary present though. xx

LittlePoot · 05/05/2010 10:22

Morning all,

And a big woo-hoo to kittens!! I've always had feint lines, although with my history maybe I'm not a good comparison! But a line is a line and you're definitely due some luck. Will keep my fingers firmly crossed that this one burrows in and holds on tight for the next 8 months and finally we get a baby kittens (kitten of kittens?) to play with.

No (positive) news here I'm afraid - POAS on holiday and it was a very definite no, and for the first time ever I resisted peeing on any more and waited for my period. Which duly came. Rubbish! Although with the heat and the wine, it was probably for the best. Egypt is fabulous by the way ladies - highly recommended if you fancy some archeology and culture. I could stare at heiroglyphics (sp?) all day....

Anyway, I'm back to a mountain of work so really should get on. From my quick scan, I hope I'm right in thinking that everyone is more or less ok? Hope babies, bumps and nearly bumps are all present and correct and will do my very best to produce the goods this month instead!

Love to all x

Havingkittens · 05/05/2010 13:33

Glad you had a lovely holiday LittlePoot. Like you say, it's probably better for you that you got to fully enjoy your holiday rather than having to watch what you eat and drink. Not to mention feeling sick and knackered on holiday. Fingers crossed for next month!

Funnily enough I use the name Babykitten on a few other forums that I'm on.

MimsyStarr · 05/05/2010 14:11

Kittens that is brilliant! I love your plan with the Anniversary card. I dearly hope this works out. Come on the little mulberry!

I have started peeing on ov sticks today. Lucky DHs flight to London was cancelled so he's around now.

Numptymum I live in the west end. Near the pond. Do you know where I mean?

NumptyMum · 05/05/2010 18:32

Hi Mimsy - is that the pond near the hospital, or the big one in the park with lots of swans on, or the smaller one in the OTHER park with the art gallery nearby? Never realised how many ponds there were til thinking about it just now! Guessing you'll mean the big pond with swans in the park...

We're a bit more central (in tiny flat as consequence), near botanic gardens and various main roads.

helenlouisey · 05/05/2010 21:04

Thank you ladies for all your messages and reassurance, sorry for not replying sooner but we went away for a long weekend over the bank holiday.

Kittens, fingers crossed for you, my first tests with my DS and last pregnancy were very feint at first, so I hope it's good news

shangrila · 05/05/2010 21:08

Quickest woo-hoo! to kittens! Lovely news, let us know more when you can.
