Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who enter the Gazebo and sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from ApocalypseCheese, CheerfulYank, Anyfucker, HairExtensions, gomummy, tired mum and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up !

gomummy · 05/08/2010 17:36

OK, here's me:

  1. What does your "comfort" outfit consist of? Jeans and cotton tops that tie at the back of the waist.
  1. What hair style/colour/cut did you have that was the biggest mistake? Childhood - 80's really big bangs with enough hairspray to stop a truck. Photos are disturbing to me.
  1. What is your favourite thing to do with your DC(s)? Cuddle up reading books outside on the glider bench.
  1. What was the most interesting thing you received this week in the post/mail? A handwritten letter asking me to give a eulogy when the time comes.
  1. What was the worst present you ever received? A book on how to fix my life. It was an anniversary gift from ex-DH and I didn't know my life was broken, lol!
  1. What is your favourite late-night snack? Prawns.
  1. What was your most loved childhood toy? Didn't have one.
  1. What was the last book you read where you learned something useful? Twas very political, best not answer this one.
  1. When you set the table for dinner, what does it look like? Casual, a bit "tuscan" style usually.
  1. If you could travel anywhere in the world for three weeks without worrying about the cost, where would it be and why? Easy one for me, definitely over to the UK! See ya then Tiredmum!
CheerfulYank · 05/08/2010 17:42
  1. My blue velour pajama pants and a sweatshirt...I'm so fasionable.
  1. Blue highlights! In my wild youth They bled all over my head so I had moldy looking patches of blue-green all over my (at the time) platinum hair. Then I tried everything under the sun to get the blue out, which made half of it break off. Sigh...
  1. Hmm. Play-doh is fun, going to the park too.
  1. A One Tree Hill dvd from Netflix
  1. My DH made me a plant hanging thing that was sooo ugly. I feel so disloyal even writing that!
  1. Lately it's been tortilla chips dipped in beans and cheese
  1. I had a doll named Johnny that I adored. He was one of those ulta-realistic looking newborns. I carried him everywhere for years.
  1. I read a book called Nurtureshock that had an interesting chapter about talking to your DC about race. They said that most parents assume if that all they need to do is not say anything negative, but apparently that's not the case. So this morning I was talking to DS very earnestly saying, "And sometimes people don't like other people just because they have different colors of skin. And that's just silly, because you don't know whether or not you'd like someone before you know them." He replied, "I know! Just like I don't know if Daddy is going to make me a robot or not." Well...I tried.
  1. It's summertime, so lots of fresh produce as it's in season. My actual table has blue jars in the middle with pebbles and shells in them. I like nature-y stuff.
  1. Canada to hang out with Tiredmum and Gomummy! Otherwise I'd like to go to Scotland or Greece.

My questions:

  1. What is your favorite song lyric right now? Mine is Jason Mraz's: "Sometimes the sun shines down on other people's houses and not mine/...If there's a light in everybody/Send out your ray of sunshine." It's much better sung than written.

  2. What did you say "oh I'll never do that when I'm a parent" about...and then have it turn out to be a total lie? For me it's the amount of TV I let DS watch, and the fact that I don't care if he sleeps with us occasionally. I was really adamant about those things before I had him and it all went out the window afterwards.

CheerfulYank · 05/08/2010 17:48

Oh as far as number 10 goes I know you don't live in Canada Tiredmum. I just meant we should visit at the same time!

gomummy · 05/08/2010 18:06
CheerfulYank · 05/08/2010 18:12

Oh I love that song too! I don't even try to fight the tears when it come on. And also "you're gonna miss this/you're gonna want this back/You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast..." I try to sing that to myself when DS is being naughty.

And I totally agree about the plastic stuff. Where does it come from? We have bins and bins of the crap and I swear I didn';t buy most of it.

gomummy · 05/08/2010 18:18

Are you serious Cheerful? I always sing "You're gonna miss this" when DS is being naughty!!!! I have never told anyone, not even DH. I am floored.

CheerfulYank · 05/08/2010 18:30

No way!!!!!!

gomummy · 05/08/2010 18:37

I am seriously freaked out by that. No one on earth knows I do that; well until now that is!

CheerfulYank · 05/08/2010 18:46

That is honestly beyond bizarre. I've never told anyone about it either except maybe DH. I have a chalkboard hanging in my kitchen and the lyrics were on it during a particularly trying month DS and I had.

gomummy · 05/08/2010 19:00

It really is eerie.

DS knows it so well that on the more challenging days, he will sometimes say "turn on CD with 'alright', mummy."

CheerfulYank · 05/08/2010 19:16

I wonder what else we have in common...this is so weird! Cool, though!

teaandcakeplease · 05/08/2010 19:17

Maybe I should try that song my DD has pushed me beyond the edge of reason today. I've actually started a thread for some tips.

OP posts:
gomummy · 05/08/2010 20:09

I know Cheerful, I was wondering how similar "a day in the life" would be!

The song helps Tea, it really does! Not with behaviour, but definitely with perspective for me. Darius Rucker, "You're gonna miss this." Will look up your thread to see if I have anything helpful to add.

Hey Tea you must do the quiz!

teaandcakeplease · 05/08/2010 20:24
