to sometimes think that I am the most feminist person here?

I have been on MN for only a short time and I have to say it is fun I like it here.

but I do despair: I sometimes seem to be the most feminist person here! Almost every thread seems to have women willingly subjugating themselves to their "D" Hs Ps Cs and ILs. Washin and Ironin and Pickin Up, being treated terribly but 'deserving' it (and DH rarely means it), happily changing names, wearing rings, and doing what the vicar tells them.

Or AIBU?

perpetuating I mean.

Just13moreyearstogo · 19/06/2010 20:16

Yes, Magalyxyz, and if other women protest they're caricatured as ugly harpies. Remember the personal abuse directed at Clare Short when she tried to get Page 3 banned? These days Page 3 looks quaint in comparison with the lads mags snuggled next to the children's comics.

Magalyxyz · 19/06/2010 20:41

Yes those magazines make me sick. I feel so angry on Ellen McArthur's behalf. After she sailed around the World solo (an incredible achievement and if she'd been a man they could have acknowledged that) they ran an article mocking her as 'that geezer bird'.

Magalyxyz · 19/06/2010 20:43

That was a bit of a tangent. I've had two very large glasses of wine. But what I mean is, that typifies their vieews.

IsGraceAvailable · 19/06/2010 20:45

I'm tickled pink that this thread is still near the top! (Not meaning pink in a marginalised-feminised sort of way, you understand.)

Why hasn't Dittany replied yet?

FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 20:47

She's shaving her head and darning her dungarees today. It's tough work.

IsGraceAvailable · 19/06/2010 20:52

Sheesh, I thought she had a man in to do the darning.

FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 20:53

Does she let a man in?

Magalyxyz · 19/06/2010 21:02

Ah stop it with your cliches felatio. I really don't like your screen name btw

FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 21:07

I am joking, you know!

scottishmummy · 19/06/2010 21:09

my what a big feminist heid you have.you despair of the sisters doing what they are told by "D Hs Ps Cs and ILs" .so you thought you'd rock up and tell em sistas where they are going wrong.unlike you

nice

ContentedVanilla · 19/06/2010 21:12

I don't see why cooking, cleaning, laundry, tidying up, ironing, childcare etc are thought of as demeaning. They are important things that need doing. People who do them should be respected for doing them. They are jobs that we do for other people so it might seem like we subjugate ourselves by doing them, but when a man goes out to work he is also doing work for someone (unless he is the top boss), and anyone who works in a service industry is doing work to service other people's needs so aren't they subjugating themselves as well? Shouldn't all jobs be respected?

I've seen Women in this country purposly(sp) blind themselves; in Holloway.

I've seen Women fight battles and walk miles to get eye care for their children.

So no OP.

You are not the "best" Feminist on here.

The fact that you even asked the question puts you on my zero in a 1 to 10.

edam · 19/06/2010 23:07

Eve - some of us choose to be role models for our sons, too. No point educating girls that they can do anything they wish if you don't let boys in on this too.

I was pretty sure he's a bloke - never crossed my mind to put the construction on it that you just have, Dittany!

Don't you think that men can subscribe to the feminist ideals as well though?

ninah · 19/06/2010 23:48

oh i assumed op was a man too, hence the claim

EveWasFramed10 · 20/06/2010 08:19

Point well taken, edam.

Blackduck · 20/06/2010 11:25

Dittany, will start a thread soon(ish) about 'Reclaiming the F word' - have you read it?
