Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from ApocalypseCheese, CheerfulYank, Anyfucker, HairExtensions, gomummy, tired mum and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

CheerfulYank · 12/09/2010 01:16

I like all of those names! Some from my list I actually wasn't keen on, but those are nice. I know names like Lily and Emily are popular, but it's for a reason-because they're pretty! :) I know two great Isaacs and come to think of it, even though he's overshadowed by the terror of a Dylan I mentioned earlier, I do know a very sweet little Dillon. :) Do your DC have your surname? (Sorry if that's nosy, I just wanted to get a feel for the whole name :) )

Tea, glad it went well! I sent you some vibes.

gomummy · 12/09/2010 13:53

Glad your day went well, Tea, and well done to your STBXH too. Good for you being ready to assert yourself though, as I suspect that will still be needed with MIL.

Tiredmum I thought you had forgotten me! Grin

Cheerful in your line of work, it must have been hard to pick a name as I'll bet you associate most names with DCs you know! I know when pregnant my DH really liked a (perfectly nice) name that I had to veto as I could not think of anything but the little terror that I know by that name!

Elmo I must ask from your list - how does one pronounce "Cian"?

CheerfulYank · 12/09/2010 15:45

I think (and I only know this because he was a character in a romance novel I read Blush ) that Cian is sort of like "KEY-en"?

It is hard to choose names because I know so many children! DH loves Alexander, but one of the toughest kids I ever had was named that, and so far I just can bring myself to truly consider it for a future DS. But maybe in time... :)

I actually did start a thread in baby names with the front runners for the baby we're going to ttc this fall. Blush I had such a hard time picking DS's name that I want to be prepared! :)

So...my grandmother is not doing well. They're not sure what's going on, mini-strokes or something, but she's just been steadily losing ground for the last year. She was staying here in Minnesota at her summer cabin and leaving for Michigan later this week, so DS and DH and I are visiting right now. (Lovely 5 hour drive yesterday, and another today-we've got to go back since DH and I both have to work tomorrow...I might need some good vibes!) It's just so hard to see her like this-she was always so sharp (kind of mean sometimes, honestly) and now it's like she doesn't know what's going on. And she's in her early 70's only, my FIL is actually older than she is. It's so hard too because my Dad is very gruff and steady (the strong silent type :) ) and I can tell that he's just shaken by the whole thing, which is so tough to see. He turned 50 earlier this week (which is really quite young nowdays) and I think he's having issues with that too. Sigh...I know I need to just be tough and deal with everything and help out however I can, but I just really want to be a little girl again and blissfully ignorant of everything. Is that so wrong?

Anyway, hope everyone is having a great weekend.

elmofan · 12/09/2010 17:08

Hi Smile

Gomummy yes its pronounced Key-en as cheerful has said Smile
I found my old baby name book last night tiredmum so if you would like to stick with "j" in the dc's names i could list all the names out of my book beginning with j or any other letter if you like .

cheerful :( sending you good wishes for your grandmothers health x

Tea - glad your day with MIL went well . Its nice to see your STBXH is standing up to her so you dont have to .

CheekyLittleSox · 12/09/2010 19:30

Alfies a nice name - :)

Tiredmumno1 · 12/09/2010 21:01

Cheerful its ok to feel like that, being young you never have a care in the world

Cheeky cant have alfie Grin thats my nephews name lol.

Hope everyone is ok?

teaandcakeplease · 12/09/2010 22:43

Fly by on way to bed, so sad to hear about your news Cheerful. It is ok to feel like that Sad and understandable ((hugs))

How's the bump Tiredmum?

OP posts:
gomummy · 12/09/2010 23:05

Oh Cheerful I know exactly what you're saying. We travelled to visit my GP's a couple of weeks ago and my grandmother (who has also recently had a stroke) is not doing well at all, I will be surprised if she is with us for Christmas, tbh. :( She also used to be quite sharp, but is now saying things that don't make sense. It is hard, I am never sure how to respond, don't want her to be embarrassed or hurt. for you, it is sad and can be hard to deal with. My DH (who is older than your dad!) says that feeling is an unpleasant reminder that we're no longer the carefree generation, that we're the middle one now, that makes it a little rough to handle. Apparently it's even worse when you become the oldest generation.

So Tiredmum what's the short-list so far?

Oooh Elmo, a baby name book! Never had one. Probably never could have named DS if I did! Did you go through and highlight all your favourites? Blush Ok, that's probably just how I'd handle it, lol!!

gomummy · 14/09/2010 00:54

Hi Ladies, I have a thread in AIBU, would love your opinions if you have time...

linky

CheerfulYank · 14/09/2010 00:59

Is there any part of our lives that doesn't seem to be exactly the same, gomummy?! So sorry to hear about your grandmother. :( It's the same deal here, just saying things that don't make sense, etc. I worry because she lives alone in a big house, but my aunt is just down the block so hopefully things will be ok. We'll just have to deal with things as they come I suppose. Sigh...it's so hard to be an adult sometimes, isn't it?

Yes, tiredmum, do tell us the short list! :)

I had the busiest day; DS' daycare lady has been going slowly crazy with the older children at her daycare, so she asked if I would please please please consider taking a few of them to my house a couple of days a week. Not one to resist such a plea (or the opportunity to cut down on DS' daycare bills, even part time it's a strain) I said sure. So I had a couple of rambunctious little 7 year old boys for a few hours today. They were lovely actually-kept DS busy running around playing soccer in the backyard. :) I'm going to have a few girls on Wednesday...what does one do with 9 year old girls? I have a jewelrey making kit and some lame Jonas Brothers DVD...guess that will do for a bit! :)

CheerfulYank · 14/09/2010 01:01

Xpost...will check out your link instanter :)

gomummy · 14/09/2010 02:49

Yes, yes it is Cheerful.

On the girls, I have a vague memory of a wonderful cupcake decorating session a friend's mum did with us around that age, and lots of time spent making things we used to call friendship bracelets...

teaandcakeplease · 14/09/2010 08:17

Over here there's a company called Baker Ross that you can buy such cool things from and then decorate like tiara's. If this was a regular thing the possibilities are endless Cheerful Smile

CheerfulYank · 14/09/2010 20:17

Oooh, I'll have to check that out, tea. We don't have it here I don't think, but if I had it sent it would add to the appeal. "And this came all the way from England..." :o The cupcake decorating sounds good gomummy, I will have to do that soon! I have a brownie/cookie hybrid mix that looks delicious, I think we'll see how that goes tomorrow. :)

gomummy · 14/09/2010 21:37

LOL, it's great Cheerful, if it's the Cookie-Brownie that I make, everyone always wants the recipe and it's so easy! :)

anonymousbird · 16/09/2010 13:33

So, is this where I find Jamie and Jools' new baby then? Anyway, I thought it was Buddy BEAR, not Buddy Bench.....

Tiredmumno1 · 16/09/2010 13:57

Hi everyone Smile

gomummy · 16/09/2010 14:06

Morning to all! :)

CheerfulYank · 16/09/2010 15:45

Hi everyone!

So Jamie's had his latest then? I'll be back after a poke around on google :)

anonymousbird · 16/09/2010 15:49

Jamie has named his new son Buddy Bear.
I kid you not.
See the thread on the front page.

Sorry didn't mean to upset or offend, was just mucking about with the play on words to Buddy Bench...
