YANBU

First Mumsnet seduces me into buying Boden boots, now I am an Ocado recipient as of two weeks ago!

Tesco price-matching, a free half kilo of blueberries each time, being able to sit on my arse ordering and a nice chap bringing it all in for me in such a civilised manner, I am a convert!!!

However, the pack of sausages I just received had one sausage half sticking out of the back of the packet in a strange and vulgar manner. The exposed bit's gone a bit purple, so am thinking of not putting it in my sausage and broccoli pasta this eve..??

serenity · 23/03/2010 20:33

I tried doing a shop on Ocado a couple of months ago (after seeing one of these types of threads) and it was pretty useless for me - they didn't seem to do half the things I usually buy. Either their website is dire, or they just don't have the range that Tesco has.

StarExpat · 23/03/2010 20:37

I used to use tesco. Just switched to ocado (yes, op, totally missing the clubcard points!! But it's better this way...) The produce and everything is generally much, much nicer. And it's always at least 10 cheaper.

They do deliver with a lot of carry bags, but we put them all together and by the door and when they deliver next, they take the bags back and recycle them

Weekly save of 10 pounds = monthly save of at least 40 pounds. And nicer food. I am in love with it!

electrofagz · 23/03/2010 20:37

Yup - don't rate their website ...or Sainsbo's

5DollarShake · 23/03/2010 20:39

Yes, Tesco do deliver without plastic bags - but it was an incident over this 'feature' that had me finally give up on them.

The deal is that when they deliver without bags, they take everything into the kitchen for you. Our kitchen is down one measly flight of stairs from the front door, and the Tesco delivery man had a rant at me about how the big wigs who come up with these bright ideas don't have any idea what it's like for the drivers who have to actually do it.

I was: as he refused to take them down and dumped everything in the door way, and promptly switched to Ocado after that, who are nothing but polite and friendly. Haven't looked back.

StarExpat · 23/03/2010 20:39

oh yes, and the 9 pound monthly delivery charge is helpful, too. That's only 2.25 per delivery if 4 deliveries in a month! I do one order per week (need to for fresh fruit/veg) so it helps a lot

StarExpat · 23/03/2010 20:41

5dollarshake - that's the other thing that hooked us in. The very, very polite delivery driver! They bend over backwards to help and make it a positive experience for you.

electrofagz · 23/03/2010 20:46

I might try Ocado - the monthly delivery charge sounded a bit scary - what is the max number you can have each week? I get organic veg box top up when I'm running low on those but that is more of a little indulgence than something I rely on

StarExpat · 23/03/2010 20:56

you can get as many deliveries as you want for a month with the monthly charge! amazing!

Isaidheyhoney · 23/03/2010 21:06

So how much is the monthly charge, Star? Can never get my head round all that.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 23/03/2010 21:09

Ocado don't deliver in our area waaaaaahhh

Isaidheyhoney · 23/03/2010 21:10

I like Ocado btw for all the above reasons, but esp tend to order on receipt of the 15% off emails.

jenduff · 23/03/2010 21:14

We were offered Ocado on demand for £9.99 so someone on here got a better deal than us.

It works out as £2.50 a week and you can have a delivery every day if you like (min order £40) - our weekly shopping is usually around £120 mark - lots of food intolerances so when I had a two week free trial of Ocado on demand I did a £40 shop every other day - was fab!

I think if you register on their website but don't shop for a couple of weeks they will probably send you a 15% voucher to entice you in and will also offer you a two week trial - they've done this on all three of our accounts (numpty DH registered and forgot his logon details so had to re-register)

StarExpat · 23/03/2010 21:17

it's 9.99 per month. I usually only spend 40/week, though on groceries for dh, ds and I.

JGBMum · 23/03/2010 21:34

Oh bugger, just read all the threads, thought I'd take a look, and discovered that we are not in their delivery area - despite a new Waitrose opening last week!

CarrieDaBabi · 23/03/2010 22:36

yay!

on the whole, i am not bu for once!

yes

Mine's definetly £8.99 a month. They must like me, they keep bringing me free stuff. They were going to give me a trial size fabric softner but put in a free large bottle instead, and there's the free mini bottles of vodka they give me aswell .

Do you all get a free bottle of wine on the birthday of your first order aswell? It's sweet

YanknCock · 24/03/2010 00:44

What are they like for things like half fat diary products, reduced fat houmous, diet-y type stuff?

I'm somewhat tempted, a friend of mine uses Ocado and always has nice food in. I've been a Tesco shopper since I moved here (go to Sainsburys when I want nicer produce), but like the idea of having a flat rate for as many deliveries as I want.

Have checked and they do deliver to my area. Will my neighbours think I am poncy? It is strictly Tesco/Asda delivery territory on my street.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 24/03/2010 00:48

They will probably think you are poncey. The meat's alot nicer though.

I know their range of gluten free stuff is good, I can't say I've noticed about the half fat diet stuff though. The cakes are lurvely

You just have to spend more then £40 per delivery. I wouldn't change, they even tell you what is in stock when you order so you know what's availiable, less chance of substitutions this way, I've had two in 3 years.

StarExpat · 24/03/2010 08:49

Yes I like that they tell you what's in stock!

Yank - they do have half fat/low fat stuff. I buy a lot of "essential waitrose" brand and it's cheap. Like tesco brand but 100x nicer.

I got a little box of chocolates in my first order.
and a free bottle of wine in my second order.

And I get a text reminder when they are going to deliver.
ANd they are never late. If they are even running toward the end of your hour slot, they will ring and apologize!

Yes, it's an hour slot... not a 2 hour slot. So you're not having to block out 2 hours and wait. You pretty much know when it's coming.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/03/2010 09:01

They don't deliver here

Morloth · 24/03/2010 09:32

Let them know about your dodgy sausage lotster. I did once have some dodgy meatballs delivered. Emailed them from the confirmation email, they deducted the price immediately and credited my credit card.

Ocado flowers are also very nice.

They just get it right (and if there is a problem they sort it), I am willing to pay more for that.

Isaidheyhoney · 24/03/2010 09:42

Most of my spend is on gluten free stuff, only available from Waitrose/Ocado.

The only moan I'd have is that occasionally the packaging is damaged eg the top of coleslaw leaking, but they refund online, no probs.

lotster · 24/03/2010 10:12

Ooh Morloth good idea, thanks!

lotster · 24/03/2010 10:23

OK have now emailed then about my dodgy, purple, dried up part-sausage.

Can just imagine them thinking I'm taking the piss or having a good laugh at me!!
