To just not 'get the 'daily flying' lists which include things like "Had a shower.." ?

Firstly, yes, I know IABU, but seriously, can someone explain why people make these long lists of things which include "put the dishwasher on" or "ate breakfast" or "cleaned teeth" as if they are some kind of major achievements on a to-do list?

Surely these are just things you do automatically, as part of living, non?

Surely it takes as long to type these things down, as it does to do them?

So what's the point? Seems a sort of self-delusion of leading a busy, productive lifestyle?

Isn't it all a bit, well, meh?

[sigh]
here Jeremy, have my love. I have loads.

It is perkier than Hullys

threetimemummy · 08/02/2010 17:32

And I didnt sit here and write out that list - I copied and pasted it from a word doc!! LOL And really, most things take 5 mins if you do them every day. But it gives me a sense of achievement.

Bonsoir · 08/02/2010 17:36

All the things on the flylady lists are achievements. A lot of life is composed of micro-tasks. If you are depressed or even just having problems getting organised, it can be extremely useful to list the minutiae of life in order to see what you need to accomplish - and what you have indeed achieved - in the course of the day.

TrillianAstra · 08/02/2010 17:36

You're confusing FLY with the Slatterns.

Slatterns was started by FAQ when she was depressed and could do very little, and would then feel even worse when she thought that she had done nothing that day.

A list saying every little thing helps you to realise all the achievements you have made, even, when it feels as if you've done nothing.

TrillianAstra · 08/02/2010 17:36

Stray commas.

compo · 08/02/2010 17:37

I think it's more to do with loneliness and comaderie isn't it?
Instead of telling a real life person you've shined your sink you can post it on here to choruses of well done
it's like the slimming threads, no one else gives a shite what you had for brekkie but someone will on a slimming thread, ditto the ttc thread etc etc

JeremyVile · 08/02/2010 17:37

Aaaw Pag - thanks.
Hullys love was slightly flaccid to be honest.

threetimemummy · 08/02/2010 17:38

plus when people say "oh, you are a SAHM, what do you do all day?" I an hand them my list!!!

threetimemummy · 08/02/2010 17:38

sigh. can

pagwatch · 08/02/2010 17:39

You are very .welcome. I have plenty and it is always firm and determined

[boastful]

Hully has a good love supply but she speads it too thinly

[scornful]

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 17:40

hmm

op is trying to wind us up

you dont need to be depressed or grieving to get help with stuff from flylady

and dont tell us that we wasted time ticking off shower, eat.

stop being so fucking righteous

you can be quietly happy that you are so good at housework and organisation skills without making the rest of us feel worthless

compo · 08/02/2010 17:41

It's the t'internet innit
you don't go to a toddler group and say 'what are you having for dinner' everyone would think you were a loony tune

ToccataAndFudge · 08/02/2010 17:41

you know when I started those slatterns threads I had no idea they'd still be going so long afterwards

compo - I was going to say something about the "point" of the slimming threads as a comparison - but wasn't brave enough lol

I'm sure lots of people have little lists of things they need to do during the day, some of us just like to "expand" them into conversations via the computer >

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 17:42

and starting your op with 'yes, I know I'm being unreasonable....'

hmm try not bothering then

JeremyVile · 08/02/2010 17:44

Rofl @ Pag.

Dont give it a moments thought Trinity - such a blatant wind up. Its pathetic.

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 17:45

has to be a wind up
I mean noone is so stupid that they need to have it explained to them how it works

I means its obvious .....

waitingforglasto · 08/02/2010 17:47

Just ignore it Trinity - you'll just get wound up...

My 'pointless' list according to the OP would include getting my ds' hair cut tonight with dd in attendance wailing the place down - right proud of myself I am.

And dinners on and everything...

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 17:56

well I haven't written lists for months now
and I know I need to

at the moment we are living in squalor

I have to drag myself out of bed
I get out of bed so that I wont get in trouble with the school

thats the reason at the mo which means I eventually, alwasy late and with nothing clean, nothing found, things missing, homework not done I drag myself up

chuck biscuits or dry bread at the kids and try and find enough clothes to keep them warm and take them to school

I need lists
I need something to aim for

Hullygully · 08/02/2010 17:57
TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 17:58

a while ago I had mamnaged to make the reason in my head that eventually drags me out of bed to be because my dd's are very bright and deserve all the schooling oppotunity I can give them

we were still living in squalor, everything lost etc
but the reason was better and it got me up a tiny bit earlier and less shouty

I fucking hate myself right now

TrinityIsFallingApart · 08/02/2010 17:59

thanks chablis for ending up making me an outlet that was very cathartic

but do me another favour and get a grip

aSilverLining · 08/02/2010 18:00

wish I lived near you trinity, I would tempt you out of bed with biscuits and mugs of tea and tough love
