i think its disgusting.

as if they are saying, we are marks and spencers and are posh, therefore don't want you single parents shopping here with your "poor people's vouchers", piss off to asda, you are lowering the tone.

the look on the cashier's face when i tried to use my vouchers in there, snobby bitch.

aibu?

i dont care what shop anyone goes in.
marks and spencers is a business, maybe the cost to them of accepting the vouchers then processing ect is just not cost effective so they don't take them. as a business that is primarily interested in making a profit i doubt if M&S care if you are on the dole, a stripper or a millionaire - this decision to not take the vouchers will ahve been purely a business one

LittleMrsHappy · 05/05/2010 21:37

cupcakes the only one I see on their fucking high horse is you!, your a bloody stale cupcake with that self righteous pathetic moaning attitude!

Your targeting the wrong people and being narrow minded with it also, not everyone on benefits are the daily wail stereotypes, you can get these vouchers if you earn under £16,500!

If you want to have a moan about people on benefits, go start another thread, you being incredibly rude and also making sweeping generalisations, about what you have seen yourself, Ive met countless of people who dont abuse any of their benefits to enable them back to work, and for work through the help of this scumbag money.

but yep its ok to have this wail attitude, because you witnessed it!

jessiealbright · 05/05/2010 21:37

LaurieFairyCake

If I were on the breadline I'd shop in Waitrose - their 'essentials' range is way better than Tesco/Asda.

Yeah, I bought a tube of tomato puree for 39p last week! Cheapest I can get it in either Tesco or Asda is 48p.

well rustybucket, lets just hope that you or your DH don't get run over by a bus tomorrow because as a suddenly single parent you might just find yourself having to put your hand out or else you and your kids might just starve. The sweeping generalistions made on this thread are mind blowing and it still sickens me to think that at the time when i needed to put my hand out for help, there were people like you who sneered down their noses. Shame on you and your attitude and I hope to God that you never ever ever have to rely on the state for help.

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:40

Please read what I said, LittleMrshappy. I have a problem with people abusing the benefits handed out to them. I think that makes me normal.

I also think it makes me normal to be a wee bitter when people on benefits whine that M&S won't accept their vouchers. Well boo-fucking-hoo!

I won't I have plenty of policies in place as I do not see it as the states job to support me.

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:43

Why are some people unable to distinguish about what exactly it is that I find distasteful about this whole thing?

Just to clarify;

Claiming benefits = fine. Welfare state, big thumbs up.

Claiming benefits and complaining that M&S do not accept benefits vouchers = wtf?

jessiealbright · 05/05/2010 21:43

How about we stop benefit claimants from buying pork, as well? Not fair on hard-working Jews and Muslims. Actually, let's go the full mile and prohibit buying non-halal meat.

[pauses]

Sorry, just got a call from an ethical vegetarian taxpayer.

He says it's not fair that people buy meat with his money.

Slippery slope, eh?

usualsuspect · 05/05/2010 21:45

Well actually I object to people buying celery with my tax ..

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:46

Jessiealbright, another misser of the point.

Big difference between buying a £5 joint of pork from Tescos and buying £12 joint of pork from M&S, no? If working families have to budget, and they do or else there would be no call for supermarkets like Lidl/Asda, then why can't people accept that those on benefits must also budget? We all budget, whether we can afford £50 p/w on food or £500.

GypsyMoth · 05/05/2010 21:46

lol rustybucket.....and you do what for a living??

jessiealbright · 05/05/2010 21:46

Imarriedafrog It is? Dammit, I chucked out the Waitrose receipt.

[goes off to note this down in Prices book]

LittleMrsHappy · 05/05/2010 21:49

Normal and bitter dont come in the same category, maybe the green eyed monster thru!
loads of shops accept them, as its at the retailers discretion!

For me the OP was not really complaining about the store not complaining about them, more so about the staffs attitude!

Im sic of this green eyed culture we have, and belittling low earners, the simple fact is this country survives on low wage earners, we all cant be high flying earners, the country would not survive with people on low income!

"BTW Anuerin Bevan is to be found on Google and not in the latest edition of Heat. "

Ooooooo, patronising much !

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:51

Usualsuspect, I'll say it again; it's not about individual items bought. It's about the cost. If you are receiving vouchers for £3.10 to help you buy fruit and vegetables, then you are in no position to be shopping in M&S. Sorry if that upsets the lentil-weavers.

LittleMrsHappy · 05/05/2010 21:52

"For me the OP was not really complaining about the store not complaining about them, more so about the staffs attitude!"

what the fuck at myself, corrected!

For me the OP was not really complaining about the store not accepting them, more so about the staffs attitude!

jessiealbright · 05/05/2010 21:52

No-one said people on benefits didn't have to budget, did they?

I think what people were objecting to (or at least what I was objecting to) was you deciding what budget was appropriate.

Your problem appears to be people shopping in M&S, at all. Never mind whether there's an offer on, or whether someone cut costs somewhere else, or what.

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:52

Green-eyed? What exactly is it that I'm green-eyed about? Fair enough I might not earn much more than a lot of people earn on benefits but I earn my own crust. What is there to be jealous of? Are you saying that I aspire to be on benefits or what?

oceryo · 05/05/2010 21:53

If it was Harrods that would be one thing. But M&S is just an ordinary high street store, isn't it?

usualsuspect · 05/05/2010 21:53

I'm about as far removed from a lentil-weaver as you can get ..you are wrong ..you cannot dictate where your tax money is spent ..its 3 quid get over it..

LittleMrsHappy · 05/05/2010 21:54

As a previous poster said, and I cant also vouch for it, M&S, do value items also, at the same price off supermarkets, better quality also!

Still more value for money at supermarkets, with say a extra two apples but still!

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:54

No, the OP was definitely complaining about the store not accepting them, the bit about the rude staff was an afterthought. Try not seeing only what you want to see...
