You must iron some things, like shirts and uniforms?

go on admit it

Would far rather kill the ozone with my tumble drier than have sheets that smell funny and bannisters draped with wet washing...

Sheets must be ironed in our house - I just like them ironed. But then our sheets are all 100% cotton, so they still need a fair amount of ironing even straight out of the tumble drier. Polycotton ((shudder)) comes out reasonably crease-free.

ZacharyQuack · 13/11/2009 10:36

I never iron.

I am both lazy and scruffy. Judge your little ironed cotton socks off.

Remotew · 13/11/2009 10:36

Oh I remember I have an Iron somewhere gathering dust which hasn't seen the light of day for years. .

Looks down, no my clothes are nice and smooth.

lucykate · 13/11/2009 10:36

dh's shirts get ironed, but very little else does. i line dry (don't own a tumble drier), if it gets a good shake, then straight away either folded or hung on a hanger, most things don't need ironing. we don't look scruffy either, honest!, in fact i've had comments on how smart the dc's always look.

mollyroger · 13/11/2009 10:37

I do not iron. I have a million clothes none of which need ironing.

I don't iron school shirts - I buy non iron ones./ Jeanes are dried flat - hate ironed jeans with a nerdy crease.

I will admit to ironing linen but that is only around 3 garments which I don;'t wear for 9 months of year (cold!)

Hey, I hang sheets on the line then fold them. no crumples.

MavisEnderby · 13/11/2009 10:39

My washing machine must be a bastard, then.Nothing ever comes out crease free after its spin cycle.(Mutters darkly at said machine)

mollyroger · 13/11/2009 10:39

I don't use tumble drier - tis too expensive.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:40

I must have the same washing machine as you Mavis

I iron and am constantly amazed on mn how many people don't.

And freshly washed and ironed bedding is lovely.

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:40

take washing out of machine as soon as wash is done.

shake each item really well.

hang.

tumble dryer for 20 mins.

fold straight away.

put in wardrobe.

no ironing involved and i am not lazy.

i do iron bedsheets though because they feel nice when you get in.

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 13/11/2009 10:41

I don't iron (dp does his own - he likes it ). And yes, I do look like a scruffbag

Bensmum76 · 13/11/2009 10:41

I don't iron, never have, never will. I dry any shirts on hangers so the creases 'fall out'. Its never been a task I've wanted to do so don't!!!! :O

GhoulsAreLoud · 13/11/2009 10:42

I don't iron.

I don't tumble dry.

I don't wear fleeces.

I usually wear something like Jeans, a vest and a cardigan.

I would never iron those things.

If I was wearing a dress or a shirt I would iron it, but if the shirt was going under a jumper I'd only iron the collar.

GhoulsAreLoud · 13/11/2009 10:43

Surely if tumble driers are bad for the environment then so is ironing everything versus not ironing or tumble drying.

Bonsoir · 13/11/2009 10:43

My sheets and duvet covers go in the tumble drier until they are very hot and steamy, and are then laid flat to dry - I don't iron them, but they look great.

All clothes that would look best ironed get ironed in this household (though not necessarily by me).

lucykate · 13/11/2009 10:44

there are 5 beds in our house, life is just too short to be spending that much time ironing all those bed sheets. plus ds has just had his first bout of threadworms = sheets all being washed every day!

paisleyleaf · 13/11/2009 10:44

I'd never ironed til now that DD's started school. I'd thought those little polo shirts wouldn't need ironing - but I can't get away with it. But they are all I do. DH does his own shirts as and when he needs one.
Bedding comes in off the line lovely,
I think I probably mostly wear jersey material.

porcamiseria · 13/11/2009 10:46

I only ever iron shirts (3 times PA) everything else dries OK , we are not that scruffy!

cant beleive people iron bedding!!!!

emsyj · 13/11/2009 10:47

I have a washing line, but doesn't work terribly well when it is raining... or in winter when it's freezing cold/snowing/hailing etc. Only use the tumble drier when it's not possible to dry outside, as stuff dried outside always smells much fresher. And DH is tight and doesn't want to pay the electric.

lolapoppins · 13/11/2009 10:48

we don't even own an iron.

I don't really wear anything that needs ironing. ds has no school uniform and dh wears a suit jacket over his shirts, so if they are a bit crumpled, no one can see. He tumble dries them though, so they are usually fine, but if he wanted them perfect, he could go and buy an iron for himself.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:49

Bedding is less important that clothes

You iron your bedding but you dont iron your clothes, weird

OP posts:
Uriel · 13/11/2009 10:50

Make sure you don't overfill the washing machine or you're guaranteed to get creased clothes out of it.

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 10:50

It's not about who should do the ironing, im sure all your DH can iron their own clothes

I only iron for me and ds2 (cos hes 3) i wouldnt go out in crumpled clothes
