I just can't stay away from AIBU....it's a more compulsive and shameful addiction than reading the Daily Mail online; same sense of barely-suppressed hatred and scorn, same vicious female bitchiness and judgemental outrage.

Happy New Year all of you...

I am relatively new to MNet. What exactly IS a troll?

Good Point Le Queen.

And anyway, if folks dont like what they read here then no one is forcing them to go on it.

Openbook · 03/01/2010 13:28

You should try Personal on TES site. I think you lot are lovely in comparison.

CybilsDrivel · 03/01/2010 13:34

The threads on AIBU could be culled by 50% has most aren't even about Being Unreasonable, just wanting a bloody moan

'Am I being Unreasonable to want to park in front of my own house?'

Err. no

What the f* is a Troll??

Irishchic · 03/01/2010 13:38

Thanks le Queen, sorry just cross posted there!

BendyBob · 03/01/2010 13:41

AIBU is vile. It should be renamed to 'Come and give me a good kicking with your Manolo steel toecaps'.

Why do people set themselves up for it though?? Virtual masochism maybe.

Irishchic · 03/01/2010 13:42

But its a good point too though LeQ because it's a forum where we all get to air our views but it's not like we all really know each other, therefore people shouldnt get so worked up and take things to heart, which you obviously don't, and thats a good thing. You wouldnt want to be an over-sensitive soul on Mnet anyway or you'd be very upset at times by some of the bitchiness.

But there is a lot of nice stuff to on Mnet, and actually most of the people who post seem pretty decent to me...

YABU. There is a warning at the top for people to understand they're probably not going to be agreed with. If they don't want honesty or a softer response, they can post elsewhere.

AIBU is my favourite part of MN!

AnyFucker · 03/01/2010 14:16

LeQ, I totally think 'tis out of order to bump old threads to try and prove a point

not nice

have a nice lunch

and I don't want to be 'Kinard 'cos my name was never meant to infer I was "hard" or nasty

it's more like, you know, I could be Any Old Fucker, and so could you

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 03/01/2010 14:18

YABU
I think 'yarboo' and 'yanboo' to myself as well these days, it's terrible. I don't think it's bitchy, I have been told IABU ('eyeaboo') plenty of times, but...I was boo....

OrmIrian · 03/01/2010 14:22

Most people don't need to post in AIBU. Because they aren't. And I am 90% sure they know it. And inevitably some responses will be nasty for the sheer hell of it (and because sometimes overly needy people are annoying). But if you post something contentious you have to expect a row. I do fail to understand the level of seemingly incandescent rage that sometimes bubbles up from nowhere though.

I do not have MN bookmarked, only AIBU - t'was reading about AIBU in The Independent that first alerted me to MN's existence.

One person's bitchiness, though, is another's straight talking.

Maleeka · 03/01/2010 14:45

I love AIBU! Love all the bitchyness!

Altho tbh most of them might as well be in chat cos they are so stupid!

For ex, "aibu to make my newborn son sit rearfacing in his carseat on a 20 hour journey to the centre of the universe when he wont be able to see anything"!

But hey i come here for a giggle, not for serious conversation

SolidGoldBloodyJanuaryUrgh · 03/01/2010 14:46

Some people are just self-obsessed wusses, and giving them a virtual equivalent of a good kick up the twinkle now and again is a public service. It stops them writing why oh why me-me-me columns in the Guardian Family, with any luck.

AIBU threads are usually the most active...are people acting out their supressed rage on them so they can go away and make cupcakes in frilly dresses with their families afterwards?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 03/01/2010 15:08

I have only seen one of LeQueen's threads that's been bumped - the one about her dh losing important papers, passports and a car - I haven't read it through in detail, but I don't think it demonstrates bitchiness, or trolliness, so I'm not sure what it is meant to show. Perhaps it shows how AIBU and LeQueen have senses of humour.

MamaLazarou · 03/01/2010 15:22

I don't think it's that bitchy here at all. It makes me laugh. Maybe that makes me an uber-bitch

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/01/2010 15:33

LeQueen, the thing is you do give good thread .

CMOTdibbler · 03/01/2010 15:37

Good point SGB . Where do they find the navel gazers who get published in there.

AIBU makes me laugh too - I love the ones where the OP will not be persuaded, under any circumstances that they might have been U
