they have had a lovely day today - a friend over all day, a water fight with water bombs and water pistols followed by fluffy dressing gowns and hot pizza, played on the Wii with their friend, then watched the world cup and had treats (choc chip muffins and pringles ) to munch during the game

for some reason they have behaved atrociously for the past hour and a half

ds1 was so rude and disrespectful we told him he needed to be quiet so we could watch the football, or take himself off to bed - several warnings

he snarled "Oh FINE I'm off to bed then" to which we replied "Night then, don't forget to brush your teeth"

when he realised we weren't going to invite him back down again he threw an enormous screaming tantrum and unrolled all the toilet rolls down the stairs

ds2 then went to bed and jumped on the top bunk (which he has been warned about endlessly) and has broken it, so he is sleeping on the floor

they are both crying and wailing and ds1 is still being rude as well

ds2 is supposed to be going on a jud course tomorrow morning, neither of us want to bloody well get up early and take him now

I am upset and furious

and dh is ashen and silent again, I know he feels rotten because he lost it and screamed at them when he saw the toilet rolls

we are shit parents, aren;t we?

um

then you know very little about me vegasmum

sometimes people's senses of humour reflect their experiences in different ways

mine has a gallows slant to it, for sure

but speculating about my lack of life experiences is a bit facile

Cantsupinate, come here

Greensleeves · 13/06/2010 20:33

"if you had worked in some of the areas i have you would not see any humour in some of the things discussed including the thread title"

this is an unsubstantiated - and unsubstantiatable - and pointless remark

blimey greeny is the most anti violent person i know

SarfEasticated · 13/06/2010 20:39

I'm wondering how this thread will be referred to in the future, Greeny'gate', Bag'em'gate', Dump-them-in-the river'gate' or greenygrim'gate'...

princessmel · 13/06/2010 20:40

Not nice thread title.

I agree with other posters. You're not shit. The kids had a long, tiring, busy, day ( a fab sounding day btw) and are shattered. That is all.

I find myself saying after days like that 'we've had such a nice day and now all I'm going to remember is you having a tantrum at the end' etc etc. Of course I don't just remember that but that's how it seems at the time.

SarfEasticated · 13/06/2010 20:41

or maybe the thread that taught us all the word 'emboutillage'

AnnieLobeseder · 13/06/2010 20:42

mamasparkle - yes, yes it is. Welcome on board.

Greensleeves · 13/06/2010 20:43

thinking about it, if my ds1 was being a nuisance and I said "Look, quit it or I will string you up by your toenails and throw penguins at you"

he would laugh and know that it was a gentle warning and I was not really cross

if I said in a calm and measured tone "ds1, if I have to ask you to stop doing that again you will have to leave the room because you are making it impossible for others to relax"

he would know I was serious and would generally comply

go figure

v.clever.

CoupleofKooks · 13/06/2010 20:49

i think jokey threats can be useful - they keep the mood light but do allow us to let off steam and express our anger
the child will laugh but also get the message - mummy didn't like that
but she likes me enough so that we can laugh about it a bit

mamasparkle · 13/06/2010 20:50

Cheers Annie!

Greensleeves · 13/06/2010 20:51

kooky my two are developing quite a razor wit as it happens

ds1 is ascerbic and sarcastic

ds2 is just fucking pugnacious and belly-laughy

I don't where we would BE as a family without grim humour

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 13/06/2010 20:53

i've seen ds1 in action he is a master of sarcasm
well no surprises there really
i bet he will beat you at your own game and you will be begging for mercy "ds1 PLEASE don't use such revolting turns of phrase. Would you laugh at paedophilia? I feel sick"

Greensleeves · 13/06/2010 20:54

yes I think they are going to get their own back

ds2 today at the judo tournament

"Will you stop KISSING me for heaven's sake Mummy"

Gs. Ive read many of your posts and think I have a 'sense' of you and what you're about and have always felt that you come across as a bloody good mother.

A good mother with a warped sense of humour, but a good one all the same.

SarfEasticated · 13/06/2010 21:04

Are you all going to start hugging or something?

CoupleofKooks · 13/06/2010 22:16

yeah let's go back to poking and mocking her

SarfEasticated · 13/06/2010 22:25

No I like it, just don't know where to look

Rollmops · 13/06/2010 22:29

Kook, do not flatter Greenie..., I doubt very much I've ever come across any of her posts, then again, she's quite clearly much too dull to remember.
If only the title of this little thread had had a pinch of wit or had it been even moderately clever, I very much doubt anyone would've so much as blinked. But it has not.

Goblinchild · 13/06/2010 22:30

Is that insult the same as being poked in the eye by a wet fish? Or are you just pickled?
I'll have a gin.

Maylee · 13/06/2010 22:33

Greensleeves, am on your side here.

Was clear from the outset that you do not actually intend to bag up your children and throw them in the river - was just a way of describing the extent of your frustration.

You don't seem like bad parents to me (though who's to judge....), just had a bad day. We all have bad days. Take it on the chin and start again tomorrow.

OrmRenewed · 13/06/2010 22:36

Oh FFS! I have only had to read the last few responses to realise some people took offence.

Oh dear. I won't tell you what I've said about my DC when they've been particularly irritating.
