You must have very limited wardrobes

Not cleaning your house is discusting

I don't iron on the whole. If we're off somewhere really smart, I make sure we're ironed if needed, but I find washing, shake out and hanging works for work clothes and wash, shake, tumble, shake works for everything else.

I don't clean very much either, but my cleaner does so is that ok?

I like reading, surfing the net and getting out and about with the kids. Oh and I work full time near as dammit. Ironing doesn't even feature on my list of priorities and if someone plans to judge me because I'm vaguely rumpled, they can get on and do it.I'm big enough and daft enough to handle it...

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 11:17

So's your speeling :-p

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 11:17

no because the 2 smaller loads will dry quicker than a full load.

because there is more space in the dryer.

the full load would take longer because the clothes are all squashed together, the air cant get through so it takes a lot longer to get the clothes dry.

you know it makes sense.

Bonsoir · 13/11/2009 11:18

It's 3 x 10 minutes (even 5 minutes) and then hung versus the whole load for an hour getting crumpled.

Morloth · 13/11/2009 11:18

Only thing here is DH's workshirts and very occasionally a linen summer dress. When I work I get my suits drycleaned and wear a t-shirt underneath.

All outdoor casual clothes are jeans and t-shirts which get run through the dryer.

But yes we are quite scruffy, we just don't care.

brightongirldownunder · 13/11/2009 11:20

I got the iron out of the cupboard again today. It stared at me, longingly....desperate to flatten the pile of freshly crumpled laundry infront of it . But it wasn't long before I got distracted and kicked it under the bed.
I think creased clothes add character [lazy slob emoticon}

FourArms · 13/11/2009 11:20

I try to iron DS1's school uniform. I don't always manage it! If I'm ironing school uniform, then I might also do a few of my bits. That's it. I'm very lazy.

gagamama · 13/11/2009 11:22

If you hang things out to dry properly (and I am anal about this, I will admit) so that everything is flat and taut and even, it does not need ironing at all. Just hang things up and fold them well. I will admit to ironing tea towels, of all things, because it sterilises them and they hang nicer. And sometimes shirts, but not always.

I also hate the way things smell after being ironed, plus once you've sat down for 10 minutes or walked outside to get to the place you want to look 'smart' at, it will have creased anyway.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 11:25

ironing is not hard or time consuming, do it while your watching Corrie

Hoovering is harder

You must live in a huge house, i dont have room to have washing hanging/lying around drying

No, I live in an apartment so I don't have masses of extra space.

However, the DSSs are only here half the time, so I use their (very spacious) bedroom as a drying room when they aren't around!

mamadiva · 13/11/2009 11:38

I only learned to iron about 2 weeks ago because DS had his first 'school' (nursery) photo's and when I took his shirt out of the wardrobe i was all creased... I had to phone DP at work and ask him how to turn it on

Turned out what I thought was the on button was the spray bit LMFAO.

I don't use tumble direr either I just hang stuff up and leave iot to dry then fold and put away. My aunt has one fo those press things that look like an ironing board but is like a huge iron type thing and I want one of them!

emsyj · 13/11/2009 11:38

Quote: "Laughing at ironing tea towels That women has far too much time on her hands"

I WANT to iron my tea towels. They stack in the cupboard (don't have a drawer stack as we whipped it out to make room for, errrr... the tumble drier) and I prefer them ironed and stacked. Happy for you to laugh, but you probably do things that I would consider an utter waste of time also.

brightongirldownunder · 13/11/2009 11:39

Does anyone on here actually iron their pants?
Go on, admit it - some of you do...

MavisEnderby · 13/11/2009 11:40

Oh dear.Seem to be only anally retentive compulsive ironer on mn.LOL

MavisEnderby · 13/11/2009 11:42

No to pants, socks teatowels and towels!

lisianthus · 13/11/2009 11:43

I don't iron. I'd prefer that people's eyes are drawn to the crumpled bits of my top rather than to the patch of baby sick that is probably on my shoulder.

Wouldn't using a tumble dryer for 20 minutes use less electricity than ironing for twice that time? I am assuming here that people aren't using old-fashioned irons with hot coals in them but electric ones.

brightongirldownunder · 13/11/2009 11:44

My Mum ironed my Dad's pants for years - even giving his boxers a little crease at the front, like a pair of chinos.
Obviously I had to put her straight...life is too short.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 11:45

I have a friend who had to iron her pants when she was living in Africa - some weirdy fly lays eggs in the seams when they hang on the line so you have to iron them to kill them. So very glad to be in England sometimes.

emsyj · 13/11/2009 11:46

Yes, I iron my knickers. I like them flat. Our chest of drawers is quite small and they fit in better if ironed, plus I like them ironed. No doubt this means that I am an imbecile of the highest order who cannot even think of anything better to do... Heaven forbid that I should spend my OWN time in my OWN house doing something that I actually don't really mind doing (certainly beats mopping and hoovering and cleaning the toilet) that benefits me by making me slightly happier. What a wierdo I am!

brightongirldownunder · 13/11/2009 11:49

You're not an imbecile emsyj - I'm almost envious of the thought of crisp ironed pants in my chest of drawers.

stepaway · 13/11/2009 11:51

I don't own a tumble dryer.

I do own an iron (for appearance's sake!) but haven't used it in years. at least 5 years.

I do not wear fleeces.

My children go to state schools and therefore wear uniforms (trousers/sweatshirts) made of man-made materials that look a bit cheap but don't need ironing.

DH wears non-iron shirts to work.

So, to the OP, nope I don't iron anything. I'm willing to accept that you might think we look "crumpled and... bit scruffy", though!

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 11:52

I iron my ds2 boxer shorts
