i think its disgusting.

as if they are saying, we are marks and spencers and are posh, therefore don't want you single parents shopping here with your "poor people's vouchers", piss off to asda, you are lowering the tone.

the look on the cashier's face when i tried to use my vouchers in there, snobby bitch.

Smallishsheep, of course no-one thinks anything bad of people using the vouchers as they should be used. People DO get annoyed when people abuse systems that are put in place to help them.

I only ever had to fill out a form stating "dress" or "shirt", maybe the rules changed, this was a fair few years ago. One girl even came in with her careers advisor and cajoled the advisor into letting her get a boob tube (ffs) with her voucher. The careers advisor just laughed and mock rolled her eyes and let her do it. Systems get abused. It happens.

HoorahHilda · 05/05/2010 21:12

Cupcakes you sound like you have a chip on your shoulder

runnybottom · 05/05/2010 21:14

Who gives a fuck where she shops? But also, why should M&S accept the vouchers? They are a business, they don't want to. Hardly a "disgrace" is it?

usualsuspect · 05/05/2010 21:15

An Asda chip tho...

Sassybeast · 05/05/2010 21:15

Presumably an organic free range chip made from the finest king edwards, tossed in seat salt and fried gently in light, golden olive oil...

OOps - bit carried away with all the m&S foodstuffs...

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:15

I'm not bothered if I sound like I have a chip on my shoulder, to be honest. I'm getting tired of the "you must be nothing but lovely to anyone on benefits and never tell them that they are wrong" attitude on MN. Bugger off. If I started a thread saying "I am living on the breadline but AIBU to food shop in Waitrose?" I'd be shot down. Just because you're on benefits doesn't mean that people can't tell you that you're wrong about something.

GypsyMoth · 05/05/2010 21:17

maybe they were going to be working in clubs/casinos/brothels etc!!you dont know the ins and outs...

LetThereBeRock · 05/05/2010 21:19

I don't see why you should care if the OP shopped in Waitrose either.

So long as her children are fed and clothed I don't care if she spends her money in Harrods.

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:19

Yeah, I hear that a lot (you don't know all the ins and outs)

Hey! You know Dave from down the road? Dave who's been on the dole for ten years? he's got a Ferrari!

Well he MIGHT be training to be a Formula 1 driver, you don't know all the ins and outs.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2010 21:20

If I were on the breadline I'd shop in Waitrose - their 'essentials' range is way better than Tesco/Asda.

smallishsheep · 05/05/2010 21:20

That's not the issue though cupcakes. I'm sure people on benefits do shop at waitrose. WHy is that unreasonable?
I prioritise decent food, and budget accordingly. I dress myself and my dc from charity shops, but I pick well so you'd never know it. It means I can afford to feed them well. And if I want a frigging M and S sausage and can afford it, then have one I shall Being on benefits doesn't mean living on beans. I don't drink or smoke, and rarely go out. That leaves me enough to not have to buy value shit for my kids. Again, sorry if that offends you, what with me being one of the scumbags and all.

GypsyMoth · 05/05/2010 21:22

well then,if you dont know then you clearly dont have the facts ......so what do you do?

you make them up!!

LadyBiscuit · 05/05/2010 21:23

I spend my child benefit on wine sometimes. That's not 'money out of my own purse' either

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:23

Smallishsheep, get the violins out. You're a scumbag if you play the system. I am assuming that you do not so stop making out like I called YOU a scumbag.

Well I'm very happy that you can afford to shop at Waitrose. Really, I am. I must get me some of these benefits. I see where I've been going wrong with this work lark.

runnybottom · 05/05/2010 21:24

I'd spend my child benefit on wine too, if only the bastards hadn't stopped mine for the last 3 months.
Am now drinking meths cheap shit.

GypsyMoth · 05/05/2010 21:25

i think, cupcakes, perhaps you need to learn to budget better

usualsuspect · 05/05/2010 21:25

I think you should get fags and booze vouchers tbh

smallishsheep · 05/05/2010 21:26

Do fuck off cupcakes. I worked plenty hard til I was made redundant

cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:27

I didn't say anything to the contrary did I, Smallishsheep? Get down off your fucking high horse.

Sassybeast · 05/05/2010 21:29

Crack open that lightly salted popcorn and pour me a glass of the finest south african cava someone...

HoorahHilda · 05/05/2010 21:31

Blimey get a grip Cupcakes . Horrid . Step away ...
Well said Smallish sheep.

RustyBucket · 05/05/2010 21:32

You put your hand out for free money, paid for by me and my DH and then you argue about where you should be allowed to spend them.

GET REAL

RedRedWine1980 · 05/05/2010 21:32

Oooh- err!! Although cupcakes can be a total moo I do think shes getting rather a hard time tbh, people dont really have a right to moan about who accepts their free vouchers at the end of the day.

usualsuspect · 05/05/2010 21:33
cupcakesandbunting · 05/05/2010 21:33

No, no, no Rustybucket. Anyone on benefits is the messiah and you mustn't upset them or else...
