To be totally fed up with Political Correctness

I'm all for manners, equality and respect but my word, it's all becoming over the top don't you think?

No specific examples, just noticed it recently.

Here are some more examples -

Well the term "flip" is derogatory when used to describe a person from the Philippines. I would never use the term to describe a person, but flip is also a word in English that means turn over. However when I was in the Navy you couldn't call the paper charts flip-charts so not to offend Filipinos. Strangely I've never met a Filipino who was offended by the paper chart either. They called them "flip-charts" too.

I have nothing against Filipinos, but what does a pad of paper have to do with race? Nobody knows what the correct term for the "big pad of paper that you write on in a presentation."

A violent burglar who was chased by police, he climbed up onto a roof and spent four hours throwing tiles at anyone who went near him. The police had to send up a KFC meal because he asked for it and it would have violated his human rights if they'd let him go hungry.

Last year a defunct school was seen to be leaving its lights on all night when somebody complained of the waste of electricity , the council informed them that the lights had to be left on all night because if somebody breaks in they might hurt themselves in the dark and the council had a duty of care .

It really has come to something when you can't even enjoy a harmless outdoor get together with your friends (who may or may not be wearing pointed white hoods) of an evening, and light a fire in the shape of a cross to keep warm or possibly illuminate a neighbour's lawn without some loony-lefty becoming all affronted and complaining to the nanny state.

It makes me sick, it really does.

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/04/2010 22:35

Theyoungvisiter - my lady hole of course. Thin skirt in the summer. And I did egg them on a big. (Two of them are now gay...)

stickylittlefingers · 20/04/2010 22:36

where is this canteen where you cannot ask for black coffee?

rubetube · 20/04/2010 22:36

None of these are my experience btw, just examples I have found, the first lot are from a police woman.

Sorry, but I don't believe you

Load of old shit

"None of these are my experience btw, just examples I have found, the first lot are from a police woman. "

LOL

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/04/2010 22:38

I worked for tree huggers once and we couldn't have a brainstorming session. It had to be a thought shower, as brainstorming was derogatory against mentally handicapped people (as they v un PCly put it).

seeker · 20/04/2010 22:38

I don't believe a single on of your examples, rubetube. They are all urban myths. Every single one of them.

What people usually mean when they say that "political correctness has gone too far" is that they wanted to say something racist, sexist or homophobic, and someone told them not to.

hazeyjane · 20/04/2010 22:38

Rubetube, I think you might actually live in a fictional world created by the Daily Mail.

Someone has been reading snopes for their bedtime story far too often.

KurriKurri · 20/04/2010 22:40

I too don't believe your examples, they sound like the kind of urban myths that always get trotted out by anti-PC people.
But even if they are true, going a bit far in the opposite direction is surely a small price to pay for trying to build a society that treats people with decency and respect?

theyoungvisiter · 20/04/2010 22:40

"None of these are my experience btw, just examples I have found, the first lot are from a police woman. "

LOL!!!

Found where?! By googling "political correctness gorn mad daily mail hate rants urban myths"?

surely all these things happened in Red Ken's heyday?
along with all the lesbian plumbers
(disclaimer- some of my best friends are lesbians, plumbers and Londoners)

Goblinchild · 20/04/2010 22:41

Mrs S, I think you may find that brainstorm was considered derogatory towards epileptics. But the National Epilepsy Society told the overly protective to stop fussing, there were much bigger non-pc problems out there to be sorted first.

seeker · 20/04/2010 22:41

It's political incorrectness gone mad, I tell you. I blame all those do-badders out there, always refusing to poke their noses in where they are wanted.

noopska · 20/04/2010 22:41

is this stories from the police force?

theyoungvisiter · 20/04/2010 22:41

My friend's neighbour's childminder's brother's company doesn't have Human Resources any more - it's now called HuPeople Resources.

Honest. I made it up heard it myself.

tethersend · 20/04/2010 22:42

rubetube, I think you may enjoy this

In fact, it's probably where you got your information from.

stickylittlefingers · 20/04/2010 22:42

Stop believing stuff that people tell you without question and you will be a lot happier, I think.

Yeah cos if it's on the internet it MUST be true.

Everything on there is. Even the stuff that directly contradicts the other stuff.

Oh dear [wipes eye] this thread is the best one I've read all day. I should go to bed but it's too good.
