To want Chris Evans back on Drivetime?

It's just not the same without him. Yes, I know I can listen to him on the Breakfast Show but the radio goes on for a maximum of half an hour in the morning whereas I have it on all the time while Drivetime is on. It's just not the same.

I loved CE on drivetime but it doesn't work in the morning - so far. It feels like the drivetime show transposed to breakfast. Too loud. But I'm going to give him a chance because I'm sure they'll be listening carefully to feedback.

I remember CE saying a few weeks ago that in his rehearsals for the breakfast slot the producers had decided it was too noisy and he was working on calming it down.

Wossy for breakfast - I'd love that but Beeb wouldn't dare. Too many "older" listeners would walk away I think. They wouldn't turn their backs on CE unless the figures took an unprecedented and consistent nose dive though, would they/

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 14:47

Nah I'm early thirties and really miss Terry plus like ken and RA. i know DH who is a couple of yeas older than me misses Terry too. I also like Chris - just not in the morning as his show is at the minute. I wasn't even aprehensive before he took over either, so i imagine those who were are looking elsewhere.

RolandButter · 12/01/2010 14:52

the 7 55 am song was shit

why all this 60s crap
do NORMAL people not get up at 6am?

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 15:00

I like 60's stuff anyway, but TBH haven't noticed the music at all due to the rest of it being so shouty and irritating Didn't know you weren't normal if you liked 60's music!

ladymarian · 12/01/2010 15:25

YANBU - I loved his drivetime show!

I haven't listened in the morning yet as I just know I'll be disappointed...

Simon Mayo is OK but they should have had Radcliffe and Maconie on at drivetime. I love it when Steve Wright is on holiday and they get Mark Radcliffe and Liza Tarbuck or Emma Forbes to cover - they are really good!

NoseyNooNoo · 12/01/2010 15:26

I'm disappointed by his breakfast show - I'm not sure he's played any music released after I was born.

As for replacing Wossy, I'd love it to be Liza Tarbuck - she makes me cry with laughter when she stands in for Wossy.

RolandButter · 12/01/2010 15:26

yes modern music
not a medival madrigal please

MrsWembley · 12/01/2010 15:30

Gawd, I go out for a couple of hours and miss all the chat about JR. Lots of opinions about him!! Not surprised he's quit. Ever since they made him record his show in advance he must have been itching to say how he really feels. I'd feel insulted, so god knows how he feels about it. All this apologising must be choking him. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? And whatever happened to the famous British sense of humour????

And never mind who's going to replace him - what's going to happen to Andy?

PuppyMonkey · 12/01/2010 15:32

Oh no, Lamar on a Sat am is a disaster. Totally not right. Danny Baker or someone, anyone but that smug twat. With or without Jo Brand.

MrsWembley · 12/01/2010 15:36

Used to love Lamar on Buzzcocks, but can't love him on the radio. What would he say when told he has to play 'modern music'?

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 12/01/2010 16:20

I love it when Steve Wright is on holiday too. His show is always better without him and his bloody gang.

I agree that Mark Radcliffe and Liza T are a brilliant combo and would love to hear them more, but wouldn't want Radcliffe and Marconi to be rendered asunder!

RolandButter · 12/01/2010 16:21

stev wrigth is a twat

all that "heres janey lee grace great show keep up the gd work

self imprtant twat

lottiejenkins · 12/01/2010 16:25

Im sad that the wonderfully fantastic Johnnie Walker wont be covering holidays on The Breakfast Show now!!

Surprise · 12/01/2010 16:40

I was delighted when I heard Wogan was going - all that smooth-talking and yee-haw music and thought of the day or whatever it is.

But Chris Evans' music has been equally awful and all the boring bits are still there. Radio 2 need to find out who they're aiming their programmes at. I love CE, but probably won't listen because of the old-fashioned music and pandering to the whims of the oldies. I remember when they had a clear out of all the oldies at Radio 1 (DLT etc). I didn't like it, so listened to something else instead. It's time for Radio 2 to move on, to appeal to those in their 30s/40s/50s. So carry on with CE, but make it less dated. Also, get rid of all that crap that's on at the weekends - songs from the shows or whatever. Couldn't all of that move to Radio 3? Who listens to Radio 3 anyway?

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 17:08

Why don't those people move to radio 1 then? I am early 30's and like the music! It is the radio1 ness I can't stand from CE now. I liked him at drive time.

madwomanintheattic · 12/01/2010 17:08

i loved sk for the first bit of the drive to work (although the blardy cat thing drove me to distraction), loved the two old gits (bye tel - sorry you couldn't stay longer), and couldn't deal with anyone else for the drivetime saga on the way home except ce... 3 hours in the car a day turned me into a right cranky old bat if anyone dared to go on holiday.

so, has ce shipped the whole crew to the am slot as well then? not sure i could deal at that time in the morning...

if it helps, ce is an acquired taste, like steve wright used to be with his blardy annoying 'mr angry' rubbish. i loathed sw at the time, and truly truly loathed ce on the tgi friday farce, but these days (old emoticon) i find them both fine and dandy...

chris moyles, however

oh, i also loathed jonathan ross until i got old. these days i quite like him too. i suspect i may be a typical example. of what i dare not think.

mumotrumpet · 12/01/2010 17:08

yeah to mr ginge! wish he was on both shows too though..

RolandButter · 12/01/2010 17:09

the music has GOT TO CHANGE on CE

MrsWembley · 12/01/2010 17:42

Do you know, I haven't noticed the music in amongst all the self-important nonsense he spills out. It wasn't so bad at drivetime, but it's toooo much in the morning. And yes, I agree, it is basically his old show, just moved time slots.

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 18:01

Yes mrs wembley here here!

kittywise · 12/01/2010 18:06

CE is waay too much. He was in the afternoon and in the morining it's now unbearable. It's like listening to a child on blue smarties.
I don't want to listen to his shouting and even more i don't want to hear another person phone in and say "how are you chris" it really f*cks me off. Now I shall have to find another radio station. I want a dj for adults not kids.

kittywise · 12/01/2010 18:41

Actually I don't know what to do now.

What other national radio stations do a good breakfast show? There is no way I can stand any more of his phone ins ( why the phone- ins why?????) and inane banter. I am lost without TW!

MrsWembley · 12/01/2010 19:12

Yes, part of the problem is the phone-ins. I'm as liberal as the next person and not an intellectual snob at all, but dear god, how stupid are some of these people. The inane chat is not what I tune in for (another reason I stopped listening to Jezza). I want intelligent humour with a touch of self-mocking, knowing banter.

I miss Janet and John. Heard an email from one of the Toggs read out this morning and I felt ever so homesick.

Cyb · 12/01/2010 19:16

I miss Janet and John too and for all Terry's "Please make Chris feel welcome" I won't listen again.

Its radio for the lowest common denominator.

FWIW I think Danny Baker should tak eover Radio 2 sat morning, he is hilarious AND intelligent (I know he's CE's best mate but hey ho)

maxybrown · 12/01/2010 19:28

Yes, he certainly hasn't gone in gently......or if he has, that is even more worrying. It is all so wrong
