DP has "gone hiking in a national park with a colleague for the weekend" after a conference. The national park is rather remote, and the accommodation apparently doesn't have wifi. So I accepted that there would be no contact from Friday morning until they returned to the airport Monday night.

Except Google's wondrous data-dribbling abilities have just informed me (via a GPS-driven automatic facebook update of the colleague) that the colleague returned to London on Friday.

I was already a bit about the lack of wifi meaning no contact because of mega-expensive overseas data download costs, since surely a computer geek and his colleague know how to stop their googlephones automatically syncing diaries etc when they turn the phone on to send a text?

Email and text haven't been answered. DP's phone is clearly in the USA.

i guess I should resist temptation to ring up the colleague and ask what the hell is going on?

True coventgarden. I think I've seen her on another thread so guessing she's ok

HecateQueenOfWitches · 18/07/2010 17:26

Yes, ironically bumping a thread where the op posted about a bad situation and then didn't come back!

tortoisehellOstrich · 18/07/2010 17:34

oh God. It's all ok people! Sorry sorry sorry. and thanks for all the support that came after...

I am sorry to have kept people in suspense. Events/ life got away from me and I forgot about the thread.

DP returned to lots of work stress/busyness, which I was also having. We had a bit of a falling-out on the Tuesday, it became a major falling-out later in the week, about trust and applying judgements too quickly and obsessing about things (in my case) and being crap to others/ refusing to see others' points of view so that they end up obsessively worried (in his case).

The mystery part wasn't resolved until a week ago when I saw the colleague (who had clearly had an earful about me during the hiking) and he showed me photos of him and DP hiking in the right kind of forest with the right kind of geology (so it wasn't photos from their hiking trip the year before in a different area of the US).

DP and i are still pissed off with each other, a bit, but I apologised fully to him and he was kind of exasperated and sorry that i'd been worried but thinking I was unreasonable...

i never resolved the issue about the phone location, but I don't dare ask!

Sorry about the falling out but glad things are more or less ok.

tortoisehellOstrich · 18/07/2010 17:42

oh cripes.. I didn't know about the bear-eating thing. Sorry -that makes me seem even more like a mannerless troll. I feel like a twit now.

ISDP - thanks for your perspective.

I think if my DP were ever planning to cheat/ have an emotional affair, it would either be with his google phone, or with one of the hundreds of computers we have round the house. Or a bit of one of them....

it could be some XKCD-like comic... "my boyfriend's got an Amiga" and no that's not spanish for girlfriend........

tortoise someone just sent me the link for this - I never saw your comeback reply (despite looking for a while).

All these months later MN'ers are still wondering how you got on (I know we really should get out more), so I'm bumping this so it may pop up on some of their "watching" threads & they like me will be able to rest easy again knowing all is well & the hiking indeed happened.

naughty naughty stalky FB! what trouble it caused you!

OLD THREAD ALERT PEOPLE***

MyMamaToldMe · 14/10/2010 16:58

Maybe someone else went into the colleagues facebook account....

proudnscary · 14/10/2010 17:00

Err, isn't it just a few posts above yours..18 Jul 17.34, or is that not what you're talking about Mojo?

bumpybecky · 14/10/2010 17:07
