where I know some, if not all, of my ex-in-laws will be??

Background, XH is a KNOB of the first order, he's said a load of crap, behaved pretty shitty to me.

So, one of his more charming comments was that I'd never find anyone else.

And I've got a new bloke who is lovely.

All his family go to this wee local town every Sunday night - think getting dressed up and cruising round in cars, cars which must be spotless. Its snob central, judgy pants heaven.

And the new bloke drives an Aston Martin Vantage V12.

So, AIBU? We wouldn't need to get out of the car or speak to them, just be seen...

knockraven - go and be smug

I am genuinely mystified though that there are places where people get dressed up and go and drive around in their cars! And adults as well, not just the teenagers!

NetworkGuy · 06/06/2010 09:07

No, don't be put off going in that car, to somewhere you would like to go, just on the basis of ex-ILs likely to be there.

I'm no car fan, don't even drive, but seeing the spec of that 6 litre beastie, just know it will turn some heads, so why the hell not enjoy the opportunity, and whilst there may be a few 'shallow' comments floating about in this thread, and put the other way (about not going just because the ex-ILs are likely to be there), I'd expect you to get lots of 'do it, don't be scared or put off.

Enjoy yourselves, but steer clear of any argument even if provoked. Free country, you can go on whatever roads you want, and so on, if there is something said, but after that, don't get drawn in further (perhaps it would never happen, but would be better to know you can resist being sucked in).

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:23

There are genuinely coastal towns in the north of Northern Ireland where people get dressed up to the nines and go out, predominantly on a Sunday night, and "scobe about" in their cars, park them up and then go and parade themselves, buy an ice cream and then go home - honestly lol.

And yes, I am aware it seems a bit weird, but hey we're backward over here pmsl.

Now that I have actually written it down, I am aware of how ridiculous it seems

Shineon- are you on FB?

toccatanfudge · 06/06/2010 09:29

knock she is on FB - so she can have a nose

Alouiseg · 06/06/2010 09:30

It is a bit weird but if that's what you do over there..........

If you can't beat them join them

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:33

tocc - can you tell her who I am?

OP posts:
BouncingTurtle · 06/06/2010 09:39

I don't think you should do it. You haven't got anything to prove.

There is a bloke near where I live that has an AM DB7, seen him a couple of times near my street - it's not a rich area either!

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:42

So then, would be be OK to go in my car?

What is it that makes it unreasonable that its a fancy car?

OP posts:
Quattrocento · 06/06/2010 09:42

The Italians call it a passeggiata.

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:44

Quattro - so I'm a bit Italian then??

PMSL

toccatanfudge · 06/06/2010 09:44

but bouncing - they're both petrolheads. His car his a serious petrolheads car. Why shouldn't they do something together that they would both want to do?

The only reason the OP has misgivings about going is because of the ex/ex family being there. Otherwise she would have gone without thinking about it.

oh yes you look very Italian knock LOL

damn - I need to get to church.........hey some people think that's a bit silly, but I still go

TiggyR · 06/06/2010 09:46

My only concern is that he (AM Man) might feel you are using him for show. Especially if he knows this 'cruising' area and what is expected.

(Actually do proper grown-ups honestly do this, or just the kids in their pimped up Fiestas? Cos it sounds a bit to me.)

Maybe a wait a few dates. You'll get the opportunity to let ExP know in more subtle but meaningful ways soon enough, I'm sure.

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:47

Ok shiney- I think I just sent you a friend request- otherwise some random person is going to be very confused lol

OP posts:
TiggyR · 06/06/2010 09:47

Like, next time he comes to see the DCs get them to tell him Mummy's new boyfriend is James Bond! He won't be able to resist asking questions.

sparklefrog · 06/06/2010 09:50

Not read both threads, but Jujusdad, your post has had me howling with laughter.

TakeLovingChances · 06/06/2010 09:50

Knock - never mind about cruising around town in front of your ex-ILs, I want you to bring that car with you when we have our NI meet-up!

My DH is 30-years-old and drives a Volvo estate car I have read what the MN consensus is on Volvo drivers, but it's not true.

Enjoy your new man.

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:50

Tiggy - I did order a martini shaken not stirred in the bar - then fell about and said naw I'll have a fizzy water - how boring

Shine - his initials are B L

OP posts:
iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:53

TLC - he said he's going to turn up here in a cap and black suit, and claim to be my chauffeur lol.

I am loving having a bloke who wants to drive everywhere, who is almost as good a driver as me and who has a car which is just a flying machine and sticks to the road like shit to a blanket - its awesome

OP posts:
TiggyR · 06/06/2010 09:54

I hope he has a sticker in his window that says 'My other car is a Honda Civic.'

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 09:56

tiggy - that's class, guess what I reckon I could make???

Sprayed coffee everywhere lol

OP posts:
glasgowlass · 06/06/2010 10:14

Oh I am loving the Chauffeur idea knock! (and the sticker tiggy)

I think you should go for it, to hell with what anyone thinks, especially your ex and his family! As long as you are happy then that is all that matters.

I had a wee look at him on FB! very handsome!

iamfabregasted · 06/06/2010 10:17

Awh glas - thanks, I think he's gorgeous.
