You must iron some things, like shirts and uniforms?

go on admit it

Why would I want to stand out from these supposedly scruffy people? Do I get extra biscuits or child benefit from looking less scruffy?

I have one pair of jeans and a few pair of linen trousers that I have to iron, everything else is tumble dried. I don't look crumpled nor do I wear fleece!

DH's uniform needs ironing, he does that.

I'll iron the DC's uniform when they go to school though.

No one in their right mind irons duvets and sheets do they?!

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:25

'As being a bit smoother. Which is better because...?'

It makes you look smart, as opposed to scruffy and a bit un-cared for

I like my dc to look smart, i iron uniforms

Ah it's a judgey thread! Yes I am lazy, if that's all you wanted to know you could have just asked....

midnightexpress · 13/11/2009 10:25

'You dont iron because you must be lazy'

Yep. Or because I have 6001 more important things to do than stand with a fecking iron.

Yes, our clothes sometimes look a bit rumpled.

But you know what ....? IT DOESN'T MATTER..

I am not defined by the fact that my/my familiy's clothes are all pressed and smooth.
I am a bright, kind mother/wife, who is mainly concerned to ensure that we have a roof over our heads, food on the table, and in our home and life we feel happy, secure, loved and fulfilled.

So whether our clothes are ironed or not comes a LOOOOOONG way down in my list of priorities.

dollyparting · 13/11/2009 10:28

I'm with Libra - if dh likes the feel of 100% cotton next to his skin, then he can enjoy the feel of 100% cotton under his hands as he irons it.

dcs learned to iron by the time they went to secondary school.

I iron about 3 times a year.

PS I work in a smart business environment, so not desperately scruffy

Blackduck · 13/11/2009 10:29

I don'tiron bed linen either... life is TOO short.....(unlike my mother who irons EVERYTHING!). The only things that get ironed in this house are dp's shirts, the occasional top of ds's and some linen trousers/shirts of mine. I'd say I iron once a month if that, and only because dp runs out of shirts...

emsyj · 13/11/2009 10:29

I am exceptionally lazy around the house and could do with a visit from Kim & Aggie, but when it comes to ironing I quite like it, so everything gets ironed - down to knickers and tea towels.

And yes, sheets & duvet covers DO go in the tumble drier, how small would a drier have to be to not fit sheets ffs? Do not see the point of a drier that doesn't fit sheets really. Surely the drier's main purpose is to dry stuff that's too big/awkward to dry indoors in the winter (summer it's on the washing line obviously). The idea of drying sheets by draping them around the house makes me feel a little bit sick tbh. They would smell of dinner. And make the house all damp. Yuk.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:29

Your all killing the ozone with your tumble driers

Before children, I dry-clearned

Now, I try to avoid clothes that need ironing (wrap dresses for work, jeans for home); I shake out and hang everything up carefully; I don't have a dh and if I did he would be responsible for his own ruddy shirts; I sleep in a crumpled bed.

Works for me!

TrillianAstra · 13/11/2009 10:30

'Your all'

How about we do a swap - you do my ironing and I'll do your apostrophes?

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:33

OP posts:
ilovesprouts · 13/11/2009 10:34

ironing whats that

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:35

I live in a fashion capital, i have to look smart, i only iron my shell suit on low

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 13/11/2009 10:35

My Mum ironed loads. She ironed t-shirts that my Dad was going to be wearing for work under overalls.

Actually that is a lie. I ironed loads, once I was old enough to reach. School shirts I understand, but t-shirts for doing a manual job whenyou will have overalls on top? Madness!

hoppybird · 13/11/2009 10:35

I don't iron anything: dh's workplace is casual (works in IT), has non-iron shirts if meeting clients (suit is sorted out by dry-cleaning). I don't buy anything which would need ironing, ds's uniform is polo shirt and sweatshirt, and dear old M&S kindly make teflon-coated non-iron trousers. Sorted.

I am probably not as well turned out as some, but I don't think I'm scruffy. Do people make judgements on you depending on how flat your clothes are?
