to think its a disgrace that marks n spencers do not accept healthy start vouchers?

i think its disgusting.

as if they are saying, we are marks and spencers and are posh, therefore don't want you single parents shopping here with your "poor people's vouchers", piss off to asda, you are lowering the tone.

the look on the cashier's face when i tried to use my vouchers in there, snobby bitch.

maybe its cos they are not a proper supermarket, more of a department store. but yanbu if the cashier gave a snooty look then she is out of order for that, she should be apologetic and just explain like sorry we can't take it because we are not a proper supermarket, or whatever else, and be nice about it

do you not have to be on certain benefits to quaify for them? maybe M&S don't want that kind of customer

What are healthy start vouchers? Are they like luncheon vouchers?

YABU.

DP and I work and are not entitled to Healthy Start vouchers (rightly enough) and cannot afford to shop in M&S. If you're struggling financially and the government have given you these vouchers to help you out then you shouldn't be shopping in M&S for essential items. Sorry. It's really fucking expensive.

Get down to Asda/Tesco with the rest of us

If they are given to you because you are poor (really I have never even heard of them) what are you doing spending them in M&S?

Surely if you need the vouchers the most sensible thing to do would be to go and spend them where you got the best value for money which I cannot believe is M&S?

No no no hang on a minute!

One can only buy fresh fruit and veg with Healthy Start vouchers so I take the previous comment back and say:

why the FUCK not, if you live miles away from a farm or a gardeners market or even from an Asda should you not buy tins or fruit or veg from M&S if it's the nearest shop?

i usually spend them in asda / tesco etc but just happened to be in m&s and thought i would pick up some fruit while i was there, i am not a regular m&s shopper but i just found it snobby of them that they didnt accept them.

Why don't you write to them and ask why they are not part of the scheme? It may be because they don't think of themselves as a supermarket. Maybe the woman at the till didn't know what they were rather than being a snob?

Without wanting to sound like an uber-bitch but if you're that cash-strapped that the government are buying your fruit and vegetables for you, maybe you should be a bit more thoughtful about where you will get the best value for your vouchers instead of just thinking "oh I'm in M&S, I'll pick up stuff cos I'm here." I just happen to walk past a Waitrose in town. I'd LOVE to be able to think "oh I'll get my fruit from here just because I'm here" no, I have to walk on by to Asda/the greengrocers where I know the fiver in my purse will stretch.

I suppose it's easier to be carefree when it's not your money though.

YANBU to expect courtesy from a shop assistant, however if the state is paying for you to have some additional food then I do believe that it is only right that they should only be accepted in shops where you can get good value for money. It does sound as though more shops should accept them though.

Aldi and Lidl's fruit and vegetables are vile personified so they're doing you a favour by not accepting them
