Well, Tiredmum, guess now we know what the movie "While you were sleeping" is about!

Yes well done Tea for the "rise above it all" approach. Sometimes SO so so difficult to do though! Helps just to chat about things sometimes. your having friends like that to turn to.

Welcome Shrieking. What's your drink of choice?

You're popular with me, tea. All right, so:

a)Must not be utter dbag
b)must be a pilot so can fly gomummy and me for visits
c)can cook
d)well hung

Well. The first three I can figure out in a conversation, the last I'm afraid will require a little sexual harassment. Well, if I must I must. Sigh... (rolls up sleeves and readies herself to wade into a sea of pilots )

How is everyone?

CheerfulYank · 16/06/2010 02:32

Oooh, wild roses gomummy. How loverly!

TOMATOQUEEN39 · 16/06/2010 14:36

Oooh, what I wouldn't give for a cool pint of draft guiness. It seems like I've been bf FOREVER. Am now dreaming of alcohol when I really should be getting some food now that dd is down for a nap. Got some chocolate in the fridge (altho I don't know if it goes well with disaranno!) Hello to all and sympathies to cheeky [offers some choccie as it's got good wotsitsnames to make you feel better - that's why I eat it of course].

Tiredmumno1 · 16/06/2010 15:49

Om nom nom, ta tomato , that choccie was tasty.

I remember that feeling Tomato. Then you miss it when bf is over! Oh and doesn't chocolate go with everything? DH says I am the only person on earth who'll eat it with lemonade! lol

CheerfulYank · 16/06/2010 18:04

So. I'm today.

I work at a movie theater (cinema don'tya know ) part time in the evenings. We live in a very small town and we only have two screens and can only seat about 200-215 people total (something like that). We sell tickets and popcorn for really good prices and generally have a good turnout and all that. Anyway, every so often when a big movie comes out we do a midnight show, and it's a huge deal (because again, our town's really little and nothing ever happens here ). We make banners and hang fliers around town and do trivia games, etc. Everyone always turns up, usually in costume, and has a great time.

Anyway, we were going to have one for Twilight: Eclipse. We worked really hard to make a banner and everything and get all this cool stuff. We were half sold out of advanced tickets (people start lining up hours in advance before we actually open the doors, btw) and then we got the notice. The frickin distribution company pulled it on us. They're not going to give us a print the night it opens because we don't make as much money as the bigger theaters.

It sucks. I'm really sad. I mean, I get it from a business standpoint, but we work really hard and are proud of our theater (sorry, I know that's lame) and we like giving the people in our town something different to do. Plus the theater's hardly holding on some days as it is, and if they keep giving us movies a few weeks after they open no one's going to come because they'll have seen them already.

I realize in the grand scheme of things this is not even kind of a big deal, but I just hate it when people pull shit on the little guys just because they can. Grrrr!

Signed, Notsocheerfulyank

gomummygo · 16/06/2010 18:12

Sorry to hear that Cheerful. Plus, the hype around Twilight: Elipse has been huge, would be a great thing for your theatre. Spent much of my life advocating for "small towns," I do get why you're upset.

I'm terrible with time zones but thinking you're still quite early for a drink...but

CheerfulYank · 16/06/2010 18:19

It's just after noon here so...bottoms up!

I just...I just feel like it "means more" to us than bigger theaters, you know? They make money no matter what they do.

I can't properly articulate what I mean...something about small towns and movie magic and our area being hit hard by the recession and people needing harmless escapism. So, cobble that together into a sentence and see what you get!

gomummygo · 16/06/2010 18:42

Yes I do understand about it meaning more, absolutely. It is so hard to get big conglomerates to see/care about that though. Cobble it into a sentence?

You have to live in a small town to understand it's dynamics; the way the locals all share in the same trials, tribulations and joys - like when a factory shuts down, and 1/4 of the town faces the same job loss. You also have to live there to appreciate the beauty and magic in the way its' people will pull together almost as a single living entity when tragedy strikes such as a natural disaster or a family experiencing a horrible accident. It's the same bond though, that is being celebrated when everyone comes out for a county fair -- yes the event is great, but the sense of community in sharing in something that is joyful with your almost-extended-family is better. Sure, it's a blessing that everyone pulls together when times are difficult, and it's very special to have that. Just once in a while though, it's nice for them to share in something lighthearted, to forget about their individual troubles and the town's collective challenges.

(End of soliloqy, sorry)

Tiredmumno1 · 16/06/2010 19:09

Oh poor you cheerful, is there nothing you can do at all, petitions or anything. some of these big wigs dont give a toss, sorry to hear you worked so hard.

shall i get gomummy to pop over n sort them out
