I'm all for manners, equality and respect but my word, it's all becoming over the top don't you think?

No specific examples, just noticed it recently.

You may laugh, I actually heard, in RL, with no irony, someone say 'it's health and safety gone mad' he was referring to the volcanic dust/avoiding planes falling out of the sky ban. He blamed the govt.

noopska · 20/04/2010 22:17

give us some examples THEN you can get flamed, you obviously want it...

runnybottom · 20/04/2010 22:17

I don't think I did though, really. You said what you said.
Perhaps you were misleading and woolly? That would explain the confusion.

AgentZigzag · 20/04/2010 22:18

I've got a good example Ruby, Gingerbread People grrr WTF?

KurriKurri · 20/04/2010 22:20

Rubetube you forgot to put Harrrumph on the end of your post.

It's a pretty poor show if we have to treat other people with consideration and respect. What is the world coming to? Bring back flogging/the Empire/national service etc.

I blame the volcano.

It's a nanny state, that's what it is.

and it hasn't done me any harm at all.

I blame .

ShowOfHands · 20/04/2010 22:22

My grandad didn't die for this country, he had flat feet actually, but he would have done if he could, just so that I could .

Missus84 · 20/04/2010 22:23

My favourite one ever from my (generally lovely) Dad:

"I don't have a problem with homosexuals, but why do they have to make it seem 'cool'?"

I think he was worried about Graham Norton corrupting the youth

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2010 22:24

Some of the posts on this thread illustrate exactly what the op is on about

LyraSilvertongue · 20/04/2010 22:24

I mean the ones with the faces.

stickylittlefingers · 20/04/2010 22:25

I definitely blame the youth of today. They've always got their head in front of the telly just when I want to see something and eat all my favourite breakfast cereal when I'm not looking.

theyoungvisiter · 20/04/2010 22:25

Maybe the Nanny State is a Nanny goat - that would go with Milking the System - no?

They don't know they're born. That's another good one.

Sorry, is it really wrong that I lolled like mad at '"I don't have a problem with homosexuals, but why do they have to make it seem 'cool'?"'

Yeah, those bastard homosexuals with their good taste, biting sense of humour and kick ass fashion. Why oh why can't they just wear M&S cardigans and carpet slippers like REAL men?

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/04/2010 22:28

When I started work years ago [old gimmer emoticon] when I leaned over the desk, the "boys" used to see if they could get their finger in my "hole" first time. All jolly good clean fun. But these days I could have them up for sexual harassment, know what I mean? Or some kind of trauma.

BitOfFun · 20/04/2010 22:29

I really wish I knew more about computers, just so I could set up a shop and call it "The PC Brigade"...it would amuse me muchly.

rubetube · 20/04/2010 22:30

For example -

We are not allowed to ask for black coffee in the canteen
we are not to refer to rubbish bags as black bags, even though they are, but have all changed to green ones now!
one bloke at work said 'typical woman, can't make up her mind to his female friend who was choosing in the canteen and he got disciplined because someone who overheard it found it 'offensive'.
A trainer away from the class, spoke of a student who broke a laptop by throwing something across the classroom as 'the prat' someone overheard again and complained that it was derofgatory to the student.
A civilian member of staff complained that she wasn't 'valued' when someone was looking for a 'police man'( he was trying to clarify a point of law so did need a police officer anyway), but he got in trouble.
We are not to refer to the board at the front of class as blackboard or white board it has to be 'penboard'.

rubetube. Give me an example of something you want to say but you can't because of political correctness?

theyoungvisiter · 20/04/2010 22:32

MrsSchadenfreude, which hole and did your clothes not get in the way?! (mind boggles)

I don't believe you, sorry.

Is Baa Baa Black Sheep banned at your children's nursery too?

Missus84 · 20/04/2010 22:33

theyoungvisiter - I'm really not sure what he's basing it on either, since the only gay he knows is my best friend who looks like he's still dressed by his mum

I've always had my suspicions LeninGrad...

seeker · 20/04/2010 22:33

Sorry - just noticed that you have.

OK - are all these things that have actually happened to you or you actually saw with your own eyes happening, or are they things that you heard happened or which happened to a friend of a friend?

Missus84 · 20/04/2010 22:35

rudetube, you work somewhere where the word black has been banned? Sorry, don't believe a word of it
