Every time he comes on I want to throw the screen out of the window.

I think he's hilarious, but each to their own, so no YANBU for having your own opinion.

Bucharest · 20/01/2010 09:16

I don't find him funny. Remotely.
I have horrid feeling he might be the Next Ricky Gervais. But posher. (ie all over the tv like a rash with only me (and you not getting it.)

Adair · 20/01/2010 09:17

well, i believe the whole comedy community hates him as he rose quickly without the 'slog' or something...

Fibilou · 20/01/2010 09:17

I also find Lee Evans highly annoyoing. According to my husband I have no sense of humour.

I just don't find all the prancing about and hyperactivity funny.

The thing is, Adair, I don't agree with the premise that you have to take the piss out of people to be funny and I do see the humour in a lot of his material - it's the over the top presentation that makes me want to bite something

It's weird, I thought he was pompous and a bit crap when I saw him on Live at the Apollo etc, but then for some reason ended up watching his first DVD and that was hilarious. The second one is not as good though.

Coldhands · 20/01/2010 09:20

YANBU. I do not get why people think this bloke is so funny. He isn't!! And Lee Evans? argghhhhhhhh. As funny as a good dose of syphillis (one would imagine ).

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 09:21

I love him. He's brillig.

You are wrong and unreasonable and without human emotion.

Skegness · 20/01/2010 09:21

yanbu. He's hideous.

frasersmummy · 20/01/2010 09:22

I love michael Mcintyre. I think he is hilarious and seems like a nice guy too

yanbu to hate him each to their own

I dont get Lee Evans either

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 09:23

Comedy is an idiosyncratic thing - I don't find slapstick funny, for example.

But I do think Michael McIntyre is very funny. I also think so-called more edgy comedians are very funny too.

But fuck me if it's all about being Tory!

I think what he represents is something that's a bit kinder. I fail to see why all comedy has to have 'an edge' - which is usually just an excuse for bitter, often foul-mouthed invective.

In the climate we've all endured over the last couple of years, I think there's nothing wrong with wanting something a bit gentler. But it doesn't have to mean unfunny.

In truth, I think his fellow peers dislike him because he's been so successful in such a short space of time. They are jealous.

Coldhands · 20/01/2010 09:23

I don't hate him. Can't hate someone I don't know, but I don't think he is funny. I prefer Billy Connelly but I know there are others who don't 'get' him either. Each to their own, humour wise.

BertieBotts · 20/01/2010 09:23

Oh yes Lee Evans - ah I see what you mean there. XP was obsessed with him though so I got a bit numb to it - some things he says are funny but sometimes he over-relies on the prancing etc, and the sweating makes me feel a bit sick, though apparently it's because he refuses to take a drug that most other performers take which minimises that, which I can understand.

Whippet · 20/01/2010 09:23

Like him. He's proved that you don't have to use F**ing as every second word to be a successful comedian... I think he is good at spotting all those things in everyday life that ARE a bit weird if you think about them.

But YANBU to have your own opinion (even if it IS flawed.... )

SchrodingersSexKitten · 20/01/2010 09:24

Who he?

shootfromthehip · 20/01/2010 09:24

Lee Evans, now there's someone who makes my blood pressure rise!

Michael Mac is very funny imo but the head bobbing grates on me so I can't watch him, just listen.

So YABU

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 09:28

You see Billy Connolly is okay (I have his folk albums!) but is obsessed with sex and wee jobbies. Michael McIntyre (and I say this as a diehard leftie pinko bleeding heart liberal) I like because I think his ability to find humour in the everyday without a peppering of offence and foul language is actually rather refreshing.

Although my heart currently belongs to the drinking, smoking, swearing Dylan Moran so I'm fickle.

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 09:29

And I can't listen to Sex On Fire or whatever it is without hearing McIntyre's clipped 'uh, darling?'

DelGirl · 20/01/2010 09:30

yanbu, can't stand the man!

Hulababy · 20/01/2010 09:32

yanbu for thinking it, but I do disagree. I think he is really funny. Went to see his show a few months ago and it was a great night, laughed so much.

Hulababy · 20/01/2010 09:33

"In truth, I think his fellow peers dislike him because he's been so successful in such a short space of time. They are jealous. "

BIWI - may be some truth in that.

I don't know who Lee Evans is, but I like Billy C.

The "edgy" ones, Frankie Boyle etc, have me pissing myself laughing half of the time, and cringing in disgust the other half.

havoc · 20/01/2010 09:36

I like him, but he is everywhere at the moment, definitely over exposed. TV always like the safe option, so they use the same few people for everything, and as a result, its easy to grow sick to the back teeth with them!

I used to like Billy Connolly, but I think he's turned into a bit of a dirty old man.
