...to want DS's nursery to not use words like "ta" and "doggie"?

I understand the benefit of getting babies/young toddlers into the habit of saying "ta" instead of thankyou as it's easier to say, but when they're 2+ and saying thankyou perfectly well, isn't this a bit infantile?

And why doggie?? Surely dog is easier and straight to the point.

Am I just a snob?

I use ta in general conversation sometimes, seems common in NE England where I lived for some time. I don't think of it as baby language, more like saying hi instead of hello or bye instead of goodbye.
It sounds a trivial thing to fuss about. Let them get on with it or keep your kids at home.

Try as I might to explain to her how babyish it sounds, my DD insists on saying 'donkey' rather than 'donk'.

"When we were both in the forces we were making over double the money but were way poorer as we bought a load of useless rubbish on impulse as we werent happy. Now I have everything I need, fulfilling job and family I dont feel the need to waste money on shopping though. Its the best decision I have ever made. You cant buy back time."

You view money in a similar way to me. We're not rich or poor but somewhere in the middle I'd say. We are frugle with what we have, we spend it wisely and we don't fritter it away on materialistic stuff. I'd rather live that way than be rich or very wealthy. Best to have a job you enjoy, rather than looking at the £££.

Another way of looking at it, if you won the lottery and had all the money you could ever want/need, you'd be left with nothing to wish for.

I remember meeting a bank manager who gave up her job full time, she said the money wasn't enough for her to stay in her position it was just too stressful. what a life. she's now a nursing assistant and v v happy. her quality of life is the best it's been since she reduced her salary to that of a nursing assistant.

have to agree that "ta" is just a horrible word. Don't have a problem with doggy though.

my other pet hate (which i don't think my nursery uses) is "bum" - bottom please!

I totally agree with you lovechoc. You spend a lot of time at work so might as well do something you enjoy. I wouldnt want to much stress either as that can destroy families and ruin your health.

pinkyponk Why aren't nannies supposed to use baby speak?

PCS So you wouldn't be proud if they set up their own nursery? Or if they became a nanny to some really rich person and earnt loads
