To want Chris Evans back on Drivetime?

It's just not the same without him. Yes, I know I can listen to him on the Breakfast Show but the radio goes on for a maximum of half an hour in the morning whereas I have it on all the time while Drivetime is on. It's just not the same.

Richard Bacon is a moron who hardly lets his guests speak and answer the question he is asking them himself and rund his show like some lads student hovel with crap joks and make ego jossling - total crap. I hate him on 5 Live on the evening show. It should have gone to Phill Williams, the show that is.

Simon Mayo was brilliant on 5 Live, some of the best interviews ever on radio. I am keeping all his podcasts just so I can here him!

I like Chris Evans, but like some of you, the radio on and being able to listen to it in the morning is a impossible.

Oohh I don't like change.

Georgimama · 12/01/2010 19:47

I do love Chris and I think today's show was much better. The phone ins are a major irritation - other people's children are not that enchanting, particularly when they come over all shy and don't spit out whatever cutsey anecdote their parents were desperate to share. Reading out emails from the wittier or stranger listeners, as TW did, is the way to go.

Cyb · 12/01/2010 19:49

So-Are we all in agreement, even those that LIKE CE? The phone ins are shit?

Georgimama · 12/01/2010 19:54

Yes they are. The phone interviews are fine - he is very good with people, brilliant with people in fact, but the general public just can't be trusted to hold up their end of the conversation in a sane manner (to wit that nutter yesterday on the 3 minute i/v thing. That segment worked today with that lovely food economist woman but if I had been CE yesterday I would have been seriously pissed off with whoever found that fucking fruitloop yesterday. His "I'm mad me!" drivel was not what someone essentially doing a first day at work with 5 million + people just waiting for something to not go well needs).

PrePopWarhol · 12/01/2010 19:55

Yes, phone ins are shit. Also the 'phone-ees' (who seem to be, without exception, completely moronic) always try to imitate CE's intonation which is even more irritating.Grrrr.

PrePopWarhol · 12/01/2010 19:56

Agree food economist woman was good. Didnt mind that.

ButtercupWafflehead · 12/01/2010 20:07

Agree about phone-ins, particularly when phone in-ers start with "Hi there Christophe..." like they are bezzie mates.

I do like CE in the morning though. Reminds me of happy days waiting for the school bus and watching Chris and Gabby on the Big Breakfast.

kittya · 12/01/2010 20:42

They need to get rid of Steve Wright, I cant bear him. Mark Radcliffe for Drivetime I say. Its a shame Jonathon Ross is going as I like his radio 2 show.

arcticwind · 12/01/2010 21:16

Am I the only one who likes Steve Wright?

I agree that RA would be much better for drivetime, cannot stand SM but rarely listen now, thankfully, as I get the bus from work, and school run is SW time

Really miss TW - he is irreplaceable; have only heard about 20 mins of CE today but felt OK so far ...

Ineedsomesleep · 12/01/2010 21:48

Loved CE on drivetime but not in the morning. Much preferred TW's gentle approach to waking up.

As for SM, he is worse than SW. Mark Radcliffe for the "Big Show" and RA for drivetime.

domesticslattern · 12/01/2010 21:53

I had moved from the Today Programme because I couldn't bear all the shouting over breakfast. Now that R2 has gone all kerazy shouty in the morning I have no idea what I'm going to listen to. I've given it two days and I think tomorrow we're going to sit around and eat our shreddies in monastic silence.

Bring back Terry!

And gutted to lose Jonathan Ross too.

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 21:56

I don't know what to put on either It's all a bit hurt your ears

domesticslattern · 12/01/2010 21:58

Seriously, any alternatives out there?

catastrojb · 12/01/2010 22:12

i rather liked it - reminded me of years ago when he was on radio 1! i get up at 6 though, so am well awake by then. and less time with sk is definitely a bonus - everytime she says "see you tomorrow - if we're spared!" i want to jab an underwire in my eardrums. aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!! - but i like her newspaper review!
i do agree that there are too many pointless phone-ins on CE though.
SW is ok, i like the factoids! if liza tarbuck comes on, i turn over - she's utter rubbish. and don't get me started on alan carr.....

so that's my 2p worth!

Ineedsomesleep · 12/01/2010 22:24

Don't know of any reasonable alternatives DS. Although, we have started listening to R3 at teatime, mainly as it has a really strange affect on the DCs, they are quiet. Am a little worried about it though, does listening to R3 make me middleclass or weird just

dwpanxt · 12/01/2010 23:06

Well I listened to the first one but dont think I will change from the local station. I will miss him on drive time though

kittya · 12/01/2010 23:37

I love Liza Tarbuck and Mark Radcliffe!!! I cant stand Steve Wright but I love Sarah Kennedy on a morning.

RolandButter · 12/01/2010 23:43

ah
it was once extablished on a thread on here liza tarbuck si a a bitch in rl

someone worked with her

RolandButter · 12/01/2010 23:43

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sleb_twaddle/651236-Last-night-I-saw-Liza-Tarbuck-on-Charlie-Brooker-39?reverse =1

kittya · 12/01/2010 23:58

You could say thatabout alot of people though. We all have bad days!! They said Michael Jackson was a fruitcake but I heard from a two friends that he was perfectly nice and normal and, thats true!

maxybrown · 13/01/2010 07:49

regardless of how Liza Tarbuck is in RL, i can't STAND her on the radio her voice grates. Makes me want to do some damage to myself (or pref her) when she has stood in for others. Urgh. Turned Chris off already now DH has gone to work to watch the weather on TV instead

kittywise · 13/01/2010 07:52

You see I have become fond of Sarah kennedy, having listened for years. It's slow and gentle and innocuous. Then at 7 we have this horrible shouting hyper man. Everything about it is too loud and too quick. He needs to slow down and quieten down big time.
I sadly think radio 2 is now not the station for me, after years of listening. There are more and more dj's who piss me off I can't stand JV or SW. Ken bruce sends me to sleep. Ce is plain awful. Simon Mayo is boring.
I like JW, love SM. I find myself listening more and more to radio 4. But I find that they are really up themselves. So then, is it radio 3 for me is this middle age now????

I really hope someone from radio 2 is reading this thread!!

Georgimama · 13/01/2010 07:53

It's going rather well this morning so far. He and Johnny are a good double act (hope Johnny is on a decent whack - he does a lot more than the sports bulletin) and they seem less manical today.

maxybrown · 13/01/2010 07:57

Can't stnad Johnny - he needs shooting! But I have to say it wasn't quite so shouty when I listened.......it is boring though. Fed up of the phone ins

TheFoosa · 13/01/2010 08:29

Simon Mayo was great on fivelive, but I don't think he suits R2 at all

He left fivelive because he didn't want to move up north (who could blame him)

as for Richard Bacon, it is all about HIM, he is terrible
