I am not at all tempted by the recycled stools...

JosieZ · 13/03/2010 08:06

The newspaper article extolling their wares was dated sept 2008 ie just pre crunch.

It would be surprising if this business continued to flourish post blog as the prices are so outrageous.

I will watch the websites with interest.

mumzy · 13/03/2010 08:18

Twas watching the BBC 10 o'clock news last night when they were interviewing Justine at mumsnet HQ about the election and guess what was hanging up on the wall behing here YES THIS!

so these trustafarians have now infiltrated MN

mumzy · 13/03/2010 08:19

I meant "behind her"

spiderpig8 · 13/03/2010 09:52

What a vile thread- has it not occurred to you that with 6 children she might be a MNer.Inverted snobbery is so nasty

Inverted snobbery is nasty.

So is fleecing people.

IMO.

gramercy · 13/03/2010 12:49

What has the six children and a MNetter got to do with anything?

What is gross is that they are so boastful and completely lacking in any irony or humour when they brag about their life.

OP posts:
hatwoman · 13/03/2010 13:04

the piss taking is not inveted snobbery - it's not because they are rich and gentry. it's because they are so spectacularly lacking in self-awareness and awareness of the world around them. I don;t judge people for being rich. but reserve the right to be a bit judgey about how they handle their wealth.

gibbberish · 13/03/2010 13:18

Can I just ask, what is a 'family yomp'??

Whatever it is I want one!

tartyhighheels · 13/03/2010 13:21

OH MY FUCKING GOODNESS HOW FUCKING UNSPEAKABLY FUCKING SMUG CAN YOU FUCKING GET !!!!!!!!!!!!

we are completely fabulous, don't you wish you were like us??

I'm actually afraid for them. Have known similar people and somehow something bad always happens to them.
Smugness is dangerous.

butadream · 13/03/2010 14:24

Surely they don't actually write their own blog anyway, I would imagine their PR people just think the smug vibe sells well.

Pumphreydidit · 13/03/2010 14:30

Not jealousy DavidHappyDad, just a failure to understand why there is a market for such needless and expensive tat and a failure to understand why that family exposed their children to ridicule.

JackBauer · 13/03/2010 16:01

IMO if you put yourself and your family up on a blog and website you invite comment and shouldn't get pissy if the comments you get aren't to your liking.

Pumphreydidit · 13/03/2010 16:14

Perhaps like cheese strings but with angst

MarshaBrady · 13/03/2010 16:21

I don't mind what they choose to fritter their time and money on. If a website peddling tat is their thing, then fab.

I do object to their bad taste, most of the stuff is hideous. That castle is beautiful on the outside (especially the vine) but why throw up all over the interior with union jack flags.

JackBauer · 13/03/2010 19:41

at 'why throw up all over the interior with union jack flags'

mathanxiety · 13/03/2010 19:46

They manage to sound like a judgey little clique in their blog -- 'we' love, 'we' find something ridiculous, etc. Or maybe it's a case of the royal we?

Here's a snippet: "Some bits of Shoreditch are a bit too trendy for their own good." They go on to comment on "amazing walking sticks decorated in cotton...for 250 a pop." (sic) No sense of irony.

MissWorldSheep · 30/08/2010 12:10

lolol

Xenia · 30/08/2010 12:49

It's a free market and we have free speech. Some business people hide their children and others use them in advertising etc. If you put yourself up you get stones thrown at you. I've sometimes majored on having 5 children because I think it's important people realise you can be successful in business as a woman, work full time and have a lot of children.

What is smug anyone? Everyone whatever they earn has problems, relatives die, teenagers are difficult. Whatever your class these things are much the same. But Britain is full of jealous people - in the US People would say wow I could get to earn what they do or buy that life and in the UK they just sit there going green but never of course getting on their bike and actually working hard enough so that they get those things if indeed they want those things/large family or whatever it might.

MissWorldSheep · 30/08/2010 12:56

doesnt mean the americans are right

NoelEdmondshair · 30/08/2010 12:58

Oh, please, not the tired Brits-are-jealous-of-success-whereas-Yanks-celebrate-it cliche.
