Lady Gaga's new vid...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ95z6ywcBY&feature=PlayList&p=C4B9C7326E087E89&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL& index=1

I personally love Lady Gaga, but felt very uncomfortable when this came on the tv today, my little sister was visiting and I had to switch it over. I watched the video online and loved it, but I can't believe they are showing it during the day. The only thing missing from the edited version is the swearing and the close up of her lady bits!

World gone mad

I love it though.

When men do this sort of porn music video, they have half naked women thrusting about. When women do this sort of porn music video they have half naked men thrusting about.

Oh no, wait a minute, lookie here, half naked women again.

Female empowerment

SpringHeeledJack · 16/03/2010 21:20

I'm usually the first to jump up and yell if something's offensive- but with Gaga, I don't think she appeals to straight men at all, so this really doesn't play like a bloke's wank fantasy, imo. I think she scares the shit out of yr average chap, and that's where the snidey "Gaga's got a cock" thing comes from.

of course she has, lads

In that context I can't see that the video's offensive. Not like that Pepsi thing we had at the weekend, anyway. rrrrrrrr

and I quite fancy her

midnightexpress · 16/03/2010 21:22

lol justmytwopenceworth.

Pofacedagain · 16/03/2010 21:22

Yes possibly Spring. But still doesn't excuse tired old lesbo stereotypes, IMO. I know it is irony and all but just seems overdone. That's my only problem with it. Seems a bit fake 'edgy'. Glossy 'edgy'

BritFish · 16/03/2010 21:24

Pofaced:
haha, it's like all the discussion about her having a penis.
because leotards cover that up right!

is there a feminist film thread in the film topic? do we have a film topic?
feminist disney films.
ie, no prince charming.

I love how im so hypocritical in that I dont mind half naked women in music videos [even though its their choice so reeaaaally...never mind]
but i would ban all twilight books and films forever just because of the blatant anti women messages across the whole series!

Deezley · 16/03/2010 21:27

I saw the video yesterday with my 4 yr old present in the living room. It made very uncomfortable viewing, luckily she was playing on her leapster so totally oblivious. Well...... I hope.

LadyGaga · 16/03/2010 21:34

I was really lookin forward to the video as the director is pretty hot - I don't find it that amazing quite frankly.

Yeah a bit riske but what a shit story! Mr Akerlund pls do better next time!

BitOfFun · 16/03/2010 21:38

I thought you were here to defend yourself for a second there

Pofacedagain · 16/03/2010 21:40

Hot? Are you sure ?

MmeLindt · 16/03/2010 21:43

Hot?

Really?

Please tell me that Po linked to the wrong guy.

Pofacedagain · 16/03/2010 21:44

try again

missmoopy · 16/03/2010 21:46

Not hot at all. Looks like some kind of wierd vampire...and not in a good way!

Pofacedagain · 16/03/2010 21:49

This Jonas very pretty but not the director of the gaga vid.

CarmenSanDiego · 16/03/2010 21:51

Top post, SpringheeledJack. Good point about the penis used as an insult by men too. (And I've only heard men making comments about her supposed trans status)

Pink. I sort of like her, but she's a bit obvious. The Stupid Girls video is funny but the message is so over-earnest, it's almost like a public information film. And why does the girl have to play football (a traditionally male game) to make a 'smart' choice at the end?

daftpunk · 16/03/2010 22:10

Think Christina Aguilera said LGG is transexual....

Pink is nothing special.... I like her short blond spiky hair...that's about it.

ThatVikRinA22 · 16/03/2010 22:18

heres a concept.

if you like it, her, what she is and what she does you watch it.

if you dont you change the channel.

this is something that totally totally baffles me when anyone jumps up and down screaming that something should be banned/is disgraceful/is offensive etc etc

if your offended dont watch it!! i just dont get what the fuss is about. i HATE anyone telling me what i can and cant watch or read or see or do. i hate censorship and i hate the moral majority telling me that what i chose to watch is somehow feeding into somebody elses ideas of "bad". tbh if it wasnt for this very thread that video would never have be seen by me - this thread made me seek it out and watch it and i was completely non plussed either way.

some people truly do need to get a life. live and let live. if it doesnt float your boat then steer clear! what is the problem with people?

MillyR · 16/03/2010 22:24

Not one single person has asked for this video to be banned, or for it to be censored. The question asked at the beginning was whether or not this should be shown on daytime tv (i.e. before the watershed).

missmoopy · 16/03/2010 22:32

I agree Vicar, I am against censorship for censorships sake. If you don't want to see it, or don't want your children to see it, don't watch it.

It is aimed at adults who have a choice. It is shown during the day on programmes aimed at adults. If my daughter is watching telly she watches childrens channels.

ThatVikRinA22 · 16/03/2010 22:38

surely the point is they are showing during the day ON THE MUSIC CHANNELS!!

if i dont want my kids to watch such videos i wouldnt leave the television on a channel that is bound to show it! its not rocket science is it?
or is it? this is what im saying about personal responsibility. choose what to watch. or dont. change the bloody channel.

MillyR · 16/03/2010 22:40

Ofcom rules which I think are broken by this video being played during the day:

1.10 The use of illegal drugs, the abuse of drugs, smoking, solvent abuse and the misuse of alcohol:must generally be avoided and in any case must not be condoned, encouraged or glamorised in other programmes broadcast before the watershed unless there is editorial justification.

1.11 Violence, its after-effects and descriptions of violence, whether verbal or physical, must be appropriately limited in programmes broadcast before the watershed (in the case of television) and must also be justified by the context.

1.12 Violence, whether verbal or physical, that is easily imitable by children in a manner that is harmful or dangerous: must not be broadcast before the watershed (in the case of television), unless there is editorial justification.

1.14 The most offensive language must not be broadcast before the watershed (in the case of television).

1.20 Any discussion on, or portrayal of, sexual behaviour must be editorially justified if included before the watershed

MillyR · 16/03/2010 22:43

From 2008, so it isn't as if they haven't been told:

MTV has been handed a £255,000 fine by media regulator Ofcom for "serious, persistent and repeated" breaches of broadcasting guidelines.

The music channel was found to have failed in its responsibility to ensure that bad language and unsuitable material were not broadcast before the 21:00 watershed.

MTV channels TMF, MTV France, MTV UK and MTV Hits were found to have repeatedly transgressed the Ofcom code in terms of protecting children from unsuitable material, observing the 21:00 watershed, justifying potentially offensive material in context and ensuring that foul language was not broadcast before the watershed.

The Ofcom report said it had received a number of complaints and cited music videos such as Aphex Twin's Windowlicker and reality shows such as Totally Scott-Lee and Totally Jodie Marsh.

The Ofcom report said the material in question was "not justified by the context of broadcasts that were likely to appeal to children".

It added that the "likely audience would have expected to have been protected from the most offensive language and material in such programming".

In response, an MTV spokesman said: "MTV Networks Europe takes this sanction and fine very seriously and has taken a series of steps to minimise as much as possible any breaches in the future.

LadyGaga · 16/03/2010 22:44

losers, i mean his work... he is a ugly as fuck.

LadyGaga · 16/03/2010 22:45

girls, i meant his work, his creations no him... he is a ugly as fuck.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/03/2010 22:46

i dunno i dunno i dunno...

been thinking about this...it is a stupendously funny, witty, entertaining video.

it is very much STRONG women isn't it?

I think compared to the tit and arse flashing that is par for the course in most vids now, this is actually quite a good video to show to children! would I? probably not. but it is FAR less offensive then lots and lots that there is no fuss about at all.

if someone has already said that, eversosorry!
