for a fortnight at Christmas and for them to have come back having gained a huge new Abercrombie & Fitch wardrobe and 4kgs apiece?

There is a certain pack mentality on MN that's for sure but I'm not sure why one would try to deliberately test it out?

Bonsoir · 07/01/2010 14:55

So a self-aware but truthful poster is a troll? Only those who post innocently/unconsciously are genuine?

OP posts:
TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 14:55

Because you should get the informed consent of any participants in any research programme. To not do so is rude at the very least.

What exactly are you researching???? By that I mean what's the hypothesis? What's the objective? And what research methods are you using? Or when you say research are you just describing digging around an interest a bit?

Not being difficult, genuinely interested!

violethill · 07/01/2010 14:56

However, I fear the quality of the research will mean that the book is more 'burger' rather than 'fillet steak' (to use an appropriate analogy!)

Bonsoir · 07/01/2010 14:57

Self-control. Can't say more than that!

violethill · 07/01/2010 14:57

X posts there TheBoss!

Portofino · 07/01/2010 14:57

Trolling is when you post something provocative and sit back to "study" peoples reactions.

I often thought you must be robotic, or have some kind of personality disorder, as you try to inflame people, but NEVER get emotionally involved. But it turns out that you see MNetters as some kind of experiment! That is the single most patronising thing I have EVER come across on here!

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 14:59

Actually, it is really patronising....

Hmmmmm.

Perhaps I should not see Anna as quite so humorous after all.

Still feeling sick after the croissants though - might need to wash them down with some chocolate....

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 15:00

violethill - perhaps even more meat pie....

violethill · 07/01/2010 15:02

From Lidl

Portofino · 07/01/2010 15:02

Do you sit there in the 16e arondissement (or whatever) feeling all smug with your ONE croissant, posting little snippets to see how us lesser mortals respond?

People get UPSET about some of these subjects. They are personally affected by them. To use their feelings and experiences to make yourself feel all superior - studying people like ants - is SICK! True trolling and worthy of reporting in my opinion.

I personally won't give you any more of my time and attention.

Bonsoir · 07/01/2010 15:03

But Portofino, surely you don't take everyone at face value in real life? You look at their reactions and you guage their behaviour and learn to negotiate with them. Studying people whether individually or collectively is a fascinating and worthwhile pasttime.

So in other words you see mners as little lab rats to test out your theories on. God you are so damn full of your own self worth aren't you!!!!

violethill · 07/01/2010 15:05

I think you need a career Bonsoir. Maybe a senior position! You're bored and in denial about it!

cyteen · 07/01/2010 15:05

Yes, this is the Fray Bentos of research projects really.

slim22 · 07/01/2010 15:05

Ok Anna ( for the sake of research of course ) please be informed that your little attention seeking exercise today is potentially developing into another AIBU thread.
Maybe you'd like to expand the scope of your dissertation and come entertain us there when you reach 1000 posts?

sorry couldn't resist

thedollyridesout · 07/01/2010 15:05

So exactly what interesting facts have emerged from this thread? I can honestly say that I have learned nothing (with the possible exception of the 2 croissant thing but I will have to try it out myself just to be completely certain).

Hullygully · 07/01/2010 15:07

I like to put them on pins and get right up close.

BigusBumus · 07/01/2010 15:08

Bonsoir, you have spent now 2 days sat at your PC doing this thread. How about getting off it now and actually doing some parenting yourself?

Portofino · 07/01/2010 15:08

I am a trained negotiator, Bonsoir, but I don't believe that I am better than everyone else. I'm glad you have the time! Bye.

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 15:09

thedolly - I suspect it only works with two French sized croissants, not with the small ones you get in multipacks IFKWIM. I feel a whole new research project coming on about how the theory holds up with different spreads. Is Nutella more filling than jam, for example, or would lemon curd swing it the other way?

Bonsoir · 07/01/2010 15:09

Don't go all Xenia violethill - you know, full-time high-responsibility career the answer to all women's issues. I'm not at all bored (though DD's cold and the snow is not helping today) and tend to be rather too busy for my liking...

OP posts:
cyteen · 07/01/2010 15:10

Anyway, this thread is clearly just an attempt to get into this week's Round-Up. Good effort Bonsoir but next time try and work some about bumsex into the OP.

TheBossofMe · 07/01/2010 15:11

Am totally totally rolling on the floor now at Bonsoir saying she's too busy...she's always on MN! Unless she thinks you can parent from a PC!

Bonsoir · 07/01/2010 15:11

Bumsex is right down there with Chicken Keeping and Embroidery as a topic of MN interest for me...
