To just not 'get the 'daily flying' lists which include things like "Had a shower.." ?

Firstly, yes, I know IABU, but seriously, can someone explain why people make these long lists of things which include "put the dishwasher on" or "ate breakfast" or "cleaned teeth" as if they are some kind of major achievements on a to-do list?

Surely these are just things you do automatically, as part of living, non?

Surely it takes as long to type these things down, as it does to do them?

So what's the point? Seems a sort of self-delusion of leading a busy, productive lifestyle?

Isn't it all a bit, well, meh?

well biscuits and tough love sounds like just the ticket
but I dont like tea

Hullygully · 08/02/2010 18:02

Trinity, forgive yourself and know that it will get better because it does in spite of us.

Do you know what chablis, I really hope that you never get to such a low point as you seem so scornful of people who have. Would you feel such contempt for people who struggle with the basics if you were one?

threetimemummy · 08/02/2010 18:06

Trinity - I have been there I understand. Did you see the bit where i called DH? I couldnt even SEE the trousers, even though they were right there. So I get it.. I do. Please be kind to yourself. Please keep going. it WILL get better. There is no way I thought I would get it together. It is a long and hard road. But you CAN do it, I promise.

Mermaidspam · 08/02/2010 18:11

3xmum - with all due respect, not finding trousers is a little different to Trinity's personal situation.

Chablis · 08/02/2010 18:13

People are not reading the original post...

Where did I ever say I had a problem with lists Threetimemummy's, and others which include 'don't forget' items like 'Buy masking tape' or 'Clothes from dry cleaners' etc?

(I didn't) We all have lists like that...

It's posts in 'Good Housekeeping' which include Wake Up/ Brush teeth/ Have shower etc that I just find plain weird. (Each to their own BTW - no need to swear at me about it...)

Toccata (and whoever it was said I didn't sound like I had anything to do)- I do all the things on your list

shower
cook dinner
take the DC to school
empty/load the dishwasher or wash up
do washing
tidy up
eat breakfast

and I do them ALL, EVERY DAY (as do, I imagine 80% of people posting on Mumsnet)
And actually, I do nearly all of them (except cook dinner) in the first hour of the day, before the beginning of what I consider to be the 'start' of my day (when I start working). Perhaps that's why I find it strange to have seen that people list them as 'to-do's on the Good Housekeeping threads.
I was just surprised, and believe it or not, genuinely interested as to why people would bother including them.

Now I understand that for some people it's harder to get through even these most basic of tasks due to caring commitments, depression etc and I've already said I wasn't aware of that.

But some people have already said they put on things which they've already done to give them something to tick off....

"Ha Ha what a bunch of lazy, self-deluded tossers you are - no wonder the country is in such a mess, if this is the manifestation of the prevailing 'work ethic' in Britain today"

Is that what you'd like me to say, so that you can put me into your organised little box marked 'judgemental cow'?

(P.S. Bibbity - not my first post BTW - at least 60+ via my search...)

threetimemummy · 08/02/2010 18:15

Mermaid. I agree. the trousers were a symptom, though.

But I apologise.

wordsonascreen · 08/02/2010 18:16

OP is this some sort of MN bingo?

ToccataAndFudge · 08/02/2010 18:18

of fuck off Chablis

go back to your perfect little life, I suppose your house is immaculate and you don't have any systems/order to keeping it that way, it just happens

ToccataAndFudge · 08/02/2010 18:20

is tidying up and doing the washing not part of housekeeping??

DorotheaPlenticlew · 08/02/2010 18:20

Seriously, Chablis ... you might want to stop digging!

Chablis · 08/02/2010 18:22

Dorothea

Nope, double-checked, but digging isn't on my list for today....

OP posts:
ToccataAndFudge · 08/02/2010 18:27

you know what

some people are "natural" parents - they find it all a breeze and it comes "naturally" to them with very little effort

some people find it easily to eat healthily, others need support and motivation.

some people are "naturally" good at being organised - others need help to do it.

Lots of people use reminders and lists to get stuff done,

tethersend · 08/02/2010 18:30

wordsonascreen, you have the best name on MN IMO...

FWIW, the first point on every 'to-do' list I make is 'Make a List', that way you can cross at least one thing off straight away and bask in the glory of your own efficacy.

oh yes isn't the OP big and clever.

Gone over to the slatterns and posted a "completed" taking the p*ss list

There ARE some people o that thread that are using it as a "crutch" right now just to get through the fucking day.

You're not big, you're not clever, and you need to get a fucking life.

Chablis · 08/02/2010 18:34

Oh c'mon Toccata - you're talking about something on a different scale now - of course we all have lists for things to do/buy/mend/order etc

That's not what my OP was about at all - it was about the idea that someone bothers to write

woke up [done]

and suchlike.

Anyway, you have all made your points, some more eloquently than others so I'm off to

  • make tea [not done]
  • check homework [partially done]
  • bath kids [not done at all]

Don't get worked up about it - it wasn't intended to upset people - you've all misread stuff into my posts which wasn't there.

Chill.

  • drink wine
  • breathe deeply

[hugs]

no you've crossed a fucking line posting that list on there.

You don't "get it" - that's fine - no-one is asking you to "get it"

I don't "get" many "ongoing" threads on MN -

Doesn't mean I can just go around ripping the p*ss out of them.

Are ou going to go on the slimming thread now and post that you've eat cream cakes, crisps and chocolate all day - no I thought not

GibbonInARibbon · 08/02/2010 18:42

Cannot believe you went onto that thread and posted a sarcastic list.

You are one of those people I like top refer to in life as an utter cunt (this absolutely is a personal attack btw)

Report me, delete this post [shrug] won't change the fact that you are, indeed, a complete and utter cunt.

Have a nice day now

wordsonascreen · 08/02/2010 18:43

[hugs]

Oh the irony !

Chablis you have ruined a perfectly good second rate wine for me.

I shall have to depart to Majestic forthwith.

[weep]

Mermaidspam · 08/02/2010 18:43

3xmum - I've been there, I totally get it, I've had similar experiences. (And no need to apologise, I just didn't know if you were aware).

Chablis, you have the empathy of a rock.
