go on admit it

PerArduaAdNauseum, those are the putzi flies!! When we lived in Africa every last thing we owned was ironed. by the maid, though, not by us. was the first time i'd had ironed pants and jeans!

JodieO · 13/11/2009 11:55

I don't iron and I freely admit to being a lazy so and so

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 11:57

chill out emsy, i ron too remember, you not the only weirdo

OP posts:
VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 12:01

I like drape. Crumpled doesn't drape.

Sidge · 13/11/2009 12:08

I iron. Well I iron if DH is away, otherwise he does it.

I iron everything except pants, socks and fitted sheets, and of course things like fleece, school sweatshirts and gym gear.

Maybe it's my military background (or my OCD )but I can't imagine wearing clothes, or putting the children in clothes that haven't been ironed. It would be like not brushing my teeth - sort of unfinished.

I iron in front of the telly and catch up on all the stuff I've Sky Plussed!

roulade · 13/11/2009 12:12

I don't spin my clothes on more than 800 as anything higher causes lots of creases. Also regarding cost of Tumble Drying i read recently that if you have an energy rated C maching ( which i do ) and you do approx 4 loads a week then it costs you about £50 per year, now that's a bloody bargain in my book!
Also i live in a flat with no garden or radiators and refuse to have more than one clothes horse as i can't abide mess

JodieO · 13/11/2009 12:14

I don't look crumpled though, suppose I just buy clothes that don't need ironing. Dc's have school clothes that are non iron too so it's a win win situation I have far too many other things to procrastinate about doing before worrying about ironing

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 12:14

Not ironing crumpled clothes would be like not brushing my hair

LOL I used to have a friend who said she ironed nothing at all.I was always amazed because her DCs uniforms always looked really good.We were talking about it one day when a little voice piped up 'that's because Daddy irons them after you'vr gone to work mummy !'

Vinegar tits why is ironing any better for the environment than tumbling ?

PixiNanny · 13/11/2009 12:20

I don't iron a thing, doesn't make much difference to me whether it's ironed or not! Though I don't have any crumple-prone items to wear...

Fibilou · 13/11/2009 12:21

I iron everything. And I mean everything. It doesn't take too long as our washing is line-dried adn the creases drop out while drying.

I can't bear the look of unironed clothes and as I am always smartly dressed to wear unironed clothes would kind of ruin the effect. I can't understand people putting hours into their hair and makeup then putting on unironed clothes.

But then I wouldn't go out in a pair of unpolished shoes either. It would appear from other peoples' footwear that I am in a minority..

nymphadora · 13/11/2009 12:24

DH only wears shirts a few times a year. He irons those. I have the occaisional top or the kids dresses for parties but apart from that we dont have things which need ironing

Rhubarb · 13/11/2009 12:26

After every school holiday I iron my children's uniforms once. That is about as much ironing as I'm prepared to do.

I visit my sister and people like her who just have baskets piled up in their kitchens/living rooms and this is perfectly clean washing that is waiting to be ironed.

My washing is, when weather permits, hung outside so most creases are blown out.

I think that when something is ironed, any crease that emerges through it being worn is more obvious. Whereas if it isn't ironed, ok it doesn't look really crisp and straight but it looks much better at the end of the day, much more natural.

No-one has ever said that I look crumply and I do like to look smartish most of the time. My dh is very good at telling it to me straight and if I looked a little rumpled he'd let me know.

I actually think that those who iron are just making work for themselves.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 12:32

I'm in the minority with you Fibilou, can't stand unpolished shoes either

I iron, i blow dry the creases out of my hair, i polish my shoes, it doesnt take a lot of effort and i look neat

you iron bedding???

I do look scruffy at times, but am happier scruffy than wasting my life ironing.

I iron uniforms, and for weddings/funerals.

mollyroger · 13/11/2009 12:42

I hope your judgeypants are all nicely ironed.... !

Kaloki · 13/11/2009 12:42

I don't iron, and wouldn't consider myself a scruff in any way, not a fleece in sight

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 12:47

I dont iron my pants

BigMomma3 · 13/11/2009 12:47

Sorry I absolutely hate ironing but I take a warped pleasure in the DSs having knife edge creases down the front of their trousers and do tend to judge those who don't as such I iron everything except undies, socks and towels. As the DCs need a clean uniform everyday (dirty buggers) that creates a lot of ironing but I could'nt send them out not looking smooth!

I like the beds to look nice when they are made and can't stand to see them all crumpled so I do the bedding as well. It's only a once a week job so not too bad and since getting one of those steam generator irons it's quite pleasurable .

Well you are judging the people that iron for being anal, OCD freaks that have nothing to do with their time, so I can judge you for being a slob who probably looks like their clothes have been picked up off the floor where they were thrown.
Works both ways

And yes, they are nicely ironed thankyou, I have no desire to look like a slob.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 13/11/2009 12:50

Apparently we own an iron, but I've never seen it. We certainly don't have an ironing board.

In the last 2 years I've needed one thing ironing (shirt for DS for a wedding) and my mum did that

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 13/11/2009 12:51

...and no, i am not a scruff.

BigMomma3 · 13/11/2009 12:51

I'm another clean shoes freak as well. Some of the kids shoes I see up the school are shocking [judge, judge]!

mollyroger · 13/11/2009 12:53

''Well you are judging the people that iron for being anal, OCD freaks that have nothing to do with their time''

er, tell me where I said that?
Ever?

I'm talking about both sides here, trying to use a little humour?
