Lady Gaga's new vid...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ95z6ywcBY&feature=PlayList&p=C4B9C7326E087E89&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL& index=1

I personally love Lady Gaga, but felt very uncomfortable when this came on the tv today, my little sister was visiting and I had to switch it over. I watched the video online and loved it, but I can't believe they are showing it during the day. The only thing missing from the edited version is the swearing and the close up of her lady bits!

World gone mad

I love it though.

It's co-written and directed by Jonas Ackerlund, Kerry.

claig · 16/03/2010 16:12

forgot about those aspects
alright, she had a few weaknesses, I grant you

otterinaskoda I love Prince too, this is getting shocking!

hmmSleep · 16/03/2010 16:23

Thought I'd link again for those that haven't seen it.

Is it wrong that the part I was most disapproving of is when Beyonce throws a half eaten sandwich plus wrapping out of the car window? I can't stand litter bugs!

southeastastra · 16/03/2010 16:23

how is someone who has admitted taking 'bags of cocaine' such a great role model either? (though i guess we can let elton off)

justmarie · 16/03/2010 16:24

this sort of mentality has been going on for years ,for example, in victorian times showgirls were seen as prostitutes

claig · 16/03/2010 16:26

"Does Lady Gaga have any videos that don't feature her in a thong?"
don't know the answer, but my guess is that they would have flopped

There are Lady Gaga dress up games etc.
She gets played at the school disco.
That poor young fan who had that sad fatal accident at home, I think she was about 10 - which I thought was a typical age of the kids who play and dance to her tunes....she seems popular with my nieces.

BitOfFun

I think it is aimed at children because of the type of music it is. It is synthesized pop music, and very similar, some songs almost identical to, the Europop genre. The main audience for that kind of music has always been children. Reviews of her shows in Australia have commented on the high numbers of children in the audience.

MillyR

im not sure youve understood what I asked.
i asked how Lady Gaga was aimed at children, meaning how she aims herself, and how her record company aim her at children.

you have just told me what other people have done with her music/image, outside companies not affiliated with her freating dress up games, and DJ's playing her at school discos's.
parents letting their children play her music and watch her videos.
europop isnt just for children, just because it is the kind of music genre that is easily adapted into cr*p kids singalongs and cheesy earovision style pop.
and synthesised pop i would argue has a larger older clubbing fanbase, and more fans who actually buy/listen to the music of their own accord.
just because she makes a certain genre of music doesnt mean she's making it for a specific audience.
J.K.Rowling originally wrote Harry Potter children, but her audience includes children and adults.

again, i ask, who can show me one way in which lady gaga herself and her record/publicity company market her at children?

so many people complain that children are exposed to sexualised lyrics and videos.
it is the parents choice that these children are exposed.
sexualised videos/lyrics are not AIMED at children, they are aimed at people who choose to buy/watch/listen to the music, which does not include children, as it is up to the parents what their children consume from the media.
why criticise these artists when they do not intend for your children to see sexually explicit stuff? it is you that eposes it to them! it is you that lets them watch it! it is schools for playing it at school discos! it is radio/tv stations playing it during the daytime! the artists themselves do not writhe about or wear explicit costumes to please your kids!

if Rihanna's 'Rude Boy' song, for example, was aimed at kids...well, it wouldnt exist.

oh god dittany....why does everything in your life have to be so political and dull....

...can't people just like her for her music..? she's a bit different..abit mad....what's wrong with that..?

...You need to break out of your chains and live abit.

daftpunk · 16/03/2010 16:44

And there is nothing "right on" about liking lady gaga..

You'd know that if you knew anything about music...

BritFish · 16/03/2010 16:46

eurovisionexposes

why do artists have to make their work child friendly? should we only make stuff that is child friendly?
your child is only exposed to innapropriate stuff because you let them.
if you think the media has sexualised your child, it is because YOU the parent has let them. why should anyone else be responsible for your child?
if a stranger in the street told you to put your child on a diet, would you do so? no, you would tell them to mind their own beeswax as it is your choice as a parent what your child eats! so why is it someone else's responsibility to control what your child is exposed to before they are old enough to make their own informed choices?

claig · 16/03/2010 16:46

"tried desperately to find anything erotic in it. Stilettos, licking metal bars and violence didn't do it for me."
it most probably does it for men though, that's probably why it is in there

BritFish · 16/03/2010 16:53

dittany, again you have not answered the question. just because the children are exposed to the music and like it, doesnt mean the record companies aim it at them

by that, artists and companies should only be allowed to make music with explicit lyrics/videos etc in if they made it as unappealing to a child as possible, which isnt fair on the rest of us?

just because they are part of the market, doesnt mean it's aimed at them, cant you see that?
Harry Potter? for example?

and Dittany, why assume only men will be titillated by it?
this may come as a shock to you, but lesbianism is appealling to....uh, you guessed it, lesbians. and...straight women!

and how does it have nothing to do with sexuality? Lady Gaga is bisexual and she kissed a girl in her video? would everybody be so het up if it was a man/woman kiss?
some undercover homophobia going on in this thread. women/men are allowed to kiss all the time in videos, but if its two women its only there to titillate men? doesnt that show how totally and utterly brainwashed some of you are!

daftpunk · 16/03/2010 16:57

Lol dittany....I loved that post...

...you are human after all

BritFish · 16/03/2010 16:57

DaftPunk-
And there is nothing "right on" about liking lady gaga..

You'd know that if you knew anything about music...

doesnt that show how little YOU know about music?
so what is 'cool' in music?
because i hate Cliff Richard, but to a lot of people out there he is extremely cool.
who's right?
what's 'cool' in music is very different to very different people.

MamaG · 16/03/2010 16:59

Wow
what a load of shite
I'll never get aht 9 minutes 32 seconds back

BitOfFun · 16/03/2010 17:00

Britfish- you seem to think you have quoted me there, but it wasn't me who said that actually.

I am not interested in 'banning' this particular video (and I don't have music tv on in my house in front of the kids very often, thanks for the tip though). I think it's absolutely fair enough though to have some kind of a discussion about how popular culture is eroding our kids' ability to develop an autonomous sense of sexuality as they get older. What adults do and watch in private is entirely up to them, but this stuff is EVERYWHERE, and you'd be naive to think you could stop your kids being influenced by it: it's all-pervasive.
