to think that people claiming that BNP voters aren't racists are being disingenuous?

I don't get the argument "that these people aren't racist, but they vote just BNP".

For me, If you vote BNP, you are a racist. I know this is guilt by association but I think it's fair. What's more, making excuses for those who choose to support these hatemongers makes it more acceptable for them to do so.

I know I wouldn't vote for a party when I didn't know their policies and if I did, I'd feel pretty ashamed that I voted without bothering to find out. To be honest, anyone who votes for the BNP and claims that didn't realise they'd just cosied up to facists needs to give up voting for good.

It is obviously ok to cherry pick certain aspects of a democracy(like freedom of speech) while imposing the very reverse on another section of society

starkadder · 29/10/2009 20:01

only read about the first page of this but wanted to make a few points (!) -

  1. why does everyone say the UK system should be "more like Australia"? Where did this come from? FWIW, the UK system IS very similar to the Australian system, in that migrants must score points in various categories to be granted permission to enter.

  2. Short term migrants benefit a country greatly, both by bringing expertise that we don't have but also, in the case of the famous "Poles undercutting British workers" because they arrive, work hard, pay loads of tax and NI, and then leave before they have a chance to need a pension/extensive hospital care.

  3. People who vote BNP ARE racist....

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 20:04

bc;

why don't you comment on harpys excellent post @ 19.32

bodycolder · 29/10/2009 20:07

I didn't realise you were telling us which posts to comment on now too! Anyway if you think its excellent I know it is likely to be crap

monkeysmama · 29/10/2009 20:14

What part of it? Yes, there is mass disaffection with the Labour Party. There are lots of reasons people vote for the BNP. History shows us in periods like this smaller groups often profit from the anger with mainstream parties.

I too was and am against the war and indeed joined some of the bereaved families of service people killed in Iraq and Afghanistan on Saturday marching to parliament to call for our troops to be brought home.

The fact does not change that the BNP are a racist Nazi party.

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/10/2009 20:28

DP - political parties are legal by virtue of the way they are established. A bit like a company sets itself up. Being generous, I would say that the BNP has done this (although recent events illustrate that they actually haven't achieved this - hence their scrabbling to say that they will allow non-whites to join their party).

But the views and values that they hold are not always enshrined or articulated explicitly in their constitution.

It is very clear that the BNP, whilst holding a legal constitution, have views that are clearly not legal.

The very fact that they state their views about 'white British people', as in my c+p earlier demonstrates this. And that was copied from the opening paragraphs of their website.

I am not trying antagonise you with this post. I am answering your question with a genuine answer, to try and point out to you how they can be both legal and simultaneously racist.

Please consider this (as well as the thread that was linked to earlier) before you cast your vote for the BNP.

Use any other means at your disposal to register your concerns about immigration policy. But please don't vote for this racist party.

If, after all that is written here, you still decide to vote for them, then I am afraid you will be - as far as I am concerned - tarred with the same racist brush. And I find that very difficult to deal with. I honestly don't know what I will say to you if/when we next meet. And that makes me very because I have very much enjoyed meeting you previously.

HydeTheCock · 29/10/2009 20:50

The BNP are full of nasty, narrow minded, cowardly, racists.

If I discovered that any member of lets say the Labour party held these views I would expect them to be sacked straight away. If they weren't I would withold my vote. I couldn't care less if every other policy the labour party held matched my ideal world to a T. To vote for them would saying that it was OK to hold racist views.

So for anyone to say that they are voting for the BNP because they agree with some of there policies but they are not racist, just doesn't cut it with me. In fact I would go as far to say it is bollocks.

The BNP have balls I will give them that, anyone voting for them and then arguing they are not racist are just pathetic cowards who can't even admit publicly how they truely feel.

I have 3 mixed race children who have suffered racial abuse at the hands of the BNP, including myslef being called a traitor to my race. If the BNP gained power (ha) my children would either lose there father as he would be re-partriated (translate - go back to where you came from) or we would all have to leave to avoid the abuse and misery that would follow.

Voting BNP is as good as holding a membership to the Klu Klux Klan (you know that no violent organisation) and any intelligent person doing so deserves to be ashamed of themselves.

bodycolder · 29/10/2009 20:54

Hyde 'any intelligent person'seems to be the real issue here

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 20:59

BIWI....you are, and always will be, one of the nicest people i have ever met...

whatever happens from here....i will always be glad i met you....

i'm useless with words.....think what i'm trying to say is...

i'm listening to you...

GrimmaTheNome · 29/10/2009 21:00

'A traitor to my race'

Doesn't the silly man know that inbreeding is a bad thing? Hasn't he heard of 'hybrid vigour?' We're not Kennel Club dog breeds FGS.

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/10/2009 21:03

But glad ....

listen away, please.

Lizzylou · 29/10/2009 21:08

DP, did you read the other thread?
Do you think that strange people knocking on doors and being abusive to people because they have mixed race children is a good thing?
Because I believe this sort of thing will happen more and more, this is the truth of the BNP. They are playing on peoples fears and grudges and utting out a more "acceptable" facade, but their core is racism and hatred.
Cleansing FFS !!!
If you won't listen to anyone else, listen to BIWI, but please, don't let them get any more of a footing.

daftpunk · 29/10/2009 21:24

yes lizzy, i did read it...and of course that behaviour is wrong...

it's true, i will only listen to a few people....as soon as someone starts attacking me i just shut down...i hear them but i'm not listening...i lose all respect for them and what they are saying..

anyway...i'm off to read back over this thread.....will be gone some time....

take care lizzy .....

chegirlknowswhereyoulive · 29/10/2009 21:26

16 pages so far. Not bad. You are getting an awful lot of attention DP.

electra · 29/10/2009 22:22

'They are playing on peoples fears and grudges'

exactly

electra · 29/10/2009 23:30

Ok, for those of you who think BNP policies are more nationalist than about skin colour - I urge you to look at this;

interesting

chickydee · 30/10/2009 08:52

Just shows how sad and desperate and very scared people are when they are so narrow minded and small they resort to calling people "nazi's".
DP i'm with you on this issue, I couldn't give a shit WHAT people say to me, I want this country back, for the people who make it great, not the illegal immigrants who force their way in, then push us all to the back of the queues in every area.
I couldn't give a shit about colour,I respect all people AS LONG AS THEY ARE HERE LEGALLY AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE RUNNING IF THIS COUNTRY.
My local council has recently scrapped meals on wheels for pensioners and has also cocked up the care system so old folks are being got up at some stupid time, whenever the carere gets there, and then being left all day until the next carere gets there. I know of one dear man who one day was got up at 7.30, and then put to bed at 4!!! Crazy, yet the money the council would have spent on this has been spent regenerating the town square, with a bloody fountian that costs £52 grand a year to maintain. This is the sort of LOCAL politics the BNP would sort out, they would work for the people who have worked for us.

"they're rascists, every one who votes BNP is rascists, blah blah blah"

Change the fuckin record. Its boring.

chickydee....

totally agree with you.....white people have had enough...but if they dare speak out they are verbally attacked....

i read back over this thread last night...

can't believe some of the abuse being thrown at me....

but that's ok...because i'm white.

electra · 30/10/2009 09:33

daftpunk - that is an offensive post

shame on you

electra · 30/10/2009 09:34

Do not lump me in with your way of thinking either

daftpunk · 30/10/2009 09:38

a bit rich coming from you...you have hardly been sweetness & light with me...

but i'm afraid that is how people think....if i'm white and say anything i'm a racist....and will get abuse

am i wrong..?

electra · 30/10/2009 09:41

TSH - whatever the reasons are for voting for the BNP, if a person does this then they are obviously accepting of their racist politics. That is self-evident.

scarletlilybug · 30/10/2009 09:54

Some people who vote BNP are racist and vote for the party because of its racist agends.

Others who vote for the BNP are not racist and vote for the party in spite of its racist agenda.

Banging on and on about racism isn't likely to change the minds of either of these groups, IMO.

What might change their minds is talking openly and rationally about the issues that the BNP appears to address.

The constant cries of "racist" shut down most discussion before it has even begun.

Rational argument is impossible when people present perceptions and opinions as fact. (I have seen this from both "sides").
