To expect that at 32 I was past all the someone waiting for me at the gates at 3 o clock to batter me....well it would seem not!!

There was an incident at DD's school on Monday, a game went wrong and a boy ended up wrapping a skipping rope around a girl's throat, outcome was the girl got quite badly hurt and it was fairly serious.

Now the story i have heard from DD and the story that has come from the school are very different.

So, today i am sitting in work and i get a phone call from the school, warning me that through some kind of crossed wires the mum of the girl has been informed that my DD was in some way involved in the whole incident, and she is now "on the war path" and will, apparently, be waiting for me at 3 o clock. I mean in what kind of bizarre world is that a normal conversation to have with your child's school!

The mum is not someone you would ever want to be on the wrong side of and apparently there is nothing the school can do!

Really, I am 32...a reasonable person and I don't fight!!

Sigh... might have to ditch my shiney ballet pumps for some steel toe capped boots on the way home!

expat, I actually think firearms are soooo not cool. You could say that where I'm from we have an issue with firearms too, but nowt to boast about.

However you may have been tongue-in-cheek, it's hard to tell.

Glad it's sorted EW although I second others and would be calling the school into question.

How was this boy able to inflict such injuries on a girl without being seen by staff?
Where was the playground TA?
Will there be any disciplinaries over that incident?

Who gave out the list of names any by what authority did they do so?
Does the Head not have a deputy Head who is in charge when she is out - or does the whole school suddenly fall apart the minute the Head steps out of the door?
Will there be any disciplinary action taken over this incident?

What measures will the school put in place to ensure safety and privacy of pupils in the future? Because if they cannot guarantee the safety and privacy of their pupils then I would make sure that my dd was not one of their pupils.

saggyjuju - are you a member of my family by any chance? The only thing you can do with a family like that is to sever all ties. Lead your own life and don't get involved, don't try to patch things up, don't try to exact revenge, don't do anything. If they want you, they know where you are. The best form of revenge is to be happy with your life and be successful. It works for me

jenduff · 11/03/2010 09:49

EW thanks for updating - glad its sorted but still unimpressed with school for all the reasons everyone has stated

expatinscotland · 11/03/2010 09:50

tongue in cheek, rhu.

obviously i no longer live in place where firearms are permissable and live in such a place voluntarily.

Rhubarb · 11/03/2010 10:07

They might not be permissable but unfortunately still common, not where you are though I shouldn't have thought.

Did you hear about the 3yo girl who thought her dad's gun was a Wii remote and shot herself? He had got it out during the night because he thought he heard an intruder and he hadn't put it away again afterwards.

Scary to think that their first reaction is to get out a gun and shoot whoever might be on their property.

I used to do Home Care in Oxford whilst at Uni (not Oxford Uni though, thankfully) and I used to go in to this old guy and make him breakfast. Smoked kippers and poached eggs every time! Anyway he sat with a very old revolver by his side ready to shoot anyone who came in that he didn't recognise. Trouble was that his eyesight wasn't great and his hands were terribly shaky. Everytime I went in I would wave my hands about and shout "It's ME! DON'T SHOOT!" One time I couldn't pull my hood down quick enough and I saw him actually go for his gun!

Anyway, bit off topic there. These days they just use dogs and foul language. I actually do get very het up about anti-social behaviour. It riles me no end and I've tackled more teenagers in the past than I probably should have. Parents should be compelled to teach their children manners, it should be LAW goddamit!

ElizabethWakefield · 11/03/2010 10:12

You are all nuts! I think I will try to sort it all out through the medium of dance, I am sure i am more graceful that crazymum, so I could challenge her to a dance off.

Although I did at me being a posh bird! I'm glad that's the image you have.

Weegie, I'd rather not say as I had to name change and get my old posts all deleted a while ago, but we have spoken before and it is a school fairly near your kids. (I'm not a stalker, honestly )

I am actually going to have a word (an actual word not a euphemism for slapping her or anything) with crzy mum today i think, to try to clear the air.

I honestly don't think i will take it any further, the head was very apologetic and it is quite obvious that a major mess has been made of it all. I can't really see what else i can expect.

If I was crazymum, I think I would perhaps take it further, but I don't really feel it is my place now. As far as i am concerned, I was wrongly involved, the head has accepted responsibility, apologised, and I don't think a list of names will ever be give out again.

Sounds like a very badly run school to me. These are two serious incidents. An apology wouldn't cut it with me, it just wouldn't.

ElizabethWakefield · 11/03/2010 10:28

What would you expect? Genuine question, not trying to be picky.

I mean i imagine she is going to look into why it happened and speak to her staff and spent the full day yesterday investigating it.

There is a deputy head, but she is also a class teacher, the school is very small, there are only 5 classes for 7 year groups.

OP posts:
Rhubarb · 11/03/2010 10:52

Ok, I realise it's a small school but that's no reason why it can't be run properly.

All staff should have been trained in child protection. 2 members of their staff have failed, possibly three.

There should be two TAs on playground duty at all times. Because should there be an incident, the other acts as witness and also they are the ones who go for help whilst the other stays with the rest of the children. So if there was only one TA on duty, the school is failing in its duty of care.

If there were 2 TAs on duty then both have failed to supervise the children in their care properly (and it doesn't sound as though there are many children to supervise).

Another member of staff gave a parent a list of childrens names. That is a huge failing and puts the children in danger.

If the staff were properly trained and had attended child protection courses - which are compulsory when working within a school -that would never have happened.

I would want assurances that those staff members would be disciplined and re-trained. I would also want to know what measures the school are putting in place to ensure this never happens again.

It sounds as though the school is shoddily run, which is why an apology wouldn't cut it with me, I would want to see changes being made and an investigation carried out.

Wipes nose on back of hand and offers it to sunshine

ElizabethWakefield · 11/03/2010 17:04

Sorry for not updating sooner, I have just got back from A&E

I was walking along to school to collect DD and crazy woman grabbed me from behind and started strangling me, shouting "how do you like it eh?"

Not really, but i didn't want Pag to be disappointed again!

Nothing further to tell CW wasn't at the school today, so nothing further to report.

Rhubarb, I know what you are saying. There are 3 members of staff in the playground normally supervising the children. From what i have been told it happened just before the bell rang and the supervisors were starting to collect in the play equipment and never noticed what was happening. Obviously, that is not good enough but that seemed to be what happened. It was one of the supervisors who works in the office who gave out the list of names.

So one person did mess up in the head's absence. But i was assured that it was a mistake and it wont happen again and I got an apology, I am actually ok with that for my part in the whole incident.

If my DD was the one hurt, I think I would demand more, but i think it's not really my place to argue that point with the head. Although the head spent hours with the girl's mum and dad yesterday and I am sure they demanded more and perhaps there will be disciplines etc, but i don't really think i would have been told about that, as it's not really my issue, iykwim, but i do think it is being fully investigated.

hee hee i was poised too - yes change name to crazy woman in playground and have a raging online scrap

Mallenstreak · 11/03/2010 20:13

Glad all sorted. Reminds me of the time a Vikki Pollard/Shameless type turned up on our doorstep wanting a fight with DH. You wouldn't believe the language! The funny thing was she was wearing her slippers and pyjamas under her old anorak so didn't exactly project the 'hard' image she wanted to

thesunshinesbrightly · 11/03/2010 20:16
StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 11/03/2010 20:18

I suppose it would depend on the pyjamas, Mallenstreak. Forever Friends ones wouldn't be terribly scary, but leopard print might be more worrying. And maybe she knew a supplier of ToeTector Steelcapped Slippers.
