JjandtheBeanlovesUnicorns · 16/08/2010 16:29

ill admit dd had them when she had less hair, not enough to put up but a covering, i thought they looked brilliant, now in pics im not so sure, however, some babies look really stupid, i guess im biased as it was dd.

the ones with hair attached are wrong, very very wrong.

LaaDeDa · 16/08/2010 16:32

Not to my taste at all and i'm sure they must hurt their poor little heads - i always get a pressure headache when i've worn a hairband.

And, to the person who asked what you do when they have loads of hair but are too small to get their hair cut: my ds had loads of hair from birth and had his first hair cut at 4 months. It was actually much easier to get his hair cut at that age cos he didn't know what was going on and i could just hold him. It's harder now he's 2 1/2 and wriggles about. Grin

MassiveBumperlicious · 16/08/2010 16:32

Oh dear, the vitriol and judgement on here!

I think some are quite cute, and I'm fairly sure we have a picture of DD in one around 3 months. And if you're docking 50 IQ points for that, that should bring me down to about 95 thanks very much. Nor am I chavvy or the like. I might even crochet one tonight for impending DD2 now Grin

And I have just crochet a hat with teddy bear ears and booties with teddy bear paws. What are children for if not to torture with hideous cute clothes? Grin

poshsinglemum · 16/08/2010 16:33

i agree that this is a thinly vieled chav bashing thread.
i don't like the hairbands but babies look cute in whatever.

poshsinglemum · 16/08/2010 16:35

I love the baby hoodies with animal ears. sooooo cute and when else will we get the opportunity?

RonansMummy · 16/08/2010 16:41

big thumbs up to the teddy bear outfit! i dress my ds as a ladybird! (bought because my sister is scared of ladybirds, but he looks sooo cute in it he wears it a lot) lol, poor boy!

ValiumSingleton · 16/08/2010 16:42

I got into a big row on an American forum over this years ago! I was literally chased off the board. I told them it was not done in Europe (am I right?! I don't think it is) and oh.my.GOD.

nomorebooze · 16/08/2010 16:45

I'm not talking about small children with lots of hair!!!!!!!!! just poor little bald, lacking hair babies with the horrible things round there bonces! Biscuit

Scatteredbraincells - they should be done for child cruelty, thats horrible, poor wee thing [shocked]

The only thing i really dislike about some of the bear costumes is when there in 'bear' brown colour [thinking bo selecta] just cant do it, very wrong! lol, Smile

who cares, i get bored of seeing kids dressed in boden stripes and those ickky raincoats. dullsville like their parents

RonansMummy · 16/08/2010 17:19

i do find it hard clothes shopping for ds, its all jeans and samey t-shirts, nothing really jumps out at me except fancy dress! we also dress him up as superman :-)

hairbands do look sweet on babies WITH HAIR! :-)

lauzb · 16/08/2010 17:45

Lol'ing at this thread - those things are sooooo bloody ugly.

If your baby girl looks like a boy, then dress her in pink - but why, oh why, put one of those stupid things on to hold back all three strands of hair...?!

OP, YANBU - AT ALL!

Rocklover · 16/08/2010 18:27

I was given one for newborn dd by my MIL, it got conveniently lost in the 2 weeks after it was received. Bloody vile things that just look stupid.

These are ridiculous: www.flickr.com/photos/jardesigns/4388651659/. Why???

cinpin · 16/08/2010 18:34

Everbody should dress their babies like they want if we all had the same taste all babies would be dressed the same.

2rebecca · 16/08/2010 19:10

Very few parents seem to have the confidence or desire to leave their baby girl's head/hair alone and not stick daft stuff in it.
So what if some folk can't tell it's a girl? That's because young clothed babies not dressed in pink or blue have a fairly unisex appearance.
They get gender stereotyped soon enough.

shellio · 16/08/2010 19:35

Headbands are gross! And they are probably crushing the poor wee mites brains as well! I havent seen any babies wearing them in ages thankfully. Should be banned along with the pierced ears haa. Bet their mums wear clothes a la Victoria Pollard! Loverleey!

emy72 · 16/08/2010 19:45

YANBU I dislike them too.

My DD2 (aged 11 months) has loads of hair though and a massive tuft right in the middle of her head that goes right down her head into her eyes. I don't dare cut it (as I am useless and she would end up looking ridiculous - been there before) so I pin it with two small clips (one is not enough!).

themachinist · 16/08/2010 19:50

yanbu - totally fekking ridiculous!

clouddragon · 16/08/2010 19:56

I hate the things but not as much as the snobbery on this thread.

Rocklover · 16/08/2010 21:31

I don't think I'm a snob for not liking them, they just look stupid.

sleepingsowell · 16/08/2010 21:44

I agree - there's nothing snobby about not liking something, specially something so ugly and disfiguring as these bizarre things!

SE13Mummy · 16/08/2010 22:10

In the Rough Guide to pregnancy (Kaz Cooke) she describes bald babies wearing hairbands as looking like 'demented Easter eggs'!

Neither of my DDs have worn hairbands but then again, DD2 is 14 months old and, aside from a ringlet above each ear, she has almost no hair. A hairband would make her look completely ridiculous.

proudmam · 26/01/2011 14:41

Just had to join Mumsnet to post a reply to this.

I am currently searching the web for hairbands for my 5 month old (totally bald!)baby girl. My baby girl is profoundly deaf and I need the bands to stop her pulling her hearing aids out and putting them straight into her mouth. The batteries in the hearing aids are toxic.

So before bashing all those people who put bands on their babies, you should all stop and have a think. It is common for deaf and hard of hearing children to wear bands to keep hearing aids/cochlear implant bits and bobs safe and secure. I don't really care if it offends all your fashion sensibilities.

All babies are completely wonderful and beautiful no matter what.

MissyMorrison87 · 26/01/2011 14:56

completely agree. it looks really reallly stupid. What i hate even more is when mums put what little hair is there into a bobble to create a pineapple head look. just leave it to grow for god sake!!!!

GabbyLoggon · 26/01/2011 15:01

momo Hate is an overused word. Its a very strong word too. You dont hate babies. I dont hate brown bread with seeds in it. I dislike it. Feed it to the pigeons. cheers "Gabby"
