OOH yes I started the thread that Mrs Gladstone allegedly appeared on (although I thought it might have been one of their children?) and it was hilarious. I am sad that it disappeared because it was well entertaining. I started off with a sneaky admiration but a very uncomfortable feeling that this coy "we are a small family business" schtick was "bolleaux". Look at this for a start, the family residence of Charlie Gladstone (his wife was a Hambro I believe here

The thing that really annoyed me was that they spun this line of being a funky young couple working hard (in the music business) in the late 80s and deciding that there was a better way to live and upping sticks to start this Pedlar business up. No mention of nipping back to set up a business on one of the sprawling family estates.

Do like a few of their baubles in a guilty fashion though

I thought the spanner was some sort of mistake...that perhaps someone had hacked into the website. then I saw that bit of text that said something about a coffee table. so I thought, as I kept rolling the mouse over it, that perhaps it was an incedibly arty spanner-shaped coffee table. it seemed like a more plausible explanation than a £700 spanner.

i wonder how heavy that spanner is

it's nearly as tall as me

Galena · 12/03/2010 08:58

I wouldn't want to buy anything because it is all kept in the stables with the horses. It probably reeks of horse (One of the most unpleasant aromas IMO)

yes on the right - 165x25cm

it is a spanner for a michelin man

Pumphreydidit · 12/03/2010 09:12

It probably has "Keep Calm and Carry On" stamped on it.

madcapmyrtle · 12/03/2010 09:27

Love this thread. Well, I am grateful to Caroline and Charlie for helping me see that all the old and scratched objects around my house just have a 'gentle patina of wear and tear'... www.pedlars.co.uk/page_3066.html

165 cm??? blimey. that changes everything. I retract everything I said. it's clearly a bargain. [wonders off to see where in my house I could display, to artful effect, a giant spanner]

Rockbird · 12/03/2010 09:31

I really like the coloured oven dishes though

hatwoman · 12/03/2010 09:31

£60 for a tray. bet they do them in Ikea for a fiver.

hatwoman · 12/03/2010 09:33

I like those too, rockbird. and whilst top-end-ish price they're not off the scale

madcapmyrtle · 12/03/2010 09:34

Maybe we could think up some new slogans for them....at the moment perhaps
'KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON IGNORING MUMSNET'

MilaMae · 12/03/2010 09:42

You can get those dishes in any French market waaaaaaaaay less than that and they chip like buggary.

Had a sneaky peak at the castle (I lost the battle not to )-Jesus have they got an obsession with Union Jacks or what!!!!!

Union Jack bunting does not a room of good taste make.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 12/03/2010 09:46

they won the aristo-genetic lottery, gram.

trice · 12/03/2010 09:51

Gosh I wish my parents had been landed gentry. I am sure I could have endured boarding school and distant cold parenting for the promise of and enduring sense of entitlement.

Let them eat cake.
