You must iron some things, like shirts and uniforms?

go on admit it

lucy,my dd has sn and generally poos daily on her sheets (sorry tmi) prob why I seem to spend a large % of my life doing the dreaded ironing.Looking at it I am probably making myself tons of work, but we have carers/SS people coming in to help with the care of dp/dd and I want to look like I am coping with it all by being organised with such stuff. That sounds a bit mad doesn't it?I work nights and carers etc cover 2 hrs mornings to help dp and dd and I feel like I need to be seen to be coping and keeping stuff neat and tidy.Reading that back I sound a little insane and paranoid tbh.

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:51

nobody is ever, ever in my bedroom so its not even a houseproud thing that i iron my sheets. its just for me. OH would give a damn if the bed was made of straw.

very interested in this conversation ! For all of you who are tumble drying, can I have your tips. My stuff comes out so creased from the tumble drier. Is it because I dry the life out of them? How do you guys do it.

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:51

wouldnt

StretchOnaRocket · 13/11/2009 10:52

I love the word iron! Say it over and over again!!! Esp in the manner of Edna Turnblad off of Hairspray!!

I rarely iron. What's so great about flat clothes???

I'm with Libra - if dh likes the feel of 100% cotton next to his skin, then he can enjoy the feel of 100% cotton under his hands as he irons it.

I don't iron. Sometimes things get tumble dried, sometimes on the line. DH wears polo type uniform for work.

The last time I ironed was a cotton dress that had been scrumpled into the laundry bag instead of folded from the airer/drier/line.

DD's school stuff is non-iron, and she's 3. Anything I iron gets rolled around on anyway.

MIL irons teatowels! Fucking teatowels! i use them to wipe stuff, they don't perform better for being ironed FFS.

clumsymum · 13/11/2009 10:53

"clumsymummy - you know it's perfectly possible to be a kind, loving Mum who keeps a roof over her children's heads, and everyone under that roof be happy and secure and loved and fulfilled and for them to wear crisply ironed clothes (gasp, shock, horror)"

Wrong.. because if either DH or I spent hours a week ironing, we would not feel happy nor fulfilled.

Life's too bloody short.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:55

'whats so great about flat clothes?' well at least i dont look like ive slpet in them

OP posts:
Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:55

lifeistooshort, take them out straight away, shake them again and fold them.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:56

Why would the ironing take hours? do you wear 3 differnt outfits a day?

I iron daily, takes 5 mins

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 13/11/2009 10:56

If you want to make the most of your tumble drier to reduce ironing, only part-fill your drier and tumble only until the creases are out (10 minutes), and then hang shirts, t-shirts etc on hangers to dry and dry sheets and pillow cases flat.

I have a clothes airer from John Lewis that has a "flat" position.

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:56

weird for doing something that pleases me?

VT you are weird.

All this, half filling the washing machine and tumble drier seems like more effort to me, and even worse for the ozone

Why not do a full load then just iron the bits that you need

Yes i am weird, so

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 13/11/2009 11:02

It's actually quicker (and therefore more economical) to part-dry small loads in your tumble drier than to fill it and leave it on for longer.

MavisEnderby · 13/11/2009 11:04

I want a tumble drier! (Wails)

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 11:05

I quite like ironing - I save up laundry till I've got 3 or 4 of those folding crates, and then have an excuse for watching a couple of trashy movies back to back. And if I send a couple of reproachful looks at DH, he does the sock-pairing. Now that's a chore I loathe.

OrmIrian · 13/11/2009 11:06

I don't iron much but yes, there are some things that have to be ironed.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 11:06

I dont see how its quicker to dry part loads

So you half fill, dry for 30 mins then half fill again dry for 30 mins

Or you do a full load for 60 mins

How is it quicker ?

OP posts:
Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 11:11

with half a load there is more space for the air to circulate through the clothes hence reducing drying time.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 13/11/2009 11:12

I freely admit to being a slattern - I ask visitors to keep their shoes on so I don't have to look at their socks getting filthy. But I do keep the bathroom basin shiny, and the cooking bits of the kitchen, and I'll usually give the loo a quick once-over if people are coming. Apart from when there's one girl visiting - she's a very tall 4 so doesn't use the step but has issues with her dismount - in which case I warn the adults and let them know where the wipes are. I do enjoy the look of polite horror on their faces

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 11:13

Yes but you still have to dry the other half of the load, so in the end it takes as long to dry half loads as it would to dry one full load

I work in IT, we are required to wear smart dress, not all IT people are scruff bags

OP posts:
LaurieScaryCake · 13/11/2009 11:14

I don't iron or wear fleece.

If you hang stuff up it doesn't get that creased - most of the things i wear are made from 'jersey'.

I do clean my loo, I don't want splashback covered in shit.
