We always put ours up quite early (6th this year), but I hate having it up too long after xmas. Certainly down for the NY, usually keep it up until 29th, as its my birthday, and will be too busy being pampered to take it down before then

infin · 25/12/2009 21:57

Depends when you put it up really....as ours only went up on 23rd it will stand in increasingly tattered glory until Twelfth Night.

mistletoemulledwinemoodlum · 25/12/2009 21:58

If I had my way it would be down tonight after dcs in bed. And all those festive arsing farking pine needles hoovered up.

Its all over people take em down

mistletoemulledwinemoodlum · 25/12/2009 22:00

Its all i can do not to. Only pleading eyes from dc create a stay of execution for the dwindling thing.

god i hate all the clutter

but I am mean and take down birthday cards at the end of the day too, my friend keeps them up for a week

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:13

Ours is artificial. We leave it up till Twelfth Night for luck (not that it's done much good).

oh no mine has to stay up till after new year....id feel a right scrooge taking it down before seeing the new year in.

after that its fair game!

Mooncupflowethover · 25/12/2009 22:29

I'm taking mine down in stages as not to upset DS1 (he's 2.8), he's still floating on an Xmas cloud.

I just want them down now, after Xmas day it's all an anti-climax and I want to get back to normality! Took a few down this evening (humbug), will do a few more tomorrow etc..they'll all be gone in a few days.

Maleeka · 25/12/2009 22:31

Really want shot of ours too. It looks like total crap at the moment and a slight breeze sends the bloody needles showering down!

I got quite scared the other night thinking there was a mouse in the corner, till i realised that the rustling sound was the bloody needles giving up the ghost and periodically falling on our wooden floor!

At least it wont be so bad to hover it tho but i'm having to resist the urge to take off the attachment and just put the hose along every branch and cut out the middle man!!

merrycompo · 25/12/2009 22:32

I want to take it down too and it only went upnyesterday, lol

mistletoemulledwinemoodlum · 25/12/2009 22:42

But today (or yesterday if you are like me) is just the start of Christmas before that was preps and now it is celebrating.

Ours will come downb on the 3rd to prepare dd for going back to school.

expatinscotland · 25/12/2009 22:53

I always feel slightly sad taking it down, putting away the ornaments.

I always do it when the kids are in bed because sometimes, I cry.

aarghhelp · 25/12/2009 22:58

Ours went up last night. It is staying till the 6th Jan (twelfth night).

CardyMow · 26/12/2009 00:11

NOPE, mine stays up till twelfth night too. Even though the DC's are back to school before that, which is JUST PLAINLY WRONG!!.

TigerDrivesAgain · 26/12/2009 00:14

YABtotallyU

Xmas trees are so lovely, if you don't like them dont have one in the first place, why bother putting them up. We've got two this year, the house will look empty without them, and they're not coming down until 12th night.

rowingboat · 26/12/2009 01:01

We took so long to get around to putting the tree up, it isn't coming down for a while, no particular date in mind, just when I feel like it/get fed-up with it.
I still think it looks nice and sparkly at the moment. Pretty!
It's an artificial tree, so no hurry to clear up needles or increase in tattyness over time.
I do loathe needles and stuff like that, we do have mice this time of year and I'm sure they would love the needles.

nooka · 26/12/2009 07:18

My family traditionally does Christmas Eve to Epiphany (the twelve days of Christmas). We put ours up earlier, so I expect we'll take it down some time after New Year. Taking it down on Boxing Day seems a bit sad really.

ceres · 26/12/2009 07:20

ours stays up until the 6th jan, or more usually the day after. i'm irish and in ireland the 6th is more celebrated - it's little christmas/women's christmas - and most people wouldn't dream of taking tree down until after this.

tbh i don't really understand people taking the tree down so early. just seems a bit strange having one at all if you don't like it.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/12/2009 07:29

I want to take mine down soon as I paid £33 for a pot grown one and I want it outside before I kill it and to give it a good chance of survival. I will wait until New Year though.

eandh · 26/12/2009 07:35

Nope mine will be coming down by Monday as its dd2 birthday week after and I like the house free of decorations for a week plus it went ups o early this year I am fed up of it (dd1 already asking when she can have the christmas cards as she wants to cut them up to make a picture!)
