Every time he comes on I want to throw the screen out of the window.

MM is hilarious, I love him!

If other comedians don't like him then it's only because they are jealous of his success.

I don't buy in to this idea that comedy has to be edgy, and dark, and full of swearing and rudeness.

nancydrewrocks · 20/01/2010 10:58

I don't hate him - he is just a bit...well...nothing IYKWIM.

I watched his DVD recently and although it was entertaining I didn't actually laugh once.

I prefer Frankie Boyle, Russ Howard, Jimmy Carr etc and I like watching Mock the Week and Have I got News for you etc

RocheMoutonee · 20/01/2010 11:01

i liked MM
but he wears thin

WeWantYourDoofDoofs · 20/01/2010 11:04

is this the Knob story?

tallulahbelly · 20/01/2010 11:04

A couple of Alan Davies knob stories.

He and a girlfriend were invited to a star-pocked fancy dress party and turned up to find that every one else was dressed normally.

She took it well and he had an enormous tantrum which caused even more hilarity than his stupid outfit.

I don't know what to think. I'd be annoyed if that happened to me but apparently the trick was played because a lot of the guests genuinely did regard him as a self important knob.

The other one was when he was going out with Julia Sawalha and had yet another tantrum when her sister Nadia sold her wedding to OK or Hello without telling him and presumably got a better price because two celebs were going to be there.

It caused a huge rift between the sisters because Alan Davies felt 'used'. The rift has now healed because Julia has broken up him and I believe both sisters have repeatedly described him as a knob.

Again, annoying, but it's a bit self-regarding, isn't it?

After all, our own dear Queen didn't throw her toys out of her carriage when Peter Phillips did the same thing with his wedding photos.

tallulahbelly · 20/01/2010 11:06

Or alternatively DoofDoofs, that really big one that I completely forgot.

deaddei · 20/01/2010 11:21

I do like him and secretly wouldn't kick him out of bed.

OtterInaSkoda · 20/01/2010 11:22

He is a bit obvious sometimes - like on Mock the Week he asked if we'd ever noticed that northerners say "t'". But harmless I guess.

TheArcaneMommy · 20/01/2010 11:32

oh I like Michael McIntyre. I also like Dara O'Briain.

I never used to like Ross Noble, although my dh loves him, i actually arranged as a surprise, for Dh to go and see Ross Noble with his friends for his 30th birthday. But the more I see of him the more I really like him.

Lee Evans, cant stand him.

Love Peter Kay, but he really needs to do some new stuff.

Frankie Boyle, cant stand him at all, think he is rude and unfunny. I love Mock the Week, but every time he speaks it makes me want to throw something at the tv, even his voice grates on me.

Rhod Gilbert and Dylan Moran for me, anyday

Georgimama · 20/01/2010 11:44

I love Michael MacIntyre. I do like Frankie Boyle although I would imagine I would be everything he would despise.

I love Bill Bailey. His U2 impression made me cry with laughter. I also love the Iranian guy with the south London accent - he is in danger of over exposure though now he is doing those adverts.

Jo Brand was very very very funny live in a regional city hall full of tanked up women.

The rudest comedian (and this will surprise no one) was Jim Davidson. He was guest speaker at a big dinner I went to and he was fucking rude to everyone he picked out of the audience, including me. Not witty or pithy, just fucking rude and a bit pissed. Not clever.

mayorquimby · 20/01/2010 11:46

I think he's alright. Not every comedian has to be ground-breaking and thought provocking. I think he plays to his strengths/market and works well as an innoffensive family friendly comedian.

NorbertDentressangle · 20/01/2010 11:47

I like Michael MacIntyres's observational humour but I do find his mannerisms (head bobbing etc) annoying to watch.

Also, his voice is starting to sound more like an impressionist doing an impression of him than MM himself IYSWIM. He needs to tone down the "poshness" a bit.

Can't stand Lee Evans -now there is one person that just makes me switch off the TV instantly.

MmeLindt · 20/01/2010 11:49

I like Michael McIntyre, he has the same skill as Billy Connelly, to be able to find humour in completely normal everyday situations. Just without the jobbie jokes.

There was a guy on his show a while back who told a hysterical story about his suitcase. He was incredibly funny, forgotten his name. I think he was welsh. Anyone know him?

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2010 13:18

That's Rhod Gilbert, Mme. Very funny.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Eddie Izzard! Very funny and very sexy. IMHO.

Sassybeast · 20/01/2010 13:21

I love him - he makes me cry with laughter. He doesn't have to resort to gutter humour a la Billy Connolly etc to get people laughing. Now, who wants to taste the wine ?

LetThereBeRock · 20/01/2010 13:26

Eddie Izzard is great.

I do like Michael McIntyre though my worst nightmare involves being trapped in a lift with him.

I like Billy Connolly though his head has been firmly imbedded up his own arse for some time. He does this awful thing of mentioning now again how he's 'a showbiz personality' just to remind the audience that he isn't really like them, and I'm not convinced it's a joke.

Dara O'Brian is very funny. I'd like to see him live.

Pete Kay is good.

I'll second old school Jasper Carrot.

Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey are probably my favourites.

I have tried to watch Ross Noble and I do not get him at all.

Ricky Gervais isn't funny when he's doing standup.
I enjoy edgy humour but the whole point of his act seems to consist of him seeing just how offensive he can be not how funny.

LimburgseVlaai · 20/01/2010 13:33

I find McIntyre a bit bleh. In a way he has taken over from Victoria Wood. Mildly amusing but not lol. What I do find annoying about him is that he always seems to be laughing at his own jokes.

I enjoy Mock the Week, but sometimes they have this tall American guy (Canadian? sorry) who makes "My wife is so ugly" jokes. I'm always surprised that they invite him onto the show - he seems at least 30 years past the sell-by date.

UnquietDad · 20/01/2010 14:05

I like Ed Byrne - his stuff about weddings, and the story about the girl with 'Gorgeous' on her arse.

thesunshinesbrightly · 20/01/2010 14:24

Can't stand most of them, don't find them funny, Lee Evan's i can't stand.

Love Michael though

corriefan · 20/01/2010 14:35

I like him, I like not feeling uncomfortable but then I also thought Bruno was hilarious despite wanting to hide behind the sofa.

I also read an interview with MM where he went on and on about how he's been doing the clubs for years and has always been slated and ignored by the critics because he wasn't harsh and so never got a break until recently. He's definitely not had an easy ride. His dad was a famous comedian too although I can't remember his name right now!

NorbertDentressangle · 20/01/2010 14:40

Didn't his Dad write material for Kenny Everitt or somebody??

Off to google now

NorbertDentressangle · 20/01/2010 14:42

Yes, here we go -I didn't imagine it:

"Early life
McIntyre was born in Merton and raised in Hampstead.[6] McIntyre's parents were both involved in showbusiness: his Canadian father, Ray Cameron, was the producer, writer and director of The Kenny Everett Television Show and his mother, Kati, was a dancer.[6] McIntyre's parents divorced when he was seven, after which Cameron remarried and moved to Los Angeles.[6] Cameron died of a heart attack when McIntyre was 17"

(from Wiki)

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 14:47

OI. I mentioned Eddie Izzard.

Am I invisible?

Jim Davidson, for example...

MM's Dad was a comedy writer, wrote for KE.

Victoria Wood is a superb observational comedien. Her writing is fab. Not many great female stand-ups getting exposure atm. Sarah Millican and Shappi Khorsandi seem to be it atm.
