To want Chris Evans back on Drivetime?

It's just not the same without him. Yes, I know I can listen to him on the Breakfast Show but the radio goes on for a maximum of half an hour in the morning whereas I have it on all the time while Drivetime is on. It's just not the same.

Oh, and I loved Fern. And I think you underuse Claudia and Liza. Both are BRILLIANT. Boot out boring old Steve Wright and put Liza in instead. Preferably with the odd appearance from Fun Lovin' Huey.

policygarry · 12/01/2010 11:28

YANBU. Get CE back on Drive and GIVE ME BACK MY PEERLESS SIMON MAYO ON 5LIVE

I thank you

willowstar · 12/01/2010 11:37

well I tuned into radio 2 this morning for a change because CE was doing it...I didn't listen to TW because i found his voice so lilting I would miss half of what he was saying...much prefer CE.

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 11:41

Yes far TOO LOUD he really needs to ditch Johnny sports, it is all too hospital radio

MrsWembley · 12/01/2010 11:46

Reading this, I have noticed a distinct appreciation of RA. Why not, therefore, have him do the breakfast slot and the drivetime slot. A lot of people don't seem to like The Little Welsh One either, so he could do Sundays. SK drives me up the wall and as my DP's alarm goes off at 5.30am I'm v (f) pissed off that she now starts early and I miss the strangeness of AL for his last half hour. A lot of people seem to agree with me, so RA could cover for her too. Jezza is a complete plank, pretending to know about stuff then showing his uter utter ignorance in his questions. I've never taken him seriously since the farce that was his interivew with Richard Dawkins. RA (or indeed Ferne, she is quite lovely) could do lunchtime, then. Ken can stay, but only because of the Pop Quiz. It is the only redeeming feature of two and a half hours of drivel. I try to switch off (my mind, that is, not the radio) between tracks. SW often shows his lack of anything resembling an education (worldly as well as academic) as well, but the music he plays is quite good, and he reminds me of listening to Radio One as a teenager, so he can stay.

I believe this should sort it out. Anything after the drivetime show is usually specialist and so nothing to do with me. I'm watching Scrubs by then, anyway.

MrsWembley · 12/01/2010 11:52

Sorry, forgot about Radcliffe and Maconi. Both brill and as a pair they show that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts (or whatever). They could do lunchtime. What interviews they could do!!

Do quite like SM on drivetime. Like it's been said, reminds me of Radio One as a teenager.

PuppyMonkey · 12/01/2010 11:56

Ooh no Mrs W, I bloody love Ken Bruce. He needs to do the whole day imho.

Hate Steve Wright, I liked it when Craig Charles did his show just before Christmas.

Not listening to Evans, have resorted to Radio Nottingham in the morning. That's how bad things have got.

Quite like Mayo, we'll get used to him.

Who's gonna replace Wossy on Sat am? That's the big question.

wordgirl · 12/01/2010 11:56

God not Richard Allinson, please. I know they have to drag him in when they can't get anybody else to cover but I think I would have to switch my radio off for good if he ever got a permanent slot. He really is awful. Have you heard him doing interviews? Cringeworthy. Apart from that he is just bland (IMO of course). Can't believe how many of you actually like him.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 12/01/2010 11:56

I am finding CE too loud and excitable for 7am (loved his drive-time show). I have shuffled back to Six Music and my lovely Shaun. I love Radio 4 but I need some music to get my brain working.

I now have Listen Again on two of my radios, so I am going to give Chris a chance later in the day (in between repeating Guy Garvey's Finest Hour which is pure genius and very chilled and Lauren Laverne's show which is also top quality).

DarrellRivers · 12/01/2010 11:57

I listened this morning
It was just too bouncy and inane
Back to R4 for me
I like Ken Bruce, RA and JW

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 12/01/2010 12:01

The Wossy question. I would like:

Mark Kermode to take over Film 2010

Graham Norton to be bumped up from BBC Two to cover chat show duties

Gideon Coe or Liza Tarbuck to take over from Wossy

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 12:09

Apparently it is going to be Mark lamar (or however you spell it) HIDEOUS!!!!

moodlum · 12/01/2010 12:10

GOD NO to Richard Allinson. He is one of the few presenters I leap at the radio to turn off as soon as he comes on. Big nooo. Liza T all the way.

InNeedOfAGoodName · 12/01/2010 12:39

Wasn't impressed with CE in the morning, his style suits Drivetime better. SM harmless if a bit dull and agree that missing SK can only be a good thing!

flashharriet · 12/01/2010 12:47

Mark Lamarr on Sat mornings? tHAT'S ok, ESPECIALLY IF HE DOES IT WITH JO bRAND (oops sorry)

policygarry · 12/01/2010 13:17

Don't talk about Saturday mornings. I'm still in mourning for Adam and Joe

Kermode for Film 20xx, Director General, Prime Minister etc

serinBrightside · 12/01/2010 13:23

Well I have given CE two days now and can't put up with any more of him, when are you going round Heqet?

He has obviously just found an old box of northern soul records and decided to play them one after another.

Give Jonathan Ross his millions, he is the only one who could fill Terry's shoes.

Petall · 12/01/2010 13:33

I loved CE drivetime, made kids tea time fun! Not for breakfast though..............I need to ease in to the day not have mania on the radio as well as the kids refusing to get ready!! TOOOOOOOO much.
Agree Simon Mayo too mellow, I miss Johny Walker too, think Richard Bacon or Allinson much better choice.
Or.............. CE back to drivetime and one of the Richards for breakfast or even Aled Jones is calmer!!!

HinnyPet · 12/01/2010 13:45

Actually I think that is an interesting idea.
Jonathan Ross on R2 breakfast..it could work ..

jennymac · 12/01/2010 14:06

I miss Terry. Chris is ok but a bit too much fake laughing and "look how funny we all our" at things that aren't remotely funny.

jennymac · 12/01/2010 14:10

Just saw messages about JR replacing TW on breakfast - best idea I have ever heard! Was devastated when I heard he had quit BBC - his Sat morning show is ace.

Calyx · 12/01/2010 14:14

I thought Chris Evans was an improvement on Terry Wogan on drivetime; Terry has a LOVELY voice but was getting soooo formulaic with the 'poems' from listeners, reading stuff out from the listeners, bacon butty banter etc... just the same old same old every single day. I liked Chris today (missed yesterday as had the day off work) and am looking forward to hearing more.

Miss him on drivetime though.

Calyx · 12/01/2010 14:15

Ooops was an improvement on Terry Wogan on BREAKFAST sorry!

sazlocks · 12/01/2010 14:30

I love CE but am hedging my bets so far as I think its going to take a while before he really settles in to that new slot. I liked TW and esp the Janet and John bit

I am on mat leave at the mo so don't get to do that drive home so not had a chance to miss CE in the evenings yet. I caught a bit of SM last night and that pontunes thing was total bobbins. Jury well and truly out on whether SM will suceed in that slot.

kitpuss · 12/01/2010 14:35

I am wondering if a lot of these likes and dislikes are to do with our ages - I'm in my early thirties and like Simon and Chris but don't like Terry, Ken or Richard Allinson.

I often think there should be a BBC radio station for those too old for Radio 1 but not quite old enough for Radio 2. Good idea eh??!!
