YANBU. My friend does this to her totally bald girl baby. She looks like a gift-wrapped potato.

borderslass · 26/05/2010 08:21

I did have one for dd2 but she had a full head of hair.

StealthPolarBear · 26/05/2010 08:28

If they're glued to their head, how do you get them off? Is it like removing a sticking plaster from their thin, delicate skin?

StealthPolarBear · 26/05/2010 08:29

or do you use nail varnish remover??

thumbwitch · 26/05/2010 08:40

love the description "gift-wrapped potato" - and also the "deranged Easter egg" further back on the thread

Galena · 26/05/2010 08:56

StealthPolarBear - it says you remove the glue with a 'simple wipe with a baby wipe' or some such guff.

I'm just really disturbed because the baby in the top right hand corner of that site looks disturbingly like DD (pic on profile). Has she a doppelganger, or have I unwittingly glued bows to her head and photographed her?!

EightiesChick · 26/05/2010 09:09

I don't like them. Sure they're a marker that the baby's a girl, but a) does that really matter? and b) it's at the cost of them wearing a silly-looking thing on their head.

Bena1 · 26/05/2010 09:38

They are so awful!!! Why do people do it?! I have a friend who has it on both her daughters and I just have to fake smile through out about how cute they look - they don't! They look hideous with those stupid headbands on their heads!

sockmonkey · 26/05/2010 10:43

LOL at gift wrapped potato.

I don't understand the bald baby/headband thing at all.
DS1 and DS2 were both born with lots of hair & long eyelashes and were often mitaken for girls. DD is bald as a coot and often gets called He, even when people know her name and she's dressed in pink.

the world is full of crazy people, but it makes life intersting I guess.

nomorebooze · 26/05/2010 11:19

cant breath properly from shock and laughter!!!!!! it takes the biscuit stick on bows, WTF. Seriously though you just wouldnt would you??????????? god them piccies are truly disturbing. Might as well stick parcel bows on there heads. xx

TheSleepingViolet · 26/05/2010 11:28

Ok each to their own, but not entirely sure I agree with sticking them to their heads!

TiggyR · 26/05/2010 12:22

at those stick-on bows. They are ludicrous - like a pea on a drum as my granny would have said.

mathanxiety · 26/05/2010 15:13

Why not just write 'girl' on a baby's forehead with a sharpie?

mumofafew · 26/05/2010 15:27

Awful and must be annoying on babys head as well

shubiedoo · 26/05/2010 15:30

I don't agree with glue?! but some mothers get so sick of the "what a cute boy" comments that they use hairbands out of desperation!

Suziewee · 26/05/2010 18:24

They are truly awful poor mites - psml at gift wrapped potato!! I can't bear jewellry on babies either - yuk yuk yuk.

93pjb · 26/05/2010 22:14

at stick on bows - Did you see this bit "The backing is formulated to hold InfantBow Glue and protects the bow from damage as well as increases the holding power."

Well that's okay then - glad to know the glue won't damage the bow. No mention of whether or not it damages the baby but don't sweat the details eh?

alipenguin · 26/05/2010 22:26

Ladies, I am new and thank f**k I am reading sense.

Bands on bald babies are hideous - not the babies and not when the babies have hair needing held back from their face....

I think the bands are evil but apparently I'm evil for saying that - have you ever seen the marks on the baldies after taking the things off? Its like torture.

I guess tho, it could be said that its preparing the little chavtastic beauties for the pain of womanhood and fashion when they hit 8 and need to wear as revealing threads as possible.

CrankyTwanky · 26/05/2010 22:42

Icky icky icky.

These are a pet peeve of mine.
Often sported by toddlers in pink pushchairs.
(And what is with those? Why would you buy a nasty buggy that can't be used if you have a subsequent boy. Are these people made of money. No. They clearly are not. Just stoopid.)

GoldenSnitch · 26/05/2010 22:42

DH just looked at me all perplexed as I spat orange squash everywhere when reading "Why not just write 'girl' on a baby's forehead with a sharpie?"

TiggyR · 26/05/2010 22:55

And what kind of god made all girl babies have less hair than boy babies, anyway?

mathanxiety · 26/05/2010 23:11

Well, a fair proportion of the boys are going to lose it all as worry and care push their heads up through.....

blossomx · 26/05/2010 23:33

I think on a newborn is a bit much... but my daughter is 4 months now, and I think she looks gorgeous with her pink headband its got a bow on it ... it came with a dress, I think its a bit silly to wear all the time, but i don't see anything wrong with it ... however piercing ears on a baby is definatly out of ORDER!

nooka · 27/05/2010 05:13

It's a bit extreme to hate the look, and I don't think it is particularly class determined but it does definitely look very silly. I like babies just to look like babies, so both of mine were in unisex babygrows for the first six months or so, and very lovely they looked too (well given that I generally think that babies look like aliens, perhaps not ). Why should it matter if other people know if your baby is male or female? There are so many years when your girls will have to have their hair up for nits which is a huge pain, so why start early when you really don't have to?

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 27/05/2010 05:41

Those bows.

My favourite bit from that website is "InfantBows were created from a generation of mothers who love to adorn their bald baby girls with stick on bows. Remember the scotch tape, jelly, and syrups?"

Mothers used to stick bows to their children using jelly (jam, I presume) and syrup? Seriously?
