I use dts birthday as an excuse to bring it down on the 27th. That way it clears up the space for all the birthday balloons

JustKeepSparkling · 29/12/2009 13:09

Tree is down, all decorations & clutter (apart from outside lights as it's chucking it down) boxed up, living room hoovered.
Just need to put boxes in loft later.

lanismum · 29/12/2009 13:11

Took ours down yesterday, it looked so bare without all the presents around it, and I needed the space!

BAUBLEnod · 29/12/2009 13:17

Ours is coming down on New Year's Day... looking forward to snuggling up with DH by the light of the Christmas tree, glass of champagne in hand, on New Year's Eve

It cost us an arm and a leg so I'm getting my money's worth [tightwad emoticon]

At one time of my life our drawing room was upstairs and we had to get the tree down the stairs to the hall. There were always a few pine needles that escaped the vacuum cleaner. It was a bit tricky as there was a bend on the stairs. I seem to remember once trying to push it through the sash window but gave up the idea incase it fell into the area down below.

JaneiteQuiteRight · 29/12/2009 16:38

Dp has just taken ours down.

hormonalmum · 29/12/2009 16:40

I was going to say ours is coming down on Thursday but maybe Baublenod has a point. It might last til Friday after all!

franatash · 29/12/2009 16:40

I forgot to add that the tree was always taken down on New Year's Day.

girlsyearapart · 29/12/2009 16:42

what date are they meant to come down??

I know it's the 12th night but when do you count from? Fed up with ours but dh won;t take it down until the 'proper' day..

TheMollyRogerAndTheIvy · 29/12/2009 16:47

Mine is staying up until May. Even if it is a wizened brown stick. I cannot BARE january, when all the fairy lights come down, life just seems so bleak and horrible and ugly and dark. And horrible. And dark. And black. Black Johgnny, Black....

mistletoekisses · 29/12/2009 17:49

Ours is down. Think this year was an exception as currently just over 37 weeks pregnant. Didnt want to risk going into labour with all the decorations still up.

Mind you, I still think I would take the tree down on New Years Day at the latest. Helps me come back to reality so to speak.

onadietcokebreak · 29/12/2009 17:54

I was hoping to last til new years day but its looking untidy!!!!

As soon as my boyfriend comes over in the week he will be straight up into my loft to get the boxes down....I hate heights!

This year I have actually had a good christmas but as I am on a ongoing declutter mission I cant wait for it to come down. Last few years have been awful cos of ex-P so couldnt wait for decorations and tree to be down....

Jambuttie · 29/12/2009 18:02

Mines is down!!!!!!

mummydoc · 29/12/2009 18:18

mine down tonight , dd1 has her birthday on new years day so all decos and card down for 2 days before birthday cards and balloons etc go up. only fair for her realy

purpleduckUnderTheMistletoe · 29/12/2009 18:46

"but I am mean and take down birthday cards at the end of the day too, my friend keeps them up for a week "

No need for the !!!! I keep mine up for week.

I LOVE LOVE the Christmas decs.....until just after Christmas when they really start to bug me...the tree with the tinsel that is now crooked...the cards that the dogs keep knocking over... I just start to get all twitchy.

Ours is coming down tomorrow me thinks

fifitot · 29/12/2009 18:51

You're all mad! Traditionally they go up Xmas Eve and stay up until 12th night which is only 13 days. If you wait until the last minute to put it up you won't be fed up of it. If you put it up at the start of December then I accept you might be sick of it so the answer is wait until later!

Mine went up about the 20th and will come down around 12th night.

It's still Xmas you know! The 'Festive Season' ends with the New Year.

tullytwo · 29/12/2009 18:56

Mine came down today-love getting it all back in order! Ours is up for just over a week-plenty of time

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 29/12/2009 19:02

Will take ours down this weekend , like to have it up for New Year and expecting hangover New Years Day so prob Sat or Sun ready for school!

TheFallenMadonna · 29/12/2009 19:04

I've always liked having the Christmas decorations up for my birthday.

Pikelit · 29/12/2009 20:03

Someone (fill in name of tradesman!) appears to have disappeared off with our fibre optic tree. A fact I discovered after the shops had shut on Christmas Eve, that being when the decorations go up. But all other sparkly lighty-up things will remain on show until 12th Night. If you don't put the stuff up on Bonfire Night you aren't sick of it on Christmas Night!

Jopeg · 29/12/2009 22:56

Late up, late down seems to be the rule of the day. I always mean to get mine up a bit earlier and down a bit earlier and always fail, but taking them down before New Year seems wrong!

I must say I am too busy on Christmas Eve for tree decorating though!

mummybear68 · 29/12/2009 23:20

Mine will come down this weekend before the kids go back to school and I go back to work on Monday. The earliest I have ever taken it down is New Year's Day.

moodlum · 29/12/2009 23:33

ours has only been up since the 12th December, so I'm obviously of the up quite late down very early school of decoration/indoor tree management

brimfull · 29/12/2009 23:34

ours will come down tomorrow

dd's b'day on thursday so decorating for that now

Mummygoesohh · 30/12/2009 00:52

Mine comes down after New Years Day. I put it up early and love all the sparkly lights.
DS loves it- he was three on the 19th and stands saying "I can look but i mustn't touch"... then every so often temptation gets too much for him and he touches it and runs off!
