I have read so many posts tonight that are not short of bullying to be honest. So someone has questions and ideas that do not sound particulary sane, so what! This is exactly why some people "including me" are a little worried about posting thier ideas, fears, little problems that to the individual are huge but to some of you lot are funny or total lies that you can belittle and make fun off.

If that is what mumsnet is all about then you carry on

so you won't be sticking around?

shame.

Mumsnet is so, so much deeper than that... so much deeper.

cornsilkscatholichamster · 11/01/2010 23:26

TROLL

justsue · 11/01/2010 23:28

I log on to mumsnet every day at lunch and sometimes like now when I am not tired to find interesting, funny, sad, everyday life that I can relate to. What I cannot relate to is almost a form of bullying via the internet, so I click of the subject and go and find something interesting instead

thanks

But trolls want the attention.
They love it when a bun fight ensues

It is very rare that I have read a thread where the op is accused of being a troll and then turns out to be genuine

You need to hunt a lot harder to discover what mumsnet is really all about than reading a few troll threads

Especially when the trolls are as 'active' as they have been in the last few days

BitOfFun · 11/01/2010 23:30

An awful lot of new posters don't like it. But if it didn't happen and all the snowbound trolls were allowed freerein to suck people in and humiliate them for their credulity, then MN would disintegrate. The difference between this site and some others is that people generally aren't suckers. It is good to get rid of the pisstakers.

twinmam · 11/01/2010 23:32

A thread about a thread about a thread. What is going on tonight?

Justsue, the questions and ideas to which you're referring have upset a lot of people. They would "include me" if I was still in the incredibly vulnerable position I was after a traumatic birth and a failure to establish breastfeeding. Fortunately I don't give a toss now what anyone thinks about how I fed my DCs or how I coped(only just) at an incredibly difficult time.

I DO give a toss however if people are brandishing around ideas that are in extremely bad taste about breast cancer and about women who struggle to feed. This is partly because my mum had breast cancer and partly because I remember how badly the guilt used to affect me to the extent that I felt I had failed my DDs.

The breastfeeding thread is not someone posting about a 'fear'. It is someone posting some really quite outrageous thoughts about other women which are deliberately provocative and downright nasty.

As far as I'm concerned, that isn't what MN is all about and that's why I've posted on that particular thread.

MillyR · 11/01/2010 23:33

Justsue, I only post on AIBU if I am in sturdy frame of mind. There are nice areas of MN for nice people.

justsue · 11/01/2010 23:33

I would love a good debate like most of you but for us "newbies" it can be a little scary when you want to post something and everyone screams "liar liar troll troll"

Surely you can see where I am coming from and it aint the local mental hospital lol

OP posts:
gaelicsheep · 11/01/2010 23:35

BitOfFun - it isn't just new posters that don't like it. WWC's shot herself in the foot now, but as I said on the other thread that isn't the point.

Twinmam - I don't think justsue has that particular thread in mind.

MillyR · 11/01/2010 23:36

Everyone does not always shout Troll and liar though. On the first AIBU thread I ever started I was massacred and reviled but nobody said I was a liar.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/01/2010 23:36

you need to have camping, style and beauty and sleb twaddle only

MN is surprisingly serene used in this way

TM Slubbers

(where is she btw??)

cornsilkscatholichamster · 11/01/2010 23:37

I always miss the troll threads. Style and beauty/chat are usually safe havens.

justsue · 11/01/2010 23:37

HEY slow down I am not here for any arguement or to put anyone down in any shape or form. It was a comment not against anyone or any chat that has gone on.

claw3 · 11/01/2010 23:38

Arent most threads in aibu started by trolls?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/01/2010 23:38

corny xposted

mummysgoingmad · 11/01/2010 23:38

i know exactly what you mean and have said as much on the other thread. I log on to get information from other mums or to give my advice where i can. I have been thinking this if happened on the play ground the mothers who are posting would go nuts.. probably. what they dont seem to realise is they are play ground bullys themselves! there is absolutly no need to get personal, which most of these people have done! utterly disgraceful!

cornsilkscatholichamster · 11/01/2010 23:39
VinegarTits · 11/01/2010 23:39

it must seem quite daunting to newbie when there are lots of trolls and we are giving them abuse trying to chase them away

But believe me trolls can turn out to be quite nasty, vindictive and suck people in, and people get hurt by them, so we show them that we are not push overs, very really does a genuine poster get called a troll

justsue · 11/01/2010 23:40

cor was a bit worried there for a min lol. Anyway hello everyone its justsue im harmless honestly

OP posts:
LauraIngallsWilder · 11/01/2010 23:40

Justsue - honestly if you are genuine and you post about something for the most part people will believe you!

Trolls have a particular style of writing, a particular way of drip feeding information, dropping in extra details about stuff.
Or completely ignoring questions or advice given by mnetters
Or they get their story confused!

I dont find it unreasonable at all that regular mnetters get fed up of trolls and point them out. And those of us who spend too much time love mn are good at spotting them!!!!

Obviously shoutin troll all the time is annoying but in my experience it rarely happens to genuine posters

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/01/2010 23:40

erm you lot moaning - are you new?
