I'm all for manners, equality and respect but my word, it's all becoming over the top don't you think?

No specific examples, just noticed it recently.

OP posts:
runnybottom · 20/04/2010 23:23

I do have a coat, but I'm not allowed to say what colour it is, the word has apparently been banned!
Worlds gorn mad I tells ya!

harleyd · 20/04/2010 23:26

cory · 20/04/2010 23:30

My Easter egg's gone!!! It's gone, I tell you!!! Stolen away, I'll bet, by militant Muslims or leftie politicians! Noone's safe out there, if we let these people rampage through our sacred traditions chocolate caches unhindered!

runnybottom · 20/04/2010 23:33

You're not allowed celebrate Easter, didn't you hear? Tis banned, the PC police took your egg I expect.
Now you have to celebrate "indeterminate-springtime-festival-inclusive-of-all-religions-plus-atheists-that-may-or-may-not-invo lve-chocolate-as-long-as-no-one-complains"

choosyfloosy · 20/04/2010 23:37

Wow there's some great examples on that page. I especially like the one about people asking for the name of the Washington Redskins team to be changed. It didn't happen, but hey, it COULD have done. Are we feeling oppressed yet?

Well no, you can't just have Easter Eggs either. See, I read on yahoo answers that there have to be equal amounts of Easter eggs and Easter sperm. Gender equality and all that. PC gorn mad.

chipmonkey · 20/04/2010 23:48

Oh and you can't say "PC gone mad" either. You have to say "PC that has availed of the mental health services"

Can you say chocolate, come to think of it? I mean, might not that be taken as some un-PC reference to ...you know... colour?

SalFresco · 20/04/2010 23:56

Has anyone mentioned Baa Baa Black Sheep yet?

My MIL insists that schools are not allowed to sing this anymore, and that it has been changed to BaaBaa WHite SHeep. I have repeatedly told her I have witnessed children singing the original version in DS1's school.

"You can't have done," she said, "they're not allowed because it's racist."

Even after I recorded it on my phone, she won't have it.

chipmonkey · 20/04/2010 23:58

It was on yahoo answers as well!
"Baa, baa rainbow sheep" is what they have to sing now. Allegedly.

wastingaway · 21/04/2010 00:09

Isn't the white sheep thing just another verse?

MadameDefarge · 21/04/2010 00:24

I am wearing a very fetching ethnically coloured apron (don't ask)

BitOfFun · 21/04/2010 00:30

Baa baa black sheep myth

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 21/04/2010 00:44

"a 93 year old grandmother was jailed for 9 years for calling a manhole a manhole instead of a personhole"

Ohhh dear. That is very, very funny. Jailed!

And for sheer wondrous nonsense, nothing beats "Getting themselves kick on the butts by the dead Mummy in kicking the butts of God in not worshiping God."

BritFish · 21/04/2010 01:04

the blackboard/whiteboard thing.
i wish i didnt know that this was true.
i wish this was an urban myth.
yeah, im sure people with darker skin are really offended by you stating the colour of a board

also, what exactly is acceptable now? was i inadvertedly racist there? am i allowed to say they have dark skin? I JUST DONT KNOW ANYMORE....
runs out screamingcomes back in

actually, i really dont know. enlighten me, please.

LyraSilvertongue · 21/04/2010 08:17

Britfish, I assure you no-one in their right mind is offended by the word blackboard.
Things like this do more harm than good imho.

wastingaway · 21/04/2010 08:53

A blackboard is a blackboard, a whiteboard is a whiteboard. One of them is black and one of them is white. It's not PC to call a blackboard white. It's incorrect.

seeker · 21/04/2010 09:51

There has, I promise you, never been a case where anyone (except possibly someone who has got their information from the Daily Mail) has issued orders that blackboards should not be called blackboards.

OrmRenewed · 21/04/2010 10:25

rube - I think you hale from a different reality. Middle England Earth perhaps?

theyoungvisiter · 21/04/2010 10:34

whereas you hale from Earthsea if I am reading your nickname right - don't you Orm?

(or have I got totally the wrong end of the wizard staff stick?)

seeker · 21/04/2010 10:37

Mind you, Earthsea, Pern, Middle Earth, Darkover, Narnia and all such places are usually extraordinarily non-PC!

theyoungvisiter · 21/04/2010 10:44

Actually Earthsea is quite PC in some respects. The protagonist of the first three books is dark skinned and race isn't really an issue in the books.

It is pretty extraordinarily sexist at times (although later books dissect this).

Narnia is dreadful I agree, and Middle Earth is pretty suspect. I still can't quite believe Pete Jackson got away with his portrayal of the Orks in the films. However that's probably a discussion for another thread
