webdude......sigh

cupcakesandbunting · 22/04/2010 16:49

Eugh shut up OP, with your pseudo-feminist bollocks. Boring, boring, boring. You read too much into something. I'm sure it was done as a tongue-in-cheek way to raise cash, not to "objectify women".

Get a life.

scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 16:51

How lovely cupcakesandbunting, what an enlightened view and to resort to nastiness because someone does agree with you

scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 16:52

does not agree

Shaz10 · 22/04/2010 16:53

OP, YANBU to think it's vile. I don't think it's vile, but that's the beauty of opinions.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 22/04/2010 16:53

If she was posing seductively in Nuts magazine, in some sad desire to be famous, I would be very unhappy, as I would be disappointed that this was what she wanted to do with her life, when there is so much else going for her

If she was posing seductively (but fairly well covered)in a one-off attempt to raise money for an important cause I would be fine with that (would actually admire her self-confidence: I'd never have the self- confidence to do it), so long as she had other meaningful goals in her life

cupcakesandbunting · 22/04/2010 16:55

I'm enlightened well enough thankyou, Scurryfunge. Enlightened enough not to pull out the feminist card EVERY time a woman gets her boobs out. It's hardly hardcore porn, is it?

Some people need to lighten up.

scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 16:57

Hardly the feminist card...more about respect and dignity. The arguments are interesting and debate is healthy...telling someone to shut up because you disagree is toddler-ish

cupcakesandbunting · 22/04/2010 17:05

Toddlerish I am, then. I'm not sure you can bleat about respect and dignity when these women volunteered to do it.

scurryfunge · 22/04/2010 17:09

We are going round in circles now....all I am saying is stick to the debate without resorting to silly comments.....off to the pass the parcel etiquette thread now, where it's really hotting up

seeker · 22/04/2010 17:14

YAY! I knew someone would play the lack of sense of humour card sooner or later! 10 points to cupcakes!

I notice that only one person has answered my question about how they would feel if it was their daughter.

cupcakesandbunting · 22/04/2010 17:19

If my daughter was helping to raise £26K for her chosen charity, I'd be chuffing well proud of her.

I don't know if it's escaped the attention of the puritans but you can't really see anything more offensive than a bum and a bit of side-boob. Still, I'd forgotten that it was actually 2010 and women were free to choose if they wanted to do this stuff.

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 17:30

Ive got a life thanks cupcake, lovely to see youyr debating ability extends to 'shut up and get a life...' I notice many others with the opposite view to yourself have been able to express their opinions far more eloquently...

OP posts:
seeker · 22/04/2010 17:31

Wow - "puritan". Another 10 points for cupcake!

seeker · 22/04/2010 17:33

cupcake - and your daughter's father would be happy for his daughter to be ogled by squaddies (or indeed any other men) would he?

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/04/2010 17:33

I would NOT want my dd to do this.

Am not puritan, hairy, prudish (insert standard insult here)

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 17:35

You so are Getorf- you MUST be- anyone who objects to this kind of thing: has no life, needs a shag, fella ran off with the next door neighbour, hates men, is a lesbian, is fat/ugly or both, never shaves, looks a mess.
Its the rules dontcha know!

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 22/04/2010 17:36

Oh yeah. Oh never mind.

cupcakesandbunting · 22/04/2010 17:43

Oh get from round your cauldron, you harpies.

We're talking about very inoffensive nudity, NOT hardcore porn. Or anything approaching hardcore porn, for that matter.

It's not my cup of tea, granted, but I'm hardly offended by it and I doubt that the girls taking part feel any trauma because of it. You just need to accept that some women like doing this sort of stuff. It's not up to you or I to call it vile, especially if it's for a good cause rather than for shits and giggles.

Shaz10 · 22/04/2010 17:50

If it were my daughter showing that she wasn't ashamed of her body for charity then I'd be bloody proud of her.

seeker · 22/04/2010 18:00

So in order to show thta you are not ashamed of your body you have to make yourself look like a sex toy?

Doodleydoo · 22/04/2010 18:01

I am a huge huge fan of Help for Heroes, have met some key figures within it and have lost a friend in Afghanistan. Obviously none of that is relevant to the original post however I have to agree that I don't particularly like this particular calender. That isn't saying that I wouldn't buy it for the cause but I don't think I would display it. And my reasoning is that I actually would prefer to see the fat flabby arse of an of 35 yr old mother of 6 than some gorgeous bimbos that make me feel 2000 and even fatter than normal. THAT is why the WI was so popular (and obviously because it was the first of its kind).

I just don't particularly like the way it has been done and what those pictures look like, although I will admit to not being a fan of any of them if it comes down to the nitty gritty.

However I am impressed that it has raised £26,000 and hope that more people come up with some ideas to raise some much needed money for a much respected cause.

RedRedWine1980 · 22/04/2010 18:04

There are some 'larger' women in the shots but ive noticed the leggy skinny glamour model looking women are in the forefront of most of the shots- which makes it even tackier and more sexist imho

OP posts:
nighbynight · 22/04/2010 18:14

Its not my sort of thing, but it has a certain innocent sort of cheekiness about it, so I wouldn't say it's vile, no.

Shaz10 · 22/04/2010 18:14

No, seeker you don't have to. But you can if you want.
