Nettiespagetti · 27/03/2010 19:54

Have just received my very first ocado order! All good, got a txt to remind me it was coming and another one to tell me that it was comng in a lemon van driven by a chap called ian (not quite a Titus, but he was very helpful) he came back to welcome us to ocado as he didn'. Realise it was our first time!

No welcome pack though and dh gave him a tip! Do u tip ur driver?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 27/03/2010 19:58

Tip? No, I never do. I'm not quick enough to get a christmas delivery but I would do then or if they had come out in stupid weather to bring me my delivery.

All the drivers I have met have been really polite and cheerful, it's definetly not the same as Tesco hey! Welcome to the cult!!

StarExpat · 27/03/2010 20:01

Are you meant to tip the delivery driver?? Oh no!!! I Haven't! We had an order delivered this morning... LOVE that they deliver on sundays!!! and it was all lovely except for 2 smashed eggs which were refunded immediately.
Maybe they will give your welcome pack next time?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 27/03/2010 20:02

Welcome pack?? What's that then??

Agree with zapo - plus Tesco is trying to take over the world which makes me nervous whereas John Lewis profitshare with all their employees which is a much better business model imo

StarExpat · 27/03/2010 20:10

I had a dvd and some recipe books - some other random stuff - was in a little pack titled "welcome pack".
I usually have the courgette van.
I had forgotten to order courgettes this time, though!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 27/03/2010 20:22

Darn, I've been with them for a couple of years so must have missed this

ouryve · 27/03/2010 22:44

YANBU

No Ocado/waitrose locally, anymore, but we shop weekly at M&S because we only buy what we need, there. Have also found that the higher welfare food we look for is really cheaper there than Sainsburys. (Can't bring ourselves to shop in Tesco unless we have to.)

NettiespagettisMiniEggs · 27/03/2010 22:52

Think a little email is in order about missing welcome pack!

I have already booked my next delivery

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 27/03/2010 23:50

Hmm.

Dear Fab Ocado people.

I am so impressed with your delivery and customer service that I have recomended you to a few thousand people on a web site called Mumsnet, I hope you don't mind.
Whilst discussing how fantastic your company is, it has come to my attention that you forgot to give me a welcome pack when I first joined you a few moons ago. Whilst I believe this is an oversight on your part, I am slightly saddened that I have missed out so I think a nice bottle of Bollinger in my next delivery would make up for this.

Kindest regards
Fluffy

What do you think??

NettiespagettisMiniEggs · 28/03/2010 13:25

Hee hee belle very good give it a go! I'll confirm ive been converted!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 28/03/2010 13:29

TrillianAstra · 28/03/2010 13:33

Belle don't forget to add "you may have heard of the influential site in such newspapers as The Times, who are calling this the 'Mumsnet electin'."

akhems · 28/03/2010 13:34

Just done my first shop after this thread and saved £22 compared to the other supermarkets on that comparison site

TrillianAstra · 28/03/2010 13:38

I still think that the OP is BU - Ocado is more expensive than Tesco for the things that I buy.

nannynick · 28/03/2010 13:40

Has anyone used www.mysupermarket.co.uk to compare costs of your weekly shop? It compares Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys and Ocardo.

Waitrose Online (I presume you meant WaitroseDeliver) looks good, though has a minimum £50 spend requirement - so not good for small amounts of things... though could always bulk up the price by adding Wine

nannynick · 28/03/2010 13:43

Oh I really should read all messages, rather than skim reading... I see Mysupermarket has already been mentioned and that some of you have tried it.

JackRabbitBauer · 28/03/2010 13:46

I would just like to say

AT least you all have a fricking CHOICe about your supermarkets. So stop bumping this thread as it just reminds me that the further you go along the M4 the less you matter...

Oh, and on my supermarket ocado can be twice as much as tesco so YAall BU.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 28/03/2010 13:48

Ocado may be a little more expensive but they don't deliver things that are so close to their sell by date that you either have to have a mass cook off or throw them away so you do infact save money by not having to buy as often (sicks tongue out and makes silly 'ne ne na ne na' noises )

Ocado minimum spend is £40 nannynick

TrillianAstra · 28/03/2010 13:57

I don't trust mysupermarket - I tried it once and when the exact item was not available in a different supermarket I was not impressed with the choices it made. If I have picked out 600g of chicken breasts in one supermarket then you can't choose 340g of mini fillets in another and then say 'this one is cheaper'.

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 28/03/2010 14:17

I don't think mysupermarket measures the efficiency of the supermarket, the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the products or the amount of substitutions though. Ocado wins hands down. It's pointless IMO to pay £2.00 for a chicken that's been pumped with water when you can get a 0% water chicken for a pound or so extra. I'd rather pay the extra to be honest, it's worth it.

I emailed Ocado

I should have read the main page, if you recommend a friend both you and they are sent £30 (each) of vouchers to spend Oh well, at least you all will have lovely Ocado bringing your food! You'll never change back (mwuhahaha)!

nannynick · 28/03/2010 14:26

Maybe Ocado will advertise on Mumsnet and provide an introductory discount code.

MrsMattie · 28/03/2010 14:33

I have done a like-for-like shop on both several times (occasionally use Ocado when can't get a suitable delivery slot with Tesco) and Ocado shop always comes out around 20% more expensive.

TrillianAstra · 28/03/2010 14:34

V true Belle, but the question was AIBU to think Ocado is cheaper, not AIBU to think Ocado is better (of course it's better, it's just more expensive for the same things, even with quality adjustment taken into account),
